Louise white
@Cory my betta fish arrived yesterday and it seems like his ventral fin is damaged . It looks like it’s stuck sticking out. This is my first betta fish , is there anything I can do ? Edited May 7, 2021 by Louise white
Daedalus
Can you get better pics? And do you have pics of the fish from the seller? Normally when I breed bettas and they get their fins ripped and chewed I just use salt and within 5-7 days they'll grow back.
Louise white
I can get better pictures tomorrow . There is a picture of just A black orchid not the actual one I ordered unfortunately. Will they usually hold them out like that when they are damaged ? It does look a lot thinner than the other one. Could I add something other than salt as I have a planted tank . I have already added almond leaves to help a little
Daedalus
Take this for what it's worth but if I were in your position and dont want to use salt I would just leave the fish alone to heal up. Personally I've never had any problems with salt and plants but I don't run big tanks, I'm not sure what size you have him in right now and what plants and how dense your planting. There's a lot of variables
Louise white
Okay thank you for the honest advice. Maybe I will keep lights off for a couple days feed him up and let him relax a bit and see how he does if not , try salt. Thank you !
FlyingGuppies
Hey idk if you’d consider using some erthromycin? It’s safe for plants! “Maracyn's active ingredient is an antibiotic called erythromycin. It provides relief from bacterial infections such as body fungus, gill disease, fin rot and popeye in freshwater aquariums.“ https://www.aquariumcoop.com/collections/fish-medicine/products/mardel-maracyn
FrozenFins
Sometimes fish are born with defects such as these, I wouldnt use any medications. Maracyn wouldnt help as it treats for bacterial/ fungal infections, and the fish has neither. I would leave the salt alone once again probably wont do anything. I've had some horrific experiances with salt. Is something that occured overnight? Or something that you got him with?
Louise white
@James Black i think he arrived with it I couldn’t tell too much the first day as I had all the lights off and he was hiding. Do you think if it is a defect it’s uncomfortable for him ?
