  1. I'm looking for a cool gift for a young girl, 10 years old, who is pretty into nature. She has a 55-gallon tank in her fish with fish she caught herself, a paludarium with a gecko, and a few tanks with turtles. She loves to collect insects. I was thinking maybe a cool, information book...I don't know. Looking to spend $10-20 (there are a lot of kids to buy for...but she's the only one who is super into nature, like I am). Any suggestions from the crowd?
  2. Any advice on some ways I can make fish room more kid friendly? I have 3 grandchildren and when I have them all in there it’s a little crazy, and by a little I mean a lot 😜. My electric cords and hoses are already tucked really well. How could I install some sort or latch on the lower lids? Having them help feed is such a mess. Of coarse they love tapping on the glass and by tapping I mean banging. It sucks trying to take them in 1 at a time because the others really really need to be in there.lol
  3. So I was wondering why my 2 year old was being so quiet when he's only quiet while sleeping. I found him at my wife's desk where I keep my 10 gallon baby fry/blue velvet tank and he had dumped multiple pieces of notepad papers, separated and dumped multiple sharpies and pens, my wife's cordless mouse and pad. Some of the sharpies were glitter sharpies and let's just say i freaked out. The water is extremely glittery, sharpies and pens are starting to leach. I really hope that I can save the majority of shrimp and fry. I will update tomorrow when I have calmed down and found a home for any and all survivors.
  4. I've been playing around with the idea of doing an outdoor pond tub and moving some livebearers or white clouds out there, but the thing that's holding me back is having a three year old. Has anyone done these outdoor containers with little kids? What kinds of safety measures did you figure out? My first idea was to use an extra 300 gallon stock tanks that's sitting around at the farm. Then I quickly decided that would be a TERRIBLE choice given the human fry around here! 🙂 Maybe I'll snag it when they can all swim in a couple years. The older two swim like...well...fish. Other sizes/shallow options that would be safer?
  5. My daughter has accepted her scholarship offering and will be attending the University of Vermont in the fall to study Biochemistry!! It has been a long process of applying and waiting, and we are just so excited to finally be at this point. Anyone here attend UVM? I've been to Burlington many times, it's such a great little city! Excited to have an excuse to keep visiting! I'm a proud Mama Bear! Thanks for letting me share the news! 🎉
  6. Hey all, I have 3 boys of 6, 3, and 1 year of age. Obviously I want to share the hobby with them. Do you have any good books that I can get (maybe on kindle) that I can use to share with them? Thanks, Derek
  7. My son loves to draw and I came home to this today. Here's his free hand of Murphy @Cory
