  1. I have not. I had the water company that I rent my softener from come and test and they said it was 7.0. I’ll try the air stone and bucket. Thank you for the recommendation!
  2. Thank you Corey for the reply. I have not tried prime. I don’t regularly use anything in the water for treatments but tried the easy balance because I had it on hand. It didn’t change anything when I rechecked with test strip this morning. I talked to the city employee that handles the water maintenance and he said they do not use any chlorine. They did years ago but have had all new water lines put in about 5 years ago. I find it strange that I only have problems with ph in this particular aquarium. I have 7 total tanks and this is the only one that gives me problems and it has the least amount of fish in it. I feed one time daily in the evenings. For filtration I have 2 Aqua-tech filters that hang on the back of the tank and are each for 40-60 gallons. With koi I was going for more filtration. I change the 8 cartridges biweekly. When I tested for ammonia with the test strips the water tested perfect so I’m at a loss of what to do to lower the alkalinity/ph. thank you, holly b
  3. Good morning! I have a 55 gallon tank with 7 fish plus one small pleco. I have 1 butterfly koi, 3 regular koi and 2 Sarasa comets and a shubunkin goldfish. Koi are getting on larger side and are about 4-6” and comets are maybe 3” size. Please no shaming for koi in aquarium- I dug a 4000 gallon pond last fall they will be transitioning to in a few months when the snow is gone 😁. I have been doing water changes every week but recently have been having to do them every couple of days. I have city water with a water softener unit. No chlorine. My large white butterfly koi gets pink color on her tail. I checked the water with test strips and the water is very alkaline. How do I fix that? I did add easy balance to it after the water change yesterday afternoon and that did not change anything. I’ve attached a couple pictures of what I used and one of the pink in her tail. thanks for your help!
  4. I have 6 other tanks and did water changes on all Of them Thursday evening. The only tank showing any stress is the angels. The tetras, loch, pleco and female bettas seem fine in the angel Tank. It has to be something from that heater or the new heater. Ill Take the new one out and see how they do overnight. I’m on city water and have been for 16 years. Ive never had a problem with the water in all my tanks and I’ve never had to dad anything to the water. Im certain it’s something to do with the heater situation. Thanks for all the awesome advice!!
  5. I didn’t add any water treatment. The tank mates seem ok just the angels are stressing and so far one dead - 2 more not looking ver well. The temp on the side of my tank says 80 degrees so the heater is working. Is it possible that with the new heater shocked them by warming up too fast by going without a heater for a day?
  6. Thursday evening I completed a 60% water Change on my 48 gallon tank. While filling the tank the heater bounced off the glass in the back corner of the tank and broke. I took the heater and glass out and threw them in the garbage. I replaced the heater the next day with one from Walmart. I have it set for 80 degrees. Now 1.5 days later my fish are dying and are very stressed. This has never happened before. any ideas what’s causing them to die? The only thing that was changed was water and new heater. Nothing added to tank water. I checked ammonia and it’s normal. I don’t have any other test strips on hand. I did 20 gallon water change to see if that will help anything. thanks in advance!
  7. Pretty sure it’s epistylis. Will It be safe for goldfish to go up to 82 degrees? Should I remove the healthy ones from the tank while upping temp? I’d really hate to lose all of them. Also, what is Kanaplax and does aquarium coop sell it? How do you mix it with food? Thanks!
  8. Water parameters just checked again now after adding salt about 30 mins ago. nitrate 10 nitrite 0 water hardness is soft 75 total alkalinity now says high color matches 300 ph 7.8 Do you recommend a water change now that the water went from great to not so great after adding salt? I added 2-3 tablespoons for the 55 gallons. I dissolved in water prior to adding to the tank. The aquarium salt I have directed 1 tablespoon for 10 gallons for recovery from disease or stress. I thought a little might help.
  9. I have been using ich-x for 9 days and white spots are not changing. I am doing daily water changes of 30%. I have a shubunkin goldfish with small dots on his tail, dorsal, and a few random ones on his body. The spots are very small - like grains of salt. In the same tank I have a black koi that is missing some scales and has a few small white spots on his face and an injury on his cheek and a white butterfly koi who has pink fins. Water parameters are great. Today I added some aquarium salt. My tank is 55 gallons. How do I help my fish get better so the entire tank doesn’t die?? This is a well established tank, have not added any new fish in 3 years. However, I have multiple tanks and do weekly water changes and had an outbreak from a couple Pictus cats bought at petsmart in another tank and I think I may have brought it to the other tanks from doing water changes and using the same gravel siphon. Please advise! I did lose another shubunkin from this tank a few weeks ago from dropsy. She did not have any of these symptoms. She looked like a pinecone. My pictures won’t upload from my phone or I would attach them for reference. thanks for your help!! hollyjo
