What effect would increasing brightness and reducing time on have for plants and algae? I have a Plant 3.0 that I keep on about 12 hours a day. I have it ramp up slowly and down slowly to start/end the day. It is on at the highest brightness (40%) for about 10 hours. How would the plant and algae growth be affected if I were to have it on for less time (6-8 hours?) but brighter? Plants are: Jungle Val Dwarf Sagiterius Anubis's Nana Anubias Nana Petite Java fern Water Sprite Staurogyne Repens Monte Carlo (hoping soon) My tank is a 40 breeder so it is only 16" tall.

Hi all, I have a high tech (decent light, decent soil, ferts, co2) planted tank and i just can't seem to get my ludwigia (ovalis) to grow the way i see it in pictures. Every time I prune it, it shoots 1-2 new sparsely-leaved stalks directly to the surface and grows horizontally from there. So I end up with nothing but diagonal stalks i most of my tank, and a bunch of lovely red/yellow leaves in the top 5% of the water which I can't see due to my aquarium rim. 😄 Is there a secret tip to trimming ludwigia to train it to stop shooting to the surface? Or do you think this behavior is specifically due to my light setup? I have a pretty good light (lifegard aquatics 20W) so I assume i'm just trimming it wrong. I attached a photo of some of the shoots and a screenshot of my attempt at calculating my PAR. I love the ACO community and hope to hear from y'all soon. 🙂

I have a relatively well planted 55g tank with a Fluval 3.0 48inch 59 watt light and no CO2 at the moment but using easy green and root tabs for a few of my plants. Thinking about adding CO2 at some point, but that's a question for another time. I'm looking to add some carpeting plants up front and was curious if the Fluval would have the PAR needed at the substrate level to grow something like dwarf hair grass, monte carlo or helanthium tenellum. The follow up question would be if its not strong enough, what additional light could i add to help me achieve the light needed? Appreciate any help you can provide.
