Xenotoca Doadrioi Fry

Got a starter group of 8x Redtail Goodeids (Xenotoca Doadrioi) from a Goodeid specialist in our Fish club last December.

6x fry dropped within a month or two. Just recently, another batch of ca. 11x fry have dropped. Colony is starting to groove!

These guys are CARES species, endangered in the wild. They’re cold water Livebearers. Most food we feed  consists of plant matter (Bug Bites Spirulina flakes, Omega One Kelp flakes). But with fry, we add baby brine shrimp to their diet every few days.

Definitely not a “show tank” — we throw random cuttings in here — but these are some happy Goodeids!

Thanks for sharing the vid!  I like Goodeids in general and Xenotoca doadrioi are particularly nice.  I wouldn't mind a little colony of Xenotoca eiseni some day.

Here is Greg Sage's write-up from Select Aquatics. He used to sell the San Marcos X. doadrioi, but may currently be low on stock. I've not seen him list them recently.

Our stock originated from Etzatlan, Ameca / Magdelana basin. Original Goodeids obtained at the 2014 American Livebearer Assoc. convention. They were part of a group imported by the North American Goodeid Working Group for the convention. Not sure what generation they are by now. Etzatlan and San Marcos may be two different, but close collecting sites.

Thanks for the information!  I do know Select Aquatics.  I find sourcing the fish I want to often be far less challenging than finding space for them and properly housing them.  Turns out my desires far outstrip my space, time, and resources.  I'm sure it's just a problem I have.  😉
