  1. Should I treat the tank with the other fish in it? Or what’s the threat to them now that he was in there for like two weeks with it?
  2. It kinda looks like the scales are popping out. Maybe. Not much though if they are. It has looked like this for about a week or two. It looked like this when I purchased it. No other fish seem to have issues. Water parameters are good. 0,0,~20ppm. I will be doing a water change tomorrow. I’ve had many of the other guppies in the tank for over a year. This is a new addition.
  3. I purchased this fish at a big box store with two female guppies. They said it was a female guppy. I think it’s a male, but it looks different. Why is its belly so big? Is it bloated or have dropsy? It’s much smaller than the others too. Tail looks a bit different too. Is it a guppy or an endler? Hybrid? Should I take it out of the tank? Thanks!
  4. I went to the pet store. Made a rookie mistake and didn’t do enough research. They sold me, “Rabbit Snails”. However, I’m pretty sure they are assassin snails. I have them in with an apple snail, a nerite snail, and shrimp. I’m pretty sure I’m going to take them out. But before I do. Am I correct that they are not rabbit snails? Also, will they kill the other snails and shrimp? What benefits do they have? Thanks in advance…
  5. I recently purchased a Peace Lily. I would like to put it in my fish tank. But I can’t find a basket that will work on it. What is everyone using to put there plants in the aquarium?!? Thanks!
  6. Have you considered Cryptocoryne Parava? Smaller than other Crypts. Though I’m told it should have a bit more light and fertilizer definitely helps. I’m also told it’s slow going, but it does look pretty. I just got some and am excited about seeing how it does in my tank.
  7. Hey. I recently purchased three Cryptocoryne Parva from Aquarium Co-Op. I was considering just planting them as three clumps. But recently read they can carpet and plant each individual plant. Has anyone done this? How did it go? Would love to see pics. Any advice you wish you had been given on it? Thanks!!
  8. Sounds good. I will email them. I don’t get my root tabs and glue in until tomorrow. Was thinking about letting them sit in the water over night and adding some easy green. Then doing everything tomorrow. Think this is a good plan? Thoughts? Thanks!
  9. I was in the process of getting my new 20g long tank ready yesterday. Plants were set to arrive on Thursday. Set myself up so I could finish the set up on Wednesday. Flash forward l, plants came on Wednesday morning and sat in a box outside in 45 F weather. They look rough. I’m worried they didn’t do well in transit. I put them in the tank I had running to test leaks and get the wood soaking so it wouldn’t float. I turned on the Fluval 3.0 I have for the tank and set it at 45% across the board except 3% for blue light. As you can see I don’t have it nearly set up. Looking for advice. Thanks!
  10. I purchased two bags of Seachem Flourite Red for my 20g long that I am currently setting up to scape later this week. However, the wife and I recently decided we wanted to have Cory cats in the tank. I’m worried it might be too course for them. Any thoughts on that or recommendations on a red sand to top it? Thoughts? Quick second question: would you rinse the substrate? I have in the past, thinking about not doing it this time. Thoughts?
  11. I have a piece of wood that I took out of a fresh water pond, cleaned, and let sit in my house for about a year. I would like to use it in the 20g long I am setting up. However, I think it might be pine. I’ve heard mixed reviews on adding pine to a tank. If it had been in the pond for a long time, cleaned well, and let completely dry, will it be okay in the tank? Thoughts? Thanks in advance!
  12. I have a planted tank that I had neglected for some time. I am full speed back into trying to get it back. I cleaned the tank a lot. Maybe overcleaned. I might have caused a nitrite spike from it. Anyway, did a bunch of water changes and got it back. This week I decided to add easy green and Flourish Excel. Today I tested the water and the nitrites are at .50 ppm. The nitrates are at 10 ppm. No ammonia. Did the addition of the easy green cause a nitrite spike? Is that a thing? Thanks in advance.
  13. Hello all. Tom here. New to this. I have had my tank cycled for two years. Never owned a fish tank before this. Jumped into a planted tank from the start and ran with a Fluval 3.0. I’ve been watching a lot of YouTube and reading a bunch of blogs. Also tried a bunch of FB forums. Got fish down okay for now, though always learning. Plants.. have been a challenge. I keep thinking I’m doing okay, then I falter. Long story short, I went through a period of malaise with the whole thing. Jumpstarting things now, did a huge overhaul of the tank. Have some plants that haven’t totally died on me and some new plants I just put in. I’m using root tabs, flourish Excel, and Easy Green. I have a 20g tall 16” high. Below are my light parameters based on a lot of what I have been reading. I’m interested in any thoughts. Below is also a list of plants. Thanks in advance!! So glad I found this forum. 1. Sword plant 2. Vallisneria 3. Water Sprite 4. Moss balls 5. Java Fern Windelov 6. Alternanthera Reineckii 7. Water onion bulb (from Petco has yet to sprout) 8. Aponogeton bulb (from Petco, has yet to sprout)
