So my literal favorite fish died (I even made sure to never mention he was my favorite). I think it was a PH swing. The female survived and I was super bummed... not only because I would have to purchase another pair which are expensive.. but he really was a supermodel. He looked better than the male In the picture I attached. Yesterday morning I came home from work to find her herding about 30 fry! He shall live on!!!- 3 replies

I had this betta, Cloud who I kept in a 3.5 gallon who died Sunday. It was of old age we think but I also suspect something else to contribute to this. He had a lump near the end of his body meeting the tail fin. It was never there before, he also swam in an odd pattern, like a snake almost. He became EXTREMLEY lethargic and did not eat. He was white so I couldn't tell if he had fin rot, ick, or discoloration or color loss. Any ideas? -
Hello Im new to keeping shrimp and a few of my first neocaridina shrimp (red rili) have died.... But strangley the 2 crystal red caridina shrimp I had in the tank before the red rilis are still alive? I thought the crystal reds were dead because I didn't see them for a few days. I know my water is hard, and I tried to soften it with RO water while I still saw the crystal reds. The crystal reds aren't dead, and are still alive after 2 weeks. 2 days ago I got 5 red rilis, they were added to the same tank as the crystal reds. I didn't... Drip acclimate the red rilis 😞 I did drip acclimate the crystal reds. The red rilis were floated in the bag for over 30 minutes. I found 2 red rilis dead one with the head torn off... definitely a failed molt. The other one still in it's shell. Can anyone help tell me why they died? I thought neocaridina liked harder water. I didn't do a water change since adding the shrimp, I did top off the tank a little with dechlorinated tap. The last things I did to this tank beforw I saw these dead shrimp were, in this order from most recent: added 6 pellets of hikari shrimp cuisine, moved decorations around in the tank making the water very cloudy, removed entire plants that were doing poorly, added new plants from my established tank. Then the day before I also added 4 drops of easy green. Days before the red rili shrimp were added, I dropped in 2 casuarina cones. Did they die because I didn't drip acclimate? Or is my water not suitable for neocardina? Should I add API pH up? Water parameters from what I can see, i used the aquarium co op test strips. Ammonia 0 Nirate 0 or 10ppm... I can't tell Nirate 0 Hardness 150ppm Kh 0 Ph 6.4 on test strips. Ph 6.8 with API liquid test solutions. Chlorine 0 4.5 gallon tank. It has uns substrate and inert gravel. Tank mates are 2 kuhli loaches and 5 celestial pearl Danios. (I know that's a lot :(... Please don't be mean about it)- 13 replies

I have this angelfish with some kind of parasitic infection. I think it could be hextemia from the small signs of hole in the head. Right now hes lying on his side at the bottom of the tank. Hes progressing quite fast, yesterday he was swimming just fine and now idk if i has the strength to swim. I moved him to my hospital tank where i was going to start treatment. The only parasitic infection treatment availble to me (live in Canada) is the fritz mardel parashield. Its quite expenive $30CAD. I dont want to spend the money if it wont work, do you think its too late? Do you think he'll die? Im surprised he survived the night😪. -
My orange dwarf mexicain crayfish passed away today du to a bad molt. I am sad - I had his parents so I raised him since he was a tiny little thing. All the memories I have... I saw him terrorize him siblings until they all died, I saw him try to eat his dad when he passed from old age... 😲 Peaceful, they say... 😬 S.I.P. My little terror. -

Hi all, I am having an issue with my shrimp. I have a 60 gallon, well established aquarium (over a year.) It contains guppies, pencilfish, corys, and cloud minnows. They all seem to be doing OK. For inverts, I have 2 bamboo shrimp, cherry shrimp, and assassin snails. Two weeks ago I had a thriving colony of neocaridinia cherry shrimp. See photo- they were all over the food, they were chowing down on the algae on the back of the tank, feeling happy. Yesterday, I went to scoop some out for a different tank and noticed they were hard to find. Today, my fears were confirmed when I looked in the filter- there's always a few that live in there, but this time it was just carnage, tons of dead cherries. I also noticed that my bamboo shrimp shed yesterday, but it has not opened its fans to eat. Just crawling around, not by the filter as usual. (See before and after pics.) I can't currently find the other one, but there are lots of plants. Only a few cherries alive. I want to say there might even be fewer assassin snails. The cories are also acting strangely. Usually shy and hiding, always on the bottom. They have been very active and sometimes swimming mid-tank, I actually thought it was mating behavior initially, but now I am worried it could be as symptom of something in the tank. Current tank parameters of this morning: ammonia 0, nitrate 0, nitrite 0, pH 7.8. Gh is 12, Kh 7, as of 8/5. No major changes to the tank that I can think of. 3 days ago I got a couple new plants from aquarium co op, I rinsed under water but did not quarantine. And about a week ago I got some mature bio filter out of the HOB for a different tank. None of that really seems like it should change anything. I lowered the temp 3 degrees (from 80 to 77) a few days ago but was careful to do so slowly to avoid shock. I have been dosing Flourish excel daily for the past 2 weeks per directions but will be cutting that out ASAP as sources are telling me it basically kills things. I also dose fluorish twice a week, which the plants gobble up greedily. I am worried perhaps there was a change in the water from the city? Like maybe added copper, since all the inverts are suffering? Unfortunately I don't have a copper test handy. Anyone know what might be going on? Should I turn the heat back up? This was a perfectly healthy, balanced tank just 2 weeks ago. 😕 I also keep magenta mystery snails in a different tank, use the same tap water, and they are all fine.
