Ethan L.
I recently got in a few blood parrots from Aqua Huna. They have always been my wife’s favorite fish and we thought it would be fun to have a few. The only problem is... these guys are super shy, like barely get food because they’re too busy hiding. I have seen them eat so I know they’re willing but they are just too busy being skittish. I have a few optimal hiding spots (and they take full advantage) to make sure they’re comfortable. It’s a planted 55 gallon with a black background and driftwood/rock hiding spots (good enough that you can’t even see a fin when they hide). Anyone have experience getting blood parrots to warm up to them? So far I’ve been sitting in front of the tank and being still for about an hour a day so they get used to me... just looking for more ideas. They do a good job, the parrots will come out with them sometimes but not frequently.

Ethan L.
I have a 5 gallon with a bright light directly across the room. Maybe I’ll see if blocking that light will have an effect! Thanks for the idea.
H.K.Luterman
When they are young they are notoriously skittish. It will take some time before they grow more confident. In the mean time, you can try training them to take frozen blood worms from your hand. Simply feed them the blood worms for a few days so they grow to love it, and then start only introducing it to the tank in your hand. It will take patience but eventually they'll get it. I taught mine to go through a hoop to get over her shyness. XD She still gets timid if I approach the tank too quick, but completely forgets to be scared at feeding time.
Ethan L.
That’s pretty awesome. I’ve been feeding bloodworms, so I might start hand feeding (or at least trying) soon.
