  1. Hello, I have a lot of ground debris in the tank yet I'm concerned about accidently bothering the loaches or the shrimp when I vacuum. What is the suggestion around vacuuming and not disturbing the tank? Also I was thinking of getting a matten filter for the 30 gallon tank. I have two sponge filters now but I figure they may not be that effective if the ground becomes a mess. If you have any suggestions it would be much appreciated. Thank you, Algaefishowl
  2. Yes it is hard to remove even with a scraper. Most likely you are right that it is green spot algae. I'm going to try increasing the phosphate and scrap it off the walls. Any idea how to remove it from the plants? Thank you for your help
  3. Hello I'm having a similar issue as the other poster,@MI Fish, with green algae. I haven't tried a treatment because I don't want to jeopardize the shrimp. Do you think it would? I dimmed the lights (brightened for the picture) I didn't notice a change in the algae presence. Also although an otto is in the picture, I have two, neither seem interested in eating the algae on the walls or the plants. Do they not typically eat that kind? Thank you for your help, algaefishowl
  4. Thanks for the feedback! I'll have to be more careful with the water changes because they usually go well but the temp etc was probably off this time around in addition to changing tanks recently. The tank has a mix of cherry shrimp and wild type Neo. All ages but mainly adolescents ones are dyeing and some older ones.
  5. Ok, thank you that makes sense. I think it is stress induced because of the all the tank movement and adjustment; I had to take out two algae eaters and that was hard because they were hiding. Hopefully the shrimp will adjust. Is there a way to vacuum while not doing a water change?
  6. Hello I did a pretty big water change recently as I was moving up tanks. The filters are cycled since I moved them over to the new tank, pH is 7, Nitrite and nitrates are low, KH and GH are high and the other fish appear fine and swimming with no irritation. It is a planted aquarium and the plants don't have any rot. There are many shrimp in the tank, but I have noticed there to be an increase in shrimp death where it used to be not common. Any idea why this change would occur or what needs to be checked? Thank you for your help!
  7. Thank you for letting me know! I read up on the fish. I’m surprised they can grow around 6in. I’ll have to return them since I won’t be able to support their growth. Any suggestion as a replacement algae eater for a 35 gallon community tank? Thanks again.
  8. Hello I got these two algae eaters and wasn't told what kind they are. I was hoping to find out more about the fish. One has a solid black stripe down the side and the other has more of a blotchy stripe. I've had them for a little over a month and they have grown quickly, but seem to be done growing at about 2 inches. Are they Siamese algae eaters, ottos, or something else? Thanks for your help!
  9. Hello, I came back from vacation to encounter odd inhabitants in my tank. There are several white worms on the top glass of the tank and they can be seen swimming. It's hard to catch them swimming with a camera. There are also cricket/flea looking water bugs that like burying in the substrate. What are they? Should I be concerned? How do I get rid of these bugs? The fish and the plants that I have in the tank appear to be in fine condition. Thank you for any insight you can give it is much appreciated.

  11. Hello I have an update. The white dots and film have gone down and seems to be disappearing. The Maracyn and a mix of vacuuming everyday (with new emergence of such film) has proved to be effective treatment.
  12. Hello thank you for your response and insight. I believe it could have begun as food waste; it started in the section that I add food to the tank. It has since spread to the whole floor and creeps up the wood. All the wood was boiled beforehand and isn't new. After your comment I vacuumed but the next day it presented itself in a similar manner (little effect on overall appearance). I have removed the banana plant. I'm waiting for the Maracyn to be delivered to test its effect.
  13. Hello although this fungus/bacteria has spread on the bottom of the tank. I haven't noticed any negative affect on the fishes or the snails. I'm not sure what to do. Any help or insight will be very much appreciated. I noticed it starting about a week ago. Thank you
