I am wanting to make my own acrylic tank lids. So I'm seeking some advice. I'm thinking the thickness should be at least 1/8" and no more than 1/4". It needs to be easy to score and/or cut to fit the cut outs that I need. I've been looking at Home Depot and I'm not really finding anything within size and budget. A normal hood does not fit my equipment setup and my fish are very upset with me that I drop the hood on their heads several times a week, their heads hurt and they want me to stop doing this to them, LOL. So they and I would really appreciate any ideas that anyone has? Maybe another option could be that I could make additional cut outs in the existing hood so that they fit in the inner hood grooves. IDK.

Discovered this easy way to check progress on plecos w/ich and make sure they boost their immune system w/food. I've kept an island of floating driftwood in the pleco tank. During the ich outbreak I noticed the plecos with ich hanging out on it, all the time, presumably for current and O2. Only those with ich were on the island It's definitely making it easier to check their progress, instead of wondering/searching. Yesterday a piece of zucchini had floated up and I spied one of them munching on it so I decided to offer them something today. I figured I'd share this as an idea of how to determine who is sick, check progress, and perhaps spoil them a smidgen 😀 Not sure this will work for everyone but, it's worth a shot 😉

Hey Folks, I thought I'd share something I did to help keep me organized. I have been testing my water more regularly lately and found I had settled into a standard list of equipment. In order to protect the finish of my wood desk and keep things together I was using a plate from the kitchen. This worked but it wasn't the best for moving from the upstairs tank to the down stairs and vice versa. Also there wasn't much working room. I stopped by a local craft supply store today and found a plastic box designed to store 5x7 photographs: This was a nice size. It has room for my tubes, pipette, cell tray common test cards with room to spare. With the lid open there is even a nice place to put the caps of the test chemicals such that they won't leave a blue ring on the counter top! The thin profile also allows me to tuck this away when not in use. Happy fish keeping! 🐠
