  1. Thank you. I did the low pH test first and it seemed pretty far into the low. I guess my worry is when I have to do a water change and how it will effect parameters. I should've tested that rock before I added it but I panicked when the wood started floating. Lol. This is week 2 so I think it will sink soon. Here's a pic of the low pH test I took first. Sorry. Kh was 40, gh was 30
  2. Kh and gh readings as if today, and I'm sure the rock is river jack stone my mother bought from a local landscaping supply.

Also, I tested my tap water after aging for 4 days. It was still 6.0
  4. Hello again. Just finished my first week in the group. Some of you may remember I had questions about why my pH has gone up. Scape includes Sakrete play sand and gravel, cedar driftwood, lava rock, and I believe the rock holding the wood down is river jack stone. Im using under gravel filtration, trying out the slow moving plenum method spoke of by Kevin Novak. Even have my air pump working on/off every 10sec. Tds of tap water is 20ppm. pH is 6.0. After a week tds is around 90ppm, pH is 7.5 and as of today it seems the tanks are getting a tad cloudy. Seems quick to be a bacteria bloom. Just tested kh and gh and I'm posting a pic of it all. Loving this journey. Knowledge is wealth. Thank you for your help. kh around 40. Gh around around 30. Please bare with me remembering to take photos in the correct orientation.
  5. I added lava rock to my scapes. My mother had some rocks I'm using to hold the driftwood down. I'll see about testing for kh and gh soon. Here are the rocks.
  6. Early on I tested my water tap water fresh and aged. It read 6.0 both times. Tds was 20ppm. When I soaked my driftwood tds dropped a little over a week period to about 18ppm. I assumed it wasn't leeching anything into the water at that point. If anything, I've heard of driftwood bringing pH down. Here's the rock holding down the wood. I have set aside water to test again and will try to have info on kh and gh in a couple of days. Thank you.
  7. Hello. I've just setup my first aquariums. They've been running in for four days. The driftwood is cedar. I used Sakrete play sand as well as their all purpose gravel, with lava rock and an unidentified rock my mother had to help hold the wood down until it sinks. I decided to use undergravel filtration. From the tap my water pH is 6. Today I tested it and it read 7.4(to me). T.D.S. went from 20ppm and has risen each day. Now it's at 79ppm. My guess is about a 20ppm increase each day. My pH will determine my choice in what species I need to keep. I haven't changed my water yet. Please help me understand what's happening.
