dalewebb
I had to shut off my external canister filter (with activated carbon) for a few days while I treated for ich. When the treatment is over ( a week or so) can i just turn it back on or should I clean it out first.
Gator
How big is your tank and what type of fish do you have?
Gator
While your filter is shut down, remove the activated carbon and replace it with more filter foam to grow even more beneficial bacteria, you don't need activated carbon. Raise your water temp to between 81 and 83 degrees and you will never again have ich in your tank, ich can't survive temps above 80 degrees. Also, without the activated carbon, if you ever need to treat for parasites, you don't need to shut off your filtration.
