  1. @Ken Burke I did in one of my replies (see above). I have bought supplies from them, I do communicate and I am making connections with the owner.
  2. I might start looking into it! Do you mean albinos?? They lay 200 at a time (at least 100 are fertile!). I started 3 weeks ago and have over 300 fry of all sizes now :D
  3. There are dead fish at the filters and laying around the tank, a friend just bought tetras from them and they had ick, today they had leopard pufferfish and one of the bodies was COMPLETELY sunken in. Bettas had some tumors and other obvious health issues (they are in mini tanks). It just doesn’t seem like they are paid much attention to. I know some of these things happen… but the fish just aren’t as cared for as I’d expect. Some of these things I’d expect him to remove from the tanks. This is EXTREMELY helpful!! Thank you!! They are aeneus 🙂 I wish we had a local fish club but there are none near me 😞 I have been going in every week, same time and day and the owner recognizes me and is opening up to me. He is a pretty closed off guy but I’m working on him lol.
  4. How would you go about this?? Are there tactful ways (questions to ask) to figuring this out?? I know this is a thing, but I listened to @Cory YouTube series on selling fish for profit and the easiest way to do this is being able to unload them on your LFS.
  5. I started breeding my albino corys for the first time three weeks ago and wanted to sell them to the only LFS near me; however, I keep going there every week and their freshwater fish are not in great shape. Should I still consider selling my fish to them?? I care about the fish I’m breeding and don’t want to knowingly sell them to someone who is going to neglect them or hurt them with anything going through their water system. The only other LFS’s are two hours away N.S.E.W. of me. Thoughts??
  6. Ruby is so much happier in the 29-gallon, planted tank! There is so much more for him to explore and do, which includes picking on the snails when they come out to eat 🙄 His favorite pellets have a longer way to sink so he has a lot of fun hunting for them in the open water. He spends most his time at the bottom around the plants or "pacing" back and forth along the substrate from one end of the tank to the other. I did a 25% water change yesterday but this morning I noticed the parameters were still not where they needed to be. They aren't dangerous but could be if I don't perform more water changes. I will perform a 50% water change today and see how long it takes till I need to do another one to keep things stable. My only qualm with the 50-foot python siphon is that I can only attach it to the outside hose and not my kitchen sink. The issue with this is that I cannot control the temperature that goes back into the tank so the temperature has to build back up and I don't want that to be a struggle for my fish...
  7. Entry #1 (29-Gallon Set-Up) | Entry #2 (Establishing My Tank) | Entry #3 (New Fish!) ----------------------------------- The 29-Gallon is finally cycled! 🥳 I know my biology/science teachers would be so proud at how far I have come in the world of... well... literal life! I loathed all of those classes from elementary school and on and yet HERE I AM collecting data, researching the nitrogen cycle, making hypotheses, testing water and making observations! It finally dawned on me that my other two tanks, the 5- and 10- gallons were consistently reading "0" for ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates while my 29-gallon had readings out-the-wahzoo. I decided this had to be the result of the substrate since I had high readings before I added hardscape. After watching Cory's video on ammonia spikes (embedded at the end) I decided my next course of action should be to perform daily 50% water changes until my nitrites were significantly lower and ammonia reached 0. *** Below is a video of the tool that saved my pregnant self a lot of time and strain, from having to carry buckets upon buckets to empty/refill my 29 gallon to letting a 50-foot hose do the work 😅 This tool allowed the process of daily 50% water changes to be a breeze. Below is the data I have been collecting since near the beginning on the 29-gallon using mostly test strips from ACO. I have circled the dates I used the API Master Test Kit. So, I decided it was time to introduce... Ruby, the betta who has been in the 5-gallon, and Sherlock and Watson, my two mystery snails (don't ask me who is who 😜) ... to the 29-gallon! *** Below is a video of the transition taking place 👏 If you missed my last journal entry, my poor corydoras couldn't handle the stress of the med trio and I couldn't remove it in time to save one of the little guys 😢 so five out of the six have survived isolation so far. The experience was a learning experience for me and has left me deciding to not medicate my new fish but isolate them and observe until/unless something apparent is wrong that I will then treat. Sherlock and Watson have done great and I, obviously, decided it was not necessary to isolate them further. The corydoras love their Hikari Tropical Sinking Wafers and decided to try frozen blood worms since Ruby rejects them. The end of April marks when I should be able to add my corydoras to the 29-gallon; however, I am going out of town at the end of April and I don't want my husband responsible for keeping up with the transition! 😬 So, the corydoras will stay in isolation until I return at the beginning of May when I can be home to monitor them closely 😉 ----------------------------------- Entry #4 Summary 29-gallon tank is cycled I purchased the 50-foot python siphon which has been a game-changer! I added my betta & two mystery snails to the 29-gallon Corydoras are still in isolation and are doing well! Disinfected & stored my 5-gallon (not sure when to use it again) -----------------------------------
  8. @H.K.Luterman where do you get your fish??? Just curious since we are both in Madison, wondering if you order or purchase yours locally.
