  1. They all got big sadly, mine are at around 4-5” now but there’s reports of even bigger ones.
  2. Kanaplex is a good idea and maybe Maracyn (erythromycin) to make sure you have all the bases covered. There’s a lot of variables that can affect the water quality of a fish tank. Not sure what you mean by “tests were negative”. Do you mean everything was 0? That’s odd for a cycled tank since you should have some nitrates unless it’s heavily planted. Also what is the PH?
  3. That’s what I was thinking… most likely just misgendering young fish rather than actual sex changes.
  4. Last week I attended Max’s 13th birthday party. Max is a red eared slider lol. We had TMNT theme going on, had pizza and even a turtle cake. Great gathering and good excuse to bring fish and aquatic animal enthusiasts together. gotta start planning birthday parties for my bigger fish now haha
  5. I have not seen it personally but I’ve heard that female only tanks can sometimes have a female turn into a male? Is that the case?
  6. It’s a canna lily. This is pretty much an experiment to see if this variety can live fully submerged for long periods. So far so good (it’s been 1 month).
  7. You can use fishing line to wrap around the moss and “train it” to grow how you want it
  8. Very easy to see, cold and heat tolerant and reproduce readily!
  9. I got them from a reputable seller off band app (Alex fish room). They have been quarantined and so far so good.
  10. I have the same issue with stores around me. Could have been stress from shipping perhaps. Neos can be sensitive when getting settled but once established the colonies breed like crazy.
  11. Out of curiously… how big is your tank? The tank is still fairly new as well but seems like the other shrimp are doing good so far so that’s good news. Ideally there should be 0 ammonia and nitrite but the levels are very low so it should be fine. Did you get the shrimp from the same source? I find that local breeders are best unless you’re sure the pet store acclimated their shrimp properly.
  12. If the mother is new she may have birthed prematurely… it happens sometimes. Guppies are quite tolerant of temps but a heater may help. It is odd that there’s 0 nitrates though, it can happen in heavily planted tank but normally that’s the time when I add some ferts. Not sure if more food was needed, especially in a planted tank with no other fish, I personally only feed guppy babies 2x per day on average and they do fine.
  13. There are a few pumps that are fairly cheap there’s an aqua eat on Amazon for about $8. Power heads work too.
  14. I had been looking for toucano tetras for a while and finally got a hold of a bunch. They may not be the brightest but they have very cute pink cheeks and bright blue eyes.
  15. Are the fins still deteriorating? Fin rot looks like the fins are melting away and look very ragged once it starts to heal the fins have a more defined shape. If it still looks bad, you want to add some medication or at the very least Indian almond leaves to combat infection if any. bettafix gets a bad rap but I find that it does help with fin regrowth, kordon fish protector is also good.
  16. Septicemia is a blood infection and sometimes it does present itself with red streaking. It May not have spread throughout the body yet but it does look like an infection. if there’s no response with erythromycin then it may be a good idea to get gram negative antibiotics like kanaplex or Maracyn-2
  17. I would try aquarium salt and Indian almond leaves to see if that resolves it. In my opinion, this doesn’t look bloody enough to have been a hookworm but hard to tell. They usually come off with the head easily as well.
  18. I love these guys! I keep them in a 75 gallon tank and they hang out mostly on the top section of the tank. I do have some floating plants as well as a huge Anubias that has big leaves close to the surface. They do school from time to time as well. I keep temp at 82° PH around 7.4 and I do water changes at least once a week but usually more often. They’re in there with rainbow cichlids so there’s pretty much always babies in there and get fed with live brine shrimp regularly. The pencilfish now eat just about everything but they have tiny mouths so many pellets don’t work.
  19. There should be more tanks in the pic… I always get larger ones to “replace the smaller one” but I never take it down lol
  20. I have lots of shrimp daydreams if that counts lol they’re definitely addicting!
  21. Alright sooooo I got the Fluval CO2 kit a while ago because it was on super sale and I got it for a song. I’m fairly new to CO2 but not to planted tanks and I want to give it a go… this kit works ok but it’s definitely not perfect. I’m willing to invest some money into a better setup with a solenoid and more reliable features. Preferably something mid range (maybe $300 or so). Any recommendations or tips?
  22. Yes, I have a few adults there so it is possible two rainbow cichlids mated and now the angel is taking over.
  23. Can rainbow cichlids and angelfish hybridize? at first I was confused since there was only one female rainbow guarding the babies and the angel was awfully close.I then realized that the angel is watching over the babies as well!! I’m not sure if the female mates previously with another rainbow male or what but I’ve never heard of two vastly different species of cichlid working together to protect fry.
