We used to have a garden center on the island that sold them, but they’re out of business so I’m trying to take good care of this one. Daniel
My patches of coneflowers are starting to come on. The milkweeds in the middle distance are doing well also. 3
Patrick_G
@Daniel is that all Echinacea or some other variety of coneflower? It looks spectacular! I think I’m going to try and start a patch like this for next year.

Plutoids Mom
My garden is having a bad year. My current highlights are the Lucifer Crocosmia, which is marginally hardy here. Not only is it repeatedly surviving winter, but the clump has also gotten huge. @Daniel That is my only thriving coneflower this year. Extremely jealous of your patch. 😄 Then, the Rudbeckia maxima is another high point, which just keeps getting more impressive every year. It is supposed to be surrounded by tall phlox, so it looks like a bit of a lone soldier. I foresee a garden redo coming next year. Lastly, I can always count on my butterfly weed to look nice. I'm trying Plains Oval sedge around it to fill in some gaps. So far, pleased with it.
Patrick_G
@Plutoids Mom, Crocosmia Lucifer is a staple around my area and always grows well. Other varieties can be finicky. Yours looks great!

Guppysnail
Herb garden this year has lavender, parsely, basil oregano and hubby’s jalapeño. Tomato’s doing great bell peppers good but not as quick as last year. He finished his garden we are done looking like a crop circle. I can’t wait for it to grow in next year.
eatyourpeas
A big 😍 to all the beautiful gardens! I do not have enough emojis to put one in each post, so it is a blanket WOW! Here is one of the water lilies; the pond went nuts after the heat wave and there are lots of buds. 4

PineSong
So many beautiful gardens--looks like there's a lot of overlap between fishkeepers and plantkeepers. Here's one of my "tubs"--I may put fish in one of these whiskey barrels one day, but for now, pretty 1

JettsPapa
I just now ran across this discussion. I spend quite a bit of time out in my yard, but could only find these two pictures on my phone. I'll try to take more and post again. The first one is from last year showing a stand on a little platform I built in the corner of our front yard. There was some kind of succulent near the bottom center, but everything else was yellow lantana and Gerbera daisies. The Gerberas are usually perennial here, but that week of sub-freezing temperatures we had in February, with one morning getting down to 4°, was too much for them. The second one is of a clump of blue daze ( Evolvulus nuttallianus), also from last year. I really like blue flowers, but there aren't a lot that can take our heat. That one and Ceratostigma plumbaginoides are some of my favorites.
Patrick_G
@JettsPapa, there are some nice blue Salvias that you could try. Something like Russian Sage next to some Orange Day Lilies is a classic water wise combo.
