  1. Hi new to the live plants in the tank do I need to remove the wrappers at the base of the plant that came from aquarium coop

  2. Thanks for the tip! I thought about that but I don't want to over stock, I'm gifting the baby mollies next week so maybe I'll revisit it then
  3. Thanks, I will check this out. I've done alot of reading and just can't seem to figure out the right way to go about it since there are so many different variables and methods

    That's awesome news!
  5. Can anyone help me identify this algae and any recommendations on how to get rid of it? I have lowered the light (fluval 3.0) to 60par, I've been lightly dosing easy carbon and have stopped ferts altogether for the past 2 weeks due to higher than normal nitrates. Was using easy green, was hoping the plants would eat up more of the nitrates. Also being careful with the carbon since I have anarchis in the tank. Upped my water changes from once to twice a week. It's only appearing currently on the slower growing plants (buce, anubias, cryptolucians) but it has spread quite a bit. Test done today- Ph 7.4, amm 0, trite 0, trates 40ppm 36 gallon, planted, 2 ebr's, 13 neon tetras, 2 ottos and 4 baby mollies (ps, ottos and mollies are not touching it)

I'm sorry I'm just seeing these responses. How are the fish after changing the heater? Any better or any worse?

We got some advice from the pros at aquashella recently. Try taking the heater the out and see if it continues. How old is your heater? Fluval & eheim make decent adjustable heaters in several different wattages that won't break the bank. Not saying it's for sure your heater but it's worth a shot, we never even thought about it untill it was mentioned It wouldn't explain the rubbing but it could explain the flashing. Also I believe flashing plus rubbing could be a sign of gill flukes
  8. @quikv6 how much would you recommend adding? I'm unsure of the dosage being as though she has 2 small babys in the tank with her and don't want to hurt them in the process. Also I have all live plants

The heater was malfunctioning and sending small pulses of electricity into the water, not enough for us to feel but enough for the fish to make them flash, even lost a couple in the process of figuring it out

A friend of mine had an issue with flashing and it turned out to be the heater malfunctioning
  11. My female molly who I've had for about a year now has been acting strange. It started with her top fin was clamped and she was just hanging at the top which is not like her. I moved her into quarentine with some aquarium salt and her fin perked back up immediately, I also noticed string like poop so I fasted her for 3 days thinking maybe she was constipated. On the 4th day she was pooping, eating and swimming like normal. I added her back into her tank and she went back to hiding on the bottom with her top fin down. All parameters in the tank are stable. Amm 0, trite 0, trate 5, pH 7.4, temp 79. I live in Florida so the water is always hard. She lives in the tank with 2 of her female babys. The babys are acting normal with no issues. Wondering what the next step should be? I do weekly water changing and gravel vacs, this week I did 2- one after I took her out and 1 right before I put her back in just incase. This afternoon I added some stresscoat in the tank and shut the lights out just to make her a little more comfortable. Any insight would be helpful
  12. Can anyone tell me what this is on the inside of the glass? Fresh water aquarium, live plants- all water parameters are good. Its a fairly new tank that was set up for baby mollie fry. I do 50% water changes/ gravel vacume twice a week to keep up with their waste
