So i found this guy at the cone feeder today. I believe its a lack of pigment but only on the mid flank both sides. Pie-bald ish. There are a few with this higher pink / less pattern that have shown in this F1 batch. They eat and have grown similar to siblings so far. Could be a weird phase or fatal mutation but it looked to neat to not share.

Since we are well on the way to having plenty of puffers up here I have decided to explore genetics by starting to focus on discovering and developing desireable morphs should any naturally occur in F1 batches of my pao cf palustris fry. Has anyone gone down the rabbit hole in developing a parallel morph strain of a species for some desireable trait? What did you learn? What were the end results? I did make a cool platy strain way way back as a 12 year old. This idea seems to be a fun one to work on even if it only teaches me more about the puffers and never ends up with a result it will still keep the project interesting for me.

The Pao palustris fry , which are going strong are still just living in a Ziss breeder box in the colony tank 75 gallons. Photo is day 9, this morning, eating live bby brine the orange flecks are brine shrimp for size perspective. What is everyones view on when is the right time to move them from the Ziss breeder box to a grow out tank in the rack system? Once they start getting territorial ? Once i find more fry? ....?
