I'm re-building my 29gal aquarium. I have over 100 rcs. I've been attempting to catch all the shrimp and move them to my 10gal. My trap consists of a water bottle with the top cut off and turned inside out like a funnel, and a shrimp pellet inside for bait. I've managed to catch alot and move them, but my panda corys keep getting caught and the whole process has taken a week now with only about half the shrimp moved. Does anybody know a better way to do this?

Starting my 10 gallon Betta tank.. it’s been up and running for 5 days have added a betta conditioner 2 moss balls probably around 25% of water from my other thank added 3 live plants and have a sponge filter going. Looking to add my betta ....Was wondering if to add the betta first or the other company..... Was thinking a couple zebra snails some cherry shrimp or panda cory’s Thanks for your time

Hello everyone, My shrimp tank has been doing outstandingly since I set it up months ago and have a very active population of blue jelly shrimp and lots of snails, my question is can young female shrimp produce viable offspring or do they just produce non-fertilized eggs? I have only ever seen full grown adults produce eggs in pictures of other shrimp, but almost every female in my colony has eggs right now, even the young ones. I started this tank in October and a couple of the blue jellies came with eggs already, these are offspring from those adults. It seems to me that they would not be old enough to reproduce yet, maybe I am wrong though?

so I'm hoping to order some cherry shrimp on Sunday or later once the weather is supposed to be cool/warm and I was wondering if usps priority in north west Arkansas is safe right now? not sure if it matters but the store I'm ordering from is flip aquatics thanks 🙂

My little 10g is ready for some more life, but I'm down a research hole and need advice. I was originally planning for pea puffers, but I think I want just a colony of algae eaters for now, so I'm thinking cherry shrimp, Nerite snails and otos. My tank is currently in a major brown algae situation, so I'm thinking that will feed everyone for a bit, but what do I get to make them all happy long term? I have some banquet blocks coming tomorrow. I think my primary concern is the otos. Should I buy Repashy? What do you all think of it? It sounds kind of complex for this newbie. Maybe 6 otos? Or more because the bioload of the others is so minimal? And should I get Wonder Shell automatically? I know the banquet blocks have calcium in them. Should I wait until all the algae is gone? Will that be too late for the otos? I tend to over prepare for things so I'm spinning at the moment. My tank is heavily planted with more plants on the way.

I recently started this 10 gallon cherry shrimp tank back in October 2020. I was following the dosing instructions on the fertilizer bottle and getting a TON of algae growth. I taped up the lights to reduce lighting a bit and stopped dosing fertilizer for a few weeks and did hydrogen peroxide dips on a few of the badly effected plants. Most of the algae was gone but not all so I figured to add my 2 Otocinclus to the tank to fix up and maintain the remaining algae since they're considered shrimp safe. They appear to be shrimp safe as the shrimp don't appear bothered at all, especially because one comes to feed on the shrimp king complete food just about every time I feed them. I also added an algae wafer today and only shrimp are on it but the oto is on the shrimp food. Anyone else have any experience with this? Both Otocinclus seem more relaxed than they ever were in my 20 gallon with neons, a single guppy, and betta. The shrimp are breeding like crazy and by the end of the day there's no food left. I'm thinking this is a great arrangement but I want to make sure there's nothing too weird about it.

What does it mean when my berried neos eggs are turning white? It’s just happening to a couple of them so far. One has all white eggs. One has a mix of white and yellow. If the eggs are dying, would the shrimp drop them automatically or might she hold onto them/potentially get an infection...? This is my first time having berried shrimp (over 5 total so far!)

I have been treating this as fungus but i havent noticed any improvements. I started salt dips yesterday and have completed one treatment of erythromycin and am starting a second dose Ammonia:0 Nitrites:0 Nitrates: unsure Gh/Kh:don't have a test but i know i have hard water temp:76-78F PH:7.8 Any help is appreciated! (fine red line outlines the fungus due to it being hard to see against the biofilm on the driftwood)

Hi everybody, I am working on becoming a biology teacher (just finishing my associated of science now). I was thinking about running a breeding project in class to help get kids invested and to use as visual/tactile teaching examples (ecosystems, natural selection, anatomy, reproduction, etc.). My thought was to have the class chose what traits we are trying to breed for, selectively breed, and keep record of each generation to see how close to the "goal" we get by the end. I do not yet have experience breeding fish (about one year into the hobby) and was wondering is this possible? I was first thinking guppies but in looking found sources saying that female guppy reach sexual maturity at 3 months, this would mean only three generations in a school year which I am concerned would be not enough to notice change from parent generation (i was hoping for 5? maybe that would be enough?). Would three generations be enough? I saw some articles saying Nothobranchius furzeri reached sexual maturity in a few weeks but would you be able to selectively breed them for traits enough to see a different result? I love the life in biology and would hope to share some of that passion through this... it would also allow me to "play" with fish for work 🙂 I would likely try and run this at home before I start teaching to help work out the kinks. -Thanks

I'm looking to add either Bolivian Rams, Scarlet Badis, or Pygmy Gouramis to my well planted Community tank. I currently have mostly tetras and guppies. Will any of these eat all the Guppy Fry? I like to have some survive, so I don't want to get something that will hunt down every last one. Thanks ahead of time for sharing your experience with these species. Also, are any of these compatible with adult shrimp?

Hi Friends! I suddenly have what I think is brown algae all over everything in my new 10g tank, like overnight. Is there a cleanup crew I can get that would also survive if I get pea puffers? Should I let snails do the work and then just use them to feed the puffers? Thank you for the advice!

