  1. Thanks, will do everything you’ve suggested. 🙂 Do you have any suggestions on the types of plant to add?
  2. Thanks for you advice @mmiller2001! So all of the black leaves are just dead or dying and won't recover? I have never used the easy carbon, just have it on hand. What do you suggest instead of Equilibrium for the dGH? Is it better to dose 9 pumps of EG twice a week. a few pumps a day, or all at once? I really appreciate your help. I took a look at your journal. Beautiful tanks!
  3. Yes, I just measured it this morning. I got it up to 8dGH with equilibrium at one point. Do you have a suggestion for the fertilizer/water change schedule? I have easy iron and easy carbon as well as equilibrium and acid/alkaline buffer. I got my kh up to 4 and gh to 8 at one point using those, but would prefer less chemicals if possible. Should I add more/different plants? How much coral would you try to maintain in the filter?
  4. Hi everyone, I am hoping you can help me determine what the issue is with my plants in my 75g. I started the tank in April 2020. Attached is a photo of the healthy tank in September 2021. I noticed the anubias leaves curling/darkening in December and this is what they look like as of yesterday. Every anubias in the tank has this issue. My amazon sword and banana plant are also looking bad, so I wasn't sure if it was nutrient related. Is this some form of algae? I've searched online and can't find a picture similar to this. Nothing rubs off when I touch the leaves. There is some black algae in the sand/front of the glass. The tank is cloudy in the pic because of a recent filter clean, normally the water is clear. I did change some rocks in September - could this have contributed to the problems with the leaves? I have another 20g long that has been running since Sept 2020 with the same rocks that is mostly thriving, including the snails doing better, so I am not sure what is different from each tank. I moved a sword from the 75 to the 20g in Sept 21, and you can see the growth. Stocking: 2 EBAs, 10 congo tetras, 1 SAE, 2 mystery snails, 1 BN pleco, 7 corydora (had 6 and they bred at some point - noticed the extra cory after it was a few months old) The EBAs have also bred several times. The last successful batch was in September as well. Parameters in 75g: ph -7 am-0, ni-0 na-20-40, FX4 filter + large 40+ sponge filter. Fluval 3.0 I do a water change of 50% every 2 weeks. My water is soft- kh-0-1, gh- 3 and I did have issues with the tank dropping to <6 ph in the past but I have put crushed coral in the filter and that has stabilized the ph. I have dosed Easy Green, but not with any regularity because my nitrates are always higher. I used to have water sprite that was exploding, but over time it slowly died as well. I want to start over, but should I just cut all of the leaves off of the anubias? Java fern, jungle val and crypts have never done well in any of my tanks if that helps. Any thoughts are appreciated!
  5. Good idea about the divider. Fingers crossed that I can get it right this time!
  6. Thanks @Pete! So I got about 30 of them in the breeder box using a turkey baster. They hatched and she was moving them already to the pit when I got home last night and she was not happy with the intrusion, lol. She is still guarding a bunch of them so I am going to let those get a little bigger before I try again. I ordered a brine shrimp hatchery and eggs that should be here Monday... regardless, if this batch doesn't pan out I will be 100% ready next month (assuming they continue to breed monthly). I am cycling the 20g long now. Do you think the best course next month would be to move the parents into the 20g prior to them breeding? Or, grab the eggs immediately next time and move them before they hatch? I hope to raise the fry in the 20g until I am able to sell or give away. I guess the month old fry would possibly eat the babies? Going to run out of tanks!! 🙂 Definitely a big learning experience that I am excited about, even though it wasn't planned, considering I didn't have fish until July! If these guys make it I'll be sure to post some pics.
  7. @Pete Thanks for the advice! Unfortunately, I let the eggs hatch and was going to move them after work but they all got eaten on about the 4th day post hatching. I was so mad at myself. You have impeccable timing, however, as the female laid a new batch of eggs yesterday! I got a 20g long in anticipation of this happening again, but it isn't set up yet. I do have a spare sponge filter in my main tank and was thinking of setting up the 20g today or tomorrow at the latest. If it won't be ready in time, the 10g is still set up as well, but she is definitely heavily guarding the eggs. Should I move them now or wait until they are in the wiggler stage? Or, should I just move the leaf to a breeder box in the main tank? She laid on the exact same leaf as before so I am hesitant to cut it off the plant. Thanks again for your response!
  8. Hi everyone, I just started in this hobby in May. I have a planted 75g with 2 electric blue acaras, 10 congo tetras, 6 peppered cory, a clown pleco, a bristlenose pleco and 2 mystery snails. I got the 2nd EBA on August 8th and the fish have already spawned and the eggs are on a plant leaf. All but a few of the eggs appear darker, so I assume they are fertilized and the 2nd EBA is male. The fish are about 3” right now so not even full adult size. What are my next steps if I want to keep some fry if/when they hatch? I have a spare 10g that has been running as my hospital tank. Should I get a breeder box or some sort of tank divider for the main tank instead to give them the best chance? Any advice is much appreciated as I am a complete newbie when it comes to fish breeding and raising fry. Thanks!
