  1. First time I've purposely bred anything in my 9gal. I love watching these little guys scoot around, reminds me of the Jetsons cartoon for some reason 😄
  2. I second clown plecos being "hide and seek" champions! I don't see my guy unless it's at night using my LED flashlight. I literally go months without seeing it with all the driftwood in my 29gal!
  3. Black water tanks are awesome, although I know not everyone likes the darker appearance
  4. I'm sorry to read this. What are you exact water parameters? Do you know what the fish store's parameters are? How long has the tank been set up? Without any other information, it could be iridovirus dwarf gourami disease. I had a blue powder gourami randomly pass and I believe it was due to that disease. You can try aquarium salts and see if it helps. I'll let others with more experience chime in. Good luck!
  5. This is so awesome! My father took me herping as a kid and I've got tons of special memories from that. My in-laws have a gravity fed spring running next to their house and we usually catch salamanders and crawdads/crayfish and the occasional snake!
  6. I cut up some watermelon tonight and peeled the outer most skin off. The shrimps were on it in minutes!
  7. @Chick-In-Of-TheSea thanks for that etsy link! I never seen those shrimp lollies before, will definitely check them out! They look like incense sticks lol
  8. @Lennie thanks for the information, definitely going to check out that list!
  9. @FLFishChik thanks for the info! I've used cucumber before, looking forward to trying watermelon and other fruit/veggies. Maybe I'll use this topic as a way of testing stuff that the inverts like and don't like.
  10. Hey y'all! Now that most of us are getting warmer weather, it has me thinking about what types of veggies/fruits to feed my shrimps and snails. Has anyone tried watermelon rinds, strawberry leaves, summer squash or other seasonal produce and had success? Here's my 9gal currently! Hoping to have tons of RCS soon!
  11. Just my .02 with my own experiences with a 9gallon. You can certainly keep nano fish and they will live.. but it's a very small habitat. Add tons of plants, driftwood, rocks, etc and then space becomes very limited. I'd definitely start with a shrimp colony then maybe get one centerpiece fish to keep shrimp population in check.
  12. Yeah! I have those all over my 9gal. There's tons of the egg sacs everywhere. I had quite a population in my 29gal but the GBR ate just about all of them.
  13. I'm thinking a bladder snail.. I'd leave it honestly, they are great clean-up crew! The more food you feed, the more they'll breed.
  14. Beautiful! Already showing potential! Are those MTS shells laying around?
  15. Maybe remove the hides and water dish, etc and see if the vibrations to his environment make him surface. When I would feed my KSB, taking those things out (just for safety reasons, I put the water dish and hides back) would cause him to surface and wait for the meal.
  16. I'd just wait and give the noodle more time to adjust. Idk if milksnakes are nocturnal, dinural, or what but maybe wait til the lights are off and see if you can see it moving about.
  17. I can second not using heat rocks. I used a ZooMed heating pad placed on one end on the outside of the VERTICAL side of the glass. It decreases the chances of the snake being burned and helps to keep that hot side of the tank hot! I never unplugged it. I used an infrared heat gun to check temps, then used varying wattages of incandescent bulbs in one of those black "reptile" domes to achieve the desired ambient temps. I used the CUC that came with my bioactive kit. Never really saw any creepycrawlys, but I also spot cleaned the snake's poop when I came across it. I don't think you can have too many isopods or anything, and those piebald ones are definitely cute lol.
  18. Beautiful snake and bioactive set up! I haven't owned milksnakes before so I can't comment on their specific care requirements. One thing I will suggest is to use gloves and long tongs when feeding pinkies, the last thing you want is for your hand to smell like food! If you want to be able to handle your noodle, start ASAP. I would probably wait til he/she sheds, then get it used to being handled.
  19. What color is your substrate? I'd go with something that contrasts the substrate. I like the bee pandas color scheme best!
  20. Thought I would share some pics of my male GBR in my 29gal blackwater aquarium! The lighting is always terrible as the tank faces two eastern windows, but I think these came out nicely!
  21. I feed Fluval bug bites to all my fish (harlequin rasboras, candy cane tetras, GBR, betta) and the very small rasboras have no problems with the granuals.
  22. My phone camera sucks lol. Samsung Galaxy s20.. you should be able to zoom in the picture to see them. This seems like it could be a likely cause! Thanks 😊
  23. Like the title states, I've got a HUGE explosion of these tiny things everywhere in my 9gallon. It recently housed 6 harlequin rasboras, which have been moved to my 29gallon. Currently has one female betta, 4+ red cherry shrimp, and 1 mystery snail. I'll notice the occasional worms after feeding but never this heavy. It seems the freeze-dried tubifex worms came back to life in my tank (which I know is impossible). I've rarely fed the 9gallon in the last week to see if the worm population dies back but it doesn't seem to have worked. This tank is almost 2 years old, has one giant amazon sword that takes up majority of the space and tons of water spangles floating up top. I'll do a major gravel vac/water change tomorrow and see if it helps. Tank parameters: pH-7 NO2-0 NO3-80
  24. This is totally outside the box but what about an Elephant Trunk snake? Fully aquatic, stay fairly small... can also be kept with fish. I've seen a few videos and it would be cool (imo) to have a mini anaconda!
  25. Amanos are up there for eating various algae, and definitely nerite snails as mentioned above. I personally have not seen my mystery snails eat algae, they tend to clean up any leftover fish food or the occasional veggie I've dropped in. I had some mollies that ate bits of plant matter too.. Having floating plants covering 75%+ of my surfaces has reeeeally helped with algae in my aquariums in my experience.
