  1. I think some of these things depend on the puffer in question. I have mine (a single rescue) in a 22 long with cories, exclamation point rasboras and blue dream shrimp. I've never seen him go after the shrimp. One scrambled over his head the other day and he didn't do a thing. He gets fed snails and frozen food (blood worms and brine shrimp). In the summer he gets mosquito larvae as well.
  2. sundadanio axelrodi. When they colour up they are amazing!
  3. I have bred clown killies in a 10 gallon. Fairly easy to do as long as there is a lot of plant cover. Species only tank with a lot of moss and floating plants. I currently have an alien betta with clown killies in a 20 long with no issues. A betta would likely eat any fry.
  4. I love my green neon tetras! a bit smaller than regular neons and I've found mine hardier than the regular neons I've kept in the past.
  5. I'm lucky enough to have a few local stores. I buy 95% of my aquarium stuff from one in particular. Everything from food, substrate, plants, ferts and fish.
  6. It depends on your endlers and betta. I had a very nice male that I kept in a 10gallon with 5 male endlers. A couple of them would harass the betta and nip his tail. I had to move him to his own tank. I've then tried a female betta in the same situation and she chased those boys around constantly. I had to move her to a separate tank as well. I have successfully kept bettas in community tanks, so it just depends on the fish. I do find it easier in a 20 long - I think everyone has more space/territories.
  7. Nice build! I have a similar muck bucket but was lazy and just have an sponge filter and plants running in mine.
  8. too many! Current favorites: pygmy cories nano gouramis (sparkling/croaking and licorice). red neon rainbows clown killi fish chilli rasboras green neon tetras
  9. I watch almost everything, unless it's a topic I have no interest in. I like listening to the livestreams in the background when I work from home (both you and other fishtubers).
  10. if you can do it I would get a regular 10 gallon. A lot more options. And guppies reproduce so rapidly you'll want that extra space. If it's just males you won't have to worry about babies though. I do like the Spec V for the horizontal swimming space.
  11. I had a heater not turn off before and I noticed the fish at the surface gasping for air. Water got up to 92! turned off and removed the heater, added and airstone right away. Luckily it was summer and I replaced it a few days later. i now keep a close eye on my heaters. I haven't had one break though.
  12. I have a tub pond on my apartment balcony (20 gallons). I pulled my salvinia but kept the water lettuce and hyacinth. I put a mini portable greenhouse over it and my rice fish are doing fine. The water hyacinth has seen better days, but is still looking ok so i've left it for now but check every 2/3 days. I ran an airstone in the summer when it was hot, but haven't used one since mid September.
  13. as others have, I've stocked newly planted tanks lightly and fed every couple of days. Just test your water and be prepared to do bigger, more frequent water changes in the beginning. I usually set up a tank first and let it run a few weeks anyway.
  14. I've got one set up at my office at reception. Just the Flex 9. using stock equipment, light is on a timer. I did baffle one of the outputs with a pre-filter sponge so the endlers (boys only) aren't blown around the whole tank. I've had it with low light plants (java ferns, anubias, crypts). Currently has some dwarf chain sword and limnophila sessiliflora. The limnophila has been growing fine. The dwarf chain sword is still good, but not sending out runners from what I can see. I may change it back to crypt parva. Nice little tank.
  15. do you have any local FB groups? I'm lucky in that there are lots of local shrimp breeders near me with a ton of variety. But I'm amazed at some of the strains local people have!
  16. I find my shrimp do best when i buy from a local breeder. Also if the tank has been running for a couple of months.
  17. I've colony bred clown killis in a 10 gallon. Can't see why it wouldn't work in a 5. Lots of moss and floating plants. Species only tank.
  18. If you keep chillis make sure you block the intake with coarse sponge. Mine made it all the way to the pump chamber. They were a pain to get out.
  19. When I kept a summer muck bucket with plants and guppies at my parents the raccoons used to love pulling out my sponge filter and the plants. Guppies seemed to do ok. Curious little guys.
  20. Rachel O'Leary has a pond playlist on her channel. She has one where she shows how she collects her pond fish and shrimp at the end of the season.
  21. After 2 weeks in my 18 gallon pond, I moved one of my water hyacinth to a 3 gallon bucket with aged green water. I just saw medaka fry! They are around eyelash size. I've started feeding them with Hikari First bites. How often should I be feeding them and how often should I change water? I'm not running any filtration on the bucket. It just has water hyacinth and some other plants (java moss, salvinia). It's kept in the shade to help minimize temp swings. Any other tips experienced medaka breeders have?
  22. I had a group of 12 pseudomugil luminatus. They would spawn all the time, but eggs/fry would get eaten. I would occasionally put plant clippings from that tank to a holding bucket and ended up with some accidental fry. I'd wait till they got big enough before putting them back in with their parents. But I never purposefully tried to breed them.
  23. In Vancouver BC and it's hot! I've turned off my lights and am running an extra air stone in my tanks and outdoor pond. Daily small water changes with cooler water. I've moved my tub pond into the shade on my balcony. I did see medaka fry today so I think everyone is surviving!
