Chandra
I wanted to try a canister filter for 20g inside my room. I got an eheim 2211 deal and got to try. Any suggestions on setting up the canister filter media? People using canister filters, How do you handle power failures?
pedrofisk
That's a good one as you can really customize what you use. I would probably just use sponge on the bottom and filter floss on the top. I run a bigger Eheim classic on my 55 and I've never had any issues with power outages. Paul
I have an Ehiem Pro 3 on my 120. It’s been running pretty much non stop, except for cleaning and an impeller replacement for 4 yrs. I’ve at various times used Purigen, crushed coral, and extra polishing pads. You have some flexibility. During hurricane Florence we lost power for a couple of days. I used a rechargeable battery pack to run it until I could hook it up to the generator.
Mr. Ed's Aquatics
For that small a unit, I would put coarse sponge on the bottom, medium or fine sponge above that. On top of the sponges, go with filter floss. The remaining room either bio media like ceramic rings or chemical filtration like purigen or carbon. For power outages, just have the filter resting in an empty plastic tote. If it back flows, the tote will catch it. Once there's a bit of water in it, you can hear it splashing. Streetwise
I keep giving the advice to keep canisters in tubs, totes, or buckets. I’m glad to hear more people saying the same thing. Even if you don’t have a bad event, you’ll still make life easier when servicing them.
Ben Ellison
I hear a lot of people asking about power failure and cannisters. Is a computer ups/battery back up an option with this guy's? I saw some one not to long ago talking about their plan for when the power goes out for long periods of time. They talked about keeping tanks warm and I wondered then if a good pc battery wouldn't run heaters for a long while since they don't constantly run and their draw has to be much lower than a pc.
