  1. I have a 2.5 gallon tank with plants and driftwood. I put a small pre-cycled sponge filter in it and have been running it for two weeks with a large mystery snail. I recently purchased 10 crystal shrimp from a local store, drip acclimated them and 2/3 of them perished in the first 24 hours. I moved the remaining shrimp to an aquarium with my blind beta in it where they are doing well, but the water is too warm for them in there. I really want to put them in my planted aquarium but i can’t figure out what caused the massive die off. pH 6.4, ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 0 gH 5, kH 2, tds 128, temp 70 degrees I know the tank is cycled because I check it every day and it went through a small ammonia spike, then nitrites were up for a few days, then I got a tiny bit of nitrate before everything went back to 0. The plants have been growing very well and the snail has been extremely active and happy. Help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Eggs?

Thank you! I don't seem to have a snail issue, I think Scott (betta) eats most of them while they are tiny.
  3. Are these eggs or something sinister? I am seeing them in my 15 gallon nano tank. I've never seen eggs in my aquariums before, i just sometimes notice I have new baby fish. But that's never happened in my nano tank. I have emerald dwarf rasbora, blue eye rainbow fish, and a betta in this one.
  4. Thanks for the tip. I’ve had poor luck finding stores that sell live food near me. The only thing I can find is frozen blood worms so I’m feeding that every two days and a pellet every morning.
  5. I lost a gorgeous giant koi betta to a heater malfunction. I now keep my 15gallon at 74 degrees with my new baby in it and all is well. He lives with 7 emerald dwarf rasbora and they’ve done very well in there for the last 6 months.
  6. Thanks! I’ve been dropping blanched broccoli and romaine lettuce into the tank and they seem to pick at that for now. If they start tearing up my more beloved plants, I’ll move those plants to a different tank.
  7. You can find healthier bettas from more responsible breeders, but you are going to pay higher prices for them. Usually anywhere from $50 to $100 per fish.
  8. I’ve never owned any type of cichlids before, the aggressive nature makes me nervous. But, I recently purchased 3 of these pretty little gems. They are supped to be red shoulder Severums. Right now they are only 1.5 inches and after 5 days I’m already in love with them. They are in my 120 gallon tank with 10 adult diamond tetras and 10 adults blue emperor tetras. The emperor’s are as large as the diamonds to my surprise. So far the severums have been a bit shy and taking a bit of chasing and aggression from the diamonds. Does anyone know if these severums will keep their dark black bars as they grow?
  9. Thanks for the input. I will have to try one.
  10. Looking for recommendations for an adjustable HOB filter for a 125 gallon. I have angelfish, emperor tetras and diamond tetras. My filters are on the way out and I would like to replace them with new ones that don’t have such a high water flow. I’m having difficulty finding something and would appreciate recommendations. I do cover the intake tubes with foam sleeves to help with manual filtration and add extra surface area for BB.
