  1. Just an update. The female got moved to her own tank to recover. I thought about dither fish but didnt seem to be an issue until very recently and I may have mistook the male being aggressive for mating behavior. Any suggestions on good dithers?
  2. Im going to pull the female. I do believe they are cacatoides. I have added a picture of the male just to verify. Should I try reintroducing the female later one?
  3. Hello so I have been trying to breed a pair of apistos given to me by a friend that told me had been paired off for sometime. The female had found a teracotta pot she seemed to favor and looked like she was coaxing the male, I think. Anyway, I have never breed apistos successfully, yet, and this morning I came in to the male now in the cave and the female is just kind of floating alive at the top of the tank. She looks in rough shape with very tattered fins and not moving much. Any ideas or advice would be much appreciated!
  4. Well a little late on the update but I guess better late than never. Tank got set up no leaks. Has been running for about 2 weeks now so fingers crossed it remains in good working order. Added a picture of the filled tank that I hope to make a dutch style aquascape.
  5. All done! Fingers crossed it holds water! Will probably try Thursday to see how my handy work went.
  6. So I think Ive got all the silicone I can. Used white vinegar to remove the last residue. One more good vacuuming out of the residual leftover silicone this afternoon. Tape it up and hope to silicone it this evening!
  7. Any suggestions on what to use to remove the silicone residue? Supposed to snow here tomorrow so using something strong outdoors isnt really an option. I think ive heard nail polish remover or acetone?
  8. Thank you all for the input. I just started clearing all the old silicone today. Will add an update when I finish this step!
  9. This is very helpful and put my mind at ease. I dont think I will remove the trim then. I misspoke I guess. The tank is pretty much brand new but there is a leak at the bottom which I believe is just the silicone that needs replaced. I guess I should have said that instead of resealing.
  10. I am resealing my first large tank, a 40 breeder. I have done 10 gallons in the past but I have heard that bigger tank need more attention. I was hoping to get some insight if I need to take the trim off or not and if so do I need to add glass braces to the top so the frame doesnt warp. Any insight on resealing would be greatly appreciated!
  11. I googled it and that looks exactly the same! Its okay to hook directly to my CO2 tank or am I supposed to remove it?
  12. Im going to take it to my local airgas today to see if they have any insight.
  13. I just bought this used co2 regulator from another aquarist. It looked exactly like the one I already have and it works well. However when I got home I noticed the spot where the co2 connects to the regulator are different. The person I bought it from said its a filter of sorts? The one I just bought has the tiny dots and the other has the regular photo. Wondering if anybody has thoughts on this?