I've got a heavily planted 55G with 9 smaller cichlids 3 yellow labs, 3 Duboisi, and 3 bumblebee bee cichlids. And a bristle nose plecos. The fish live in harmony amongst each other and I was curious if a shrimp colony could survive or if anyone has ever had any luck. I know people pull of strange stuff all the time and I was considering dropping some in. I just bought like 30 fire red Neocaridins from LRB aquatics. I guess it will work or they will become fish food!

So i was keeping one blader snail in my 10 G shrimp tank but now its started to reproduce. Usually i dont have a problem with them but im afraid both might compete for food and calcium. what should i do? Also just a side question but anyone know a good snail or shrimp mate that can deal with green spot algae?

Hello, I currently have a 15 gallon tank with one male betta, three amano shrimp and some red cherry shrimp. It is planted with anubias and cryptocorynes. I also have an 8 gallon tank with one female betta and three amano shrimp. Planted also with anubias and cryptocorynes The two fish have never met, but I am considering trying to let them breed (with appropriate care) However I am wondering whether the shrimp (especially the amanos) would interfere with the breeding process? The fish and shrimp don't bother each other (except the male betta likes to eat the smallest cherry shrimp). The Amanos do like to swim up to the surface, especially when being fed, so i am wondering whether this could disturb the eggs in the bubble nest? I've never tried breeding fish in a tank that also has shrimp. Anyone have experience with these shrimp picking on the nest trying to eat the eggs? Thanks.

Has anyone tried feeding bee pollen to their neos before? Some things I’m wondering: How often do you feed? As a regular food or just as a treat? Is the bee pollen a good source of food for baby shrimp or is it more for adults? Do fish tend to go for it too or do they generally leave it alone?

I’ve got a 2.5 gallon bowl and I’m hoping to start a colony of blue shrimp in there. I thought the blue would stand out nicely against an all-white substrate, and I have really soft water. So, what do you think of a 100% crushed oyster shell substrate? Good idea? Bad idea? Ugly idea? XD

I'd love to add shrimp to my 46 gallon tank, but I'm worried that the current fish will either eat them or no leave them alone. Tetras (Neons, Black Skirt, Glow (Sorry to say), Platties, Siamese Algae Eaters, Danios, one 7" long Common Pleco, planted tank with Water Sprite, Cryptocorynes, Amazon Swords, Vallisneria, Hair Grass, etc. Would shrimp survive in my tank with those tank mates?

Hi there fellow fish lovers, I am new to the forum but not new to the scene (10+ years of fishkeeping). I just wanted to share a personal experience with you guys here, maybe some will find it helpfull. So I recently (half a year ago) did an experiment with combining kissing fish (Helostoma temminckii) with cherry shrimp (Neocaridina davidi).I really wanted shrimp (fell in love with their behaviour) but I did not want to get rid of my long time friends (have kissing fish for more than 4 years now) but I have read everywhere online that these do not mix well. Don't do it I read everywhere. However, knowing these fish for years now, I did not believe this piece of information to be true (never believe 100% of what you read online guys, follow your own experiences aswell). Because kissing fish are gentle giants, in nature they graze algae of rocks and even do filter feeding, they are not active hunters. So I bought 50 baby cherry shrimp with the idea that 99% would become expensive fish food for my kissing fish. The first two weeks or so, I did not see any of them, not a single one, even if I tried hard to look for them. Waste of money I thought... Do not go well with large kissing fish. Confirmed. Then about a month later I started seeing medium sized shrimp appear again. They survived! Not a few of them... But all. They just needed to adjust to their new environment and lose their stage fright. Now they come in all shapes, colours and sizes. Even a (rare?) golden one. I have seen baby shrimp literally touch the lips of kissing fish. But they won't go in. They are super fast and there is no intent for the kissing fish to snap at them. So there you have it, kissing fish and shrimp. Good combo if you ask me. I am now at a point that I am certain that even if they started hunting (which I have not observed so far) that the shrimp population would sustain itself. In fact, I am now thinking of getting a blue acara to remove some of the surplus shrimp (seeing way to much shrimp everywhere now!). I have added pictures of my kissing fish (the big one is called Eddy the Eagle), and the shrimp (spot the golden one). Kind regards, Josha

Hello, I have a 20H and I have been contemplating whether I should add fish to my tank or not. what's in my tank so far; 2 pink Ramshorn snails (plus who knows how many baby snails) 4 horned nerite snails bladder snails (hitch hiked off of plants) an assassin snail 7 cherry shrimp plants (hornwort, Val, amazon sword, japan, java moss, windelov java fern, dwarf hair grass, banana plant, 2 stem plants I don't know the name of) sponge filter, aquatop 50, amazon cheap plant light I am planning on adding about 10-15 more cherry shrimp to the tank. I have been considering adding some chili rasboras or(and) neon tetras to my tank, but I am concerned about possible aggression as the cherry shrimp are my favorite to watch. my water parameters are; ph. 7.2 gh. 161 kh. 71

I want to go and buy crystal red shrimp. I bought ghost shrimp as a tester to make sure they would be fine in my tank. And they have been perfectly fine. But just as a precaution i wanted the community's opinion. Since at my LFS they are 12$ each. My tank is kept at 82-84 degrees. Can they handle that heat?

Ive really been into shrimp lately and want to start a shrimp tank. What size tank should I do. I knkw a popular fishtuber who keeps shrimp in a 5.5g. But is it possible to go smaller. I plan on blue velvets ir cherry shrimp. Not to advanced of shrimp. I only want like 10 or so. What size is small yet large enouph for them. I'm sorry this was so long. Thank you
