With Christmas coming up I really want to get some books on the hobby. May that be aquascaping, plants, fish species ect. i'm interested in any kind of fresh water education. If anyone has recommendations for some good books to look into, I would really appreciate it ^^ -
So as im walking back to campus, I walked by a tiny book store filled with antique and thrifted books. I popped in to see if they had any vintage aquarium books or general fish books available. While they did not have any vintage fish books, they did have a book about conserving fish and how the aquarium hobby is both a positive and negative output on it. Im not going to get into specifics because who likes spoilers, but ive read a couple chapters and I can say it is pretty good. I am not an avid reader and this is probably the first time in a very very long time where I enjoyed a book that I picked out. So I'm wondering, does anybody have any book recommendations on fish that relate to their habitat, care, breeding, aquariums, whatever? I have a couple encyclopedias, this one, and the Walstad one is on the list. 9.5/10, only issue is the plural of 'fish' is spelt 'fishes' and I know either is correct but I'm not used to 'fishes' so I stutter when reading this simple word. Also, some parts seem to be written overly complexed. So while it makes perfect sense, it doesn't flow well off the tongue at the cost of looking sophisticated. Also it was a steal, 8$ when regular is 32$. Its practically brand new! Plus one more thing not wasted in a dump. -

Does anyone have good recommendations for books on aquariums and fish in general? I would love something that goes into different species of fish and general facts about them as well as any other resources for learning. thanks in advance, David -

I think something very similar is occurring today as we’re all far too plugged in and nearly hardwired online. -

I recently read Walstad's book and loved it, but I don't really have a good book on freshwater aquarium fish or plant species. I had one years ago, but I passed it one a long time ago. I'd love to find an up-to-date book or two (or three 😁) on freshwater fish and/or plants. Any suggestions? -

Because of space limitations, I've been keeping only 2 tanks - both 29g. I've wanted more and bigger tanks, but I have to wait until our living arrangements change. In the meantime, I've been considering setting up and aquascaping one of my empty 10g tanks as a cherry shrimp habitat. Same issue arose, though. Where to put it. Then I had an idea. If I pack a bunch of books and move out a bookcase, I can put a 10g (or two!) in the same space the bookshelf currently takes up. Considering I'm a writer AND an avid reader, bookshelves are sacrosanct, but shrimp would be worth putting books away for, I think. Where there's a will, there's a way, right?- 10 replies

Hey there! I'm new around here, and I am starting the research process for a first time tank. I'm excited, but I'm really nervous. I started with Freshwater Aquariums for Dummies, which essentially taught me all the ways I could kill a fish! After recovering from the shock, I hopped online and started poking around, and found a wonderful corner of YouTube full of fish keeping information! I don't have a ton of financial resources, so I want to smart small, and I look forward to reading and watching what folks around here do! -
I still like a traditional hard cover book with good photos. Any recommendations for aquarium books, fish guides, etc? I have bought a few so far including: - The Manual of Fish Health - Dr. Axelrod’s Mini Atlas (not yet delivered) - Encyclopedia of Aquarium & Pond Fish (also not yet delivered) Hate how long it takes used books to arrive, love the low risk of DOA. I am interested in learning more about guppies, goldfish, aquatic plants, aquascaping, and realistically anything else. Any classics or resources you swear by? -

I would like to get a book on Tropical fish that shows a variety of Freshwater fish with details about their natural habitat, habits, needs, acceptable tank mates, etc. Does anybody have any recommendations? -
Hi, I was watching LRB's video visit to the store on YouTube, noticed a bookshelf, and on the shelf is an interesting looking book or periodical, the title appears to be "Scaped" or similar. On the cover is a planted aquarium scene. Can anyone tell me what that might be? I could not find it in the online store. Thanks! -Dave -