  9. Thank you @Jawjagrrl and @H.K.Luterman for your encouragement 🙂 I totally agree now that the situation is over lol (hindsight is 20/20) Does anyone know what this little guy is? I'm assuming he hitched a ride with my last order of plants... (You can see him in the first 15 seconds of video)
  10. I had a sponge filter in the tank with them but maybe the additional air stone helped. The 5 that made it are doing well, eating, and behaving normally. I am afraid to try meds again, I am thinking I will just let them alone for three more weeks, see if there is any sign of infections and go from there. It does just make me scratch my head because Irene, Cory, and Zenzo seem to swear by treating new fish with the med trio right away and it works for them. I would have hated to left the corydoras alone and all of them pass away 🙁
  11. I want to thank all of you for your help and support through my most recent trial and error. Since adding an air stone to the other side of the tank & aquarium salt, all five fish are doing great! I recorded a video of breakfast this morning, hope you enjoy it 😄
  12. Thank you all for your support. Woke up with no deaths, although one was still on its side at the top. I did a 50% change just now. I have a sponge filter in the 10-gallon quarantine tank. I have two other tanks (a 29- and 5- gallon) which are both running sponge filters but I don’t have any other air pumps for an airstone. I could go out and get another today. Will aquarium salt stress them out??
  13. Changed 50% water, 1 death, changed 75% water, waiting… Feeling bad that I killed the fish by treating it. Half the people I talked with said they preventively treat their new fish while the other half didn’t. Learning from experience I suppose.
  14. It’s not chlorine, it’s color from the itch-x. Sorry, Chlorine was 0 that was a copy-paste error.
  15. Temp - 79 degrees Ammonia - 0 Nitrites - 0 Nitrates - 0 Hardness - 150 Buffer - 40 Chlorine - 0 pH - between 6.8-7.2
  16. I added an update to the bottom of my initial post. Can y'all check it out??? I'm freaking out 😥
  17. The 29-gallon is planted and fish-less. My quarantine tank is a 10 gallon with no plants and medicated. Can I do the shrimp method with live plants? And the idea is that it speeds up BB growth? I’d like to know how your red floaters do. I had to toss all mine for dying off 😔
  18. I taught middle school math for 3 years and high school algebra and geometry for 3.5! Yourself?? You’re fine!! That’s what the forum is for, to make connections and get questions answered! You’re in Atlanta?? I have family there! I am in Madison, AL 😃
  19. I appreciate your feedback! I have watched Irene's and Cory's videos on cycling but I haven't seen the others you mentioned so I will look into them! 😃 (over the past month I have never done so much youtubing in my life and now I am members of 3 channels and can't stop researching all the things 😆) So, my hangup is that Cory said when you see growth that you can slowly start adding fish. I see lots of growth but still high ammonia and nitrite levels so am I right to avoid adding even hardy fish until those are down?? I know I would love to go, and would probably make it happen, if I wasn't due to have a baby at the end of July 😆
  20. What do you feed them?? Thanks so much for all the feedback! Out of all the advice I've been giving for cycling, the cocktail shrimp is a first 😆
  21. Entry #1 | Entry #2 Because of the prices and overall welfare of the fish in my city I decided to order my first additions from AquaHuna 🙂 I was SO impressed with their communication with me and the adjustments (two ivory mystery snails rather than golden) made for me before shipment. My 6 albino corydoras and 2 mystery snails were shipped Monday(3/28) and arrived TODAY (3/30) 😃 Below is a video of my, way over excitement, introduction of the fish to their quarantine tank 😜 So, the little guys will stay in the tank for 24 hrs to become acclimated to the new water parameters and then I will apply the med trio once, wait two weeks, and then insert them in my 29-gallon. I will put the snails in the tank sooner, but I need to maintain "0" ammonia and nitrites for 24 hours first. I just got in Fritz Zyme from Aquarium Co-Op and applied it to the 29-gallon. My 10 new plants arrive tomorrow, which I am thrilled about! This is all so new and experimental for me but I am currently enjoying the ride (except for maybe the patience part 😆) and my family still loves me despite my new obsession/hobby ☺️ Entry #3 Summary Corydoras & snails arrived today from AquaHuna Acclimation seems to be going well, will quarantine for two weeks 29-gallon still has 0.5 ammonia and 5 nitrite readings 😡 New plants arrive tomorrow Questions I Have What do your mystery snails prefer to eat, and if you blanch foods can you tell me how... If you have any other recommendations for "cycling" my 29-gallon please share. Keep in mind that I am new to the hobby so I do not have other cycled filters or media. UPDATE :: My plants arrived and I have them placed in my 29-gallon now! Below are pictures of the plants and their placement around the ones I already had in my tank. Also, what in blue blazes is happening here!! 😧 All the critters were doing fine and then I applied the med trio around 10:00 AM and come 3:30 PM they scare me half to death by pretending to be dead themselves! I poked them and they frantically swam back to the bottom and acted normal for a few minutes before they sam their way back to the top. I read that they can play "dead" if they are stressed or feel threatened... I know meds can stress fish so am I correct in placing my blame on the meds? Do you think they will be Ok 😥
  22. My albino corydoras and mystery snails come in today from AquaHuna! They were supposed to come in tomorrow but I am THRILLED they are coming a day earlier. I am also SO nervous because I've only had a betta up to this point 😬 I have a quarantine tank set up that I was going to put them in and let them rest for a 24 hours before starting the med trio.
