Hello Forum, My Ivanacara bred for the first time about 36 hours ago. The dominant pair had 20 to 30 eggs in their cave. Mom stayed inside the cave with eggs. Dad was posted outside (at a safe distance from wifey!) chasing off all other fish. Over the course of yesterday their eggs were disappearing. Last night I counted fewer than 10 left and this morning zero and the pair are not guarding their cave like they were. Are they like Angels where they have to learn to take care of their eggs? Anyone know if this species is known for egg eating? Any other advice? I'm really not upset that their eggs are gone in that I am not really in a place to care for fry at the moment.

I have a 40 Breeder stocked with Rainbow Cichlids, and I'm having trouble finding a decent herbivore sinking pellet. I have Fluval Bug Bites bottom feeder formula, but it gets lost in the substrate. I was wondering if anyone knew of a spirulina sinking pellet that is about the size of a Cichlid Gold mini pellet (~3.0mm) - The Rainbow Cichlids are pretty shy atm, and the plants are still filling in. I expect this tank to be a stunner in about 2 months I also am aware of Omega One pellets, but they seem to be extremely difficult to get ahold of right now. The floating ones are readily available, but Rainbow Cichlids from what I've seen and heard from others don't eat from the surface. They might get hungry enough to, but I'd rather not have to stress them out to get them to eat

Hello all, I have an empty 60 gallon sitting around and I am thinking of getting it set up into a Central American cichlid tank if possible. I currently have a 150g South American community, a 60g Asiatic community and a 30g Lake Tanganyika community (micros). I know CA Cichlids are known for their tenacious aggression and breeding, I have had some in the past including firemouths, Honduran red points, salvinis and of course convicts. I know a 60g is not a large tank and it has a rather small footprint being a "Tall" tank. Am I limited to only getting away with the CA cichlids I have kept in the past, or is there a possibility of making a larger CA cichlid work in a 60g tank such as a, Texas, Carpinits, Jack Dempsey, Cuban, or a Nicaraguan? If so would it be a solitary tank, or could I get away with a breeder pair? Is there an option for a decent sized CA cichlid in a 60g with other smaller CA cichlids I've kept in the past or livebearers? I greatly appreciate any and all responses and shared knowledge and experience on this matter or any other suggestions of stocking species, Thank You!

Just what the title says. I'm new to cichlids so I don't really know what I should do, if anything. The blood parrot just laid eggs a few days ago, and allowed the acara to come in and out of the cave she spawned in, which I thought was odd. Then the acara started showing off for her, doing little flicking dances and staying close to her. Now they're lip locking. Will it resolve itself, and just keep an eye on them? Should I move him outright? I'm worried about him hurting her.

I'm going to be setting up a new tank for Cichlids, which I've never had. Can I take the filter material out my HOB from my regular community tank and put it in the new HOB of the new tank for the good bacteria? I know the PH levels are different for Cichlids, but I just wanted to make sure I am transferring the correct beneficial bacteria.
