Colu
From what you describe it's probably a bladder snail
Daniel
Likely a bladder snail.

FlyingFishKeeper
Agreed with everyone else, although it could also be a pond snail. (Depends on how the shell "spirals")
H.K.Luterman
Easiest way to tell the difference is that bladder snails have thin feelers and pond snails have little triangle nubbins.
Hobbit
Ohh I just realized I totally had bladder snails and not pond snails when I first set up my tank. Now I know!
Harpsandfish
Oh! And I just realized I don’t have pond snails. They don’t have a spiral end like that - they have a coil, so rams horn, I guess?

They're not the prettiest of snails, but they're good little workers.
Pete
No they aren't bad. They're pretty helpful. They'll eat algae and stray food particles that get down in the substrate. Some people don't like them from an aesthetics standpoint. The only downside is when I gravel vac sometimes I suck one up and it kills the siphon because the shell gets stuck so I've gotta restart suction. It's no big deal.
