  1. The answer (at least in my case) is no, it doesn't work! All was fairly calm for approximately 48 hours after the move and since then the tiger barbs have been constantly fin nipping the rainbowfish, despite the barbs being in a school of 25. The rainbows are all hiding constantly now. Now comes the fun of trying to catch them in a heavily planted 200 gallon...
  2. Afternoon all, Does anyone have any experience of keeping tiger barbs together with Boeseman Rainbows? My heavily planted 200 gallon currently has 25 green tiger barbs, 12 cherry barbs and a rainbow shark. I`m considering moving over my six adult Boeseman rainbows so that I can completely redo my 120 gallon. Tigers can obviously be nippy, but in the numbers they're in at the moment, they largely keep that among themselves and the Boesemans are big and boisterous enough to hold their own I should think?
  3. I'm currently planning on breaking down my old 450l which is currently home to a breeding pair of angels, six boesemani rainbows, six Denison barbs and a rainbow shark. The rainbow shark is going over to my 200 gallon tiger barb tank on algae duty. The angels are going over to a dedicated 63 gallon tank of their own so that I can start to capitalise on the breeding a bit. The Denison barbs are moving over to a faster flow tank with some danios. That leaves the Boesemanis. Part of the reason I want to redo that tank is because it's in the living room and my six month old loves the colourful and active fish, hence I want to make that into a bit more of colour tank. A guppy tank would be ideal. Plenty of space for them all, lots of colour and activity. I just don't have anywhere to move the rainbows to. Water hardness, PH etc they'll be fine together with. I'm just thinking of the size difference but given how peaceful they are I can't see it being an issue (and they may help to keep some of the fry in check...). Any thoughts?
  4. Thanks everyone. Bought the vac yesterday and made mucking out three old tanks a piece of cake 👍
  5. Afternoon all,Anyone have any experience of using a wet & dry vac (I think more commonly called shop vacs in the US) to drain and suck up small gravel and muck from old fish tanks? I have a few old tanks that I need to drain/clear and that seems the easiest way if it works.I've downloaded numerous instruction manuals from manufacturers and while the instructions are clear that they can be used to suck up liquids (remove the dust bag, fit the wet filter) and to pick up dust and debris (use a normal filter, dust bag optional) it still isn't clear to me if the wet function is suitable for both simultaneously - i.e. sucking up water and wet gravel/sand in one go?Couple of example pictures below (won't be vacuuming up the pebbles obviously...).Thanks!
  6. Thanks 🙂 it's only been running for a couple of weeks so the plants have a lot of bedding in and filling out to do. Benefits of having seven tanks - nicked some filter media from other cannisters and good get a few fish in from the start
  7. Thanks both. It's got plenty of rock and driftwood caves and hiding places so should be fine on that side of things. My concern was more for the cherry barbs given the potential size difference between them and the rainbow shark, and them both broadly occupying the lower levels. It sounds like it should be ok though, although I appreciate there are never any guarantees with fish as it depends on individual temperament. Doesn't look like an immediate red flag though. I'll give it a go and if things get to feisty I'll relocate him to one of the other tanks 👍
  8. Evening all, I have a 193 gallon heavily planted tank which is currently extremely lightly stocked with 25 juvenile green tiger barbs and 12 cherry barbs. Those will go up as time goes on but I'm just stocking it slowly. I'm considering moving my rainbow shark over from a different tank to do the algae eating work. Anyone have any experience of rainbow sharks and cherry barbs? The tiger barbs I'm sure can handle themselves if the rainbow gets a bit rough. The cherries are always going to be on the smaller side though. Thanks.
