  1. I've never raised shrimp before! January 4th, I added 10 yellow neocaridina shrimp that I bought at my very reputable LFS. I paid $100 for the shrimp (expensive, I know) and "where the heck are they"? The morning after, I kept looking for them everywhere, especially in and under the crypt forest. At one point on day of arrival, I counted 7, but the next morning, I could only find 2 to 4 at different points during the day. I found 1 dead body and 2 molted skins. I called the store to inquire; she asked was I finding dead bodies?!! I told her I found one. She said they must be hiding in my plants, then. OK, hiding, huh. Well.... it can't be that hard to see bright yellow shrimp on green plants and reddish substrate. I have a clear view under the crypts, and I may see 2 or 3. I've looked EVERYWHERE (today is Jan 7th) and cannot find more than 3 or 4 at a time. Where are my beautiful, $100 shrimp? This is seriously discouraging 😞 to me. I'm hoping some shrimp enthusiasts will chime in here. I had visions of these lovely shrimp frolicking around my tank, adding a splash of color.
  2. Are there any unique ways I can give my betta sources of enrichment? He doesn’t really interact with his environment other than swimming along the glass walls and I can’t help but feel like I’m doing something wrong. He has a coconut hide and a terra cotta tunnel but in the 2 months I’ve had him I haven’t seen him use either. My initial plan was to have 2-3 hides and an abundance of plants but I’m struggling to get my plants to grow and stay healthy. Also how much and how often do I feed my betta fish certain foods? I got him frozen bloodworms, freeze dried bloodworms, fluval bug bites, and ocean nutrition pellets. I give him 10 pellets every day but he still seems hungry as he swims to the front of the tank when I walk by, and is constantly looking for snails thinking they’re food. Once a week I give him the frozen and freeze dried bloodworms and some fluval bug bites, I’d say about 5 or so “pieces” of each. How much should I be feeding those foods and how often? Thanks
  3. I put 2 Mystery Snails in my 80 gallon yesterday, they are a bright yellow or gold color about the size of a quarter. Today they are nowhere in sight, my plants are not that thick and I have looked over and under the decorations in the tank. I opened the HOB filter and did not find them there either. So any idea how they can hide, do they bury them self in the substrate??
  4. Hi everyone, I've had my striped raphael catfish for almost 10 years now and he has always picked a really cramped hiding place in the aquarium. Its one of those artificial bell decorations, and he has to curl up inside just to fit his body in there. I'd like to get him a better spot to hide where he doesn't have to contort his body so much. I removed the decoration and put the fish into my 20 gallon quarantine tank for the meantime, since without a place to hide, he gets bullied by my synodontis eupterus, whom he's been tankmates with for 9 years. What recommendations for hiding spots, or even just scapes for that matter, do y'all have? (Thumbnail is the fish in the quarantine tank)
