  1. Hi all, I’m looking into starting a pond for a year round fish pond it can get into single digits where I live. I am thinking I will want a pump for water flow and aeration in the winter when ice may cover. Is there anything I should know about this that may be an issue? I was also curious how necessary a heater will be to keep the fish alive/ reduce the amount of ice that may form. I am planning on stocking white clouds, rainbow shiners, or rice fish as of right now.
  2. Yeah I have seen people keeping them with bristlenose plecos so I may just have to put them in and test it out for myself!
  3. Hi, all I am curious if Hillstream loaches re known to eat their own fry? I would also be curious if anyone has experienced them bothering other fish fry like plecos. I appreciate any information on this topic!!
  4. Hi all, I know that loaches tend to eat eggs, but has anyone had an experience with these loaches eating other fry whether it be their own or any other fry. I am in the process of moving tanks around and I may have to put a small group in with my BN pleco fry and I assume it should be fine, but will they go after pleco fry?
  5. I have seen those but I think I fall into the people that don’t have the time for that process it is very interesting nevertheless. I may just upgrade my 20 long and throw the super reds in the 40 so I can do less water changes😅😅
  6. For sure! I have guppy tanks breeding panda guppies and different tanks with super red bristlenose just in the market for something a little different in a way. I heard that pygmy species of corydoras can be colonized as they are often uninterested in eggs and babies and I’m sure if enough foliage was in the tank I could even breed other corydoras the same with Java moss or methods like getting eggs to fall into hard to reach spots which I’ve done with hillstream loaches.
  7. Hi all just looking for some fun breeding options preferably something I can just colonize up in there was thinking of some corydoras or a new pleco to try other than bristlenose. I thought I may be able to try a nano fish above like clown killis to let breed in there as well I have some spare tanks to seperate fry, bu trust curious on some ideas that I could get rid of fry easily if I were to get a lot of breeding.
  8. Hi all, I have seen some talk about breeding and whether not eggs are safe with shrimp or if they will eat the eggs in the tank. I was curious if anyone had a history of breeding egg scatters or egg layers in tanks that had shrimp and if I need to pull eggs via a mop or if you can easily breed fish in tanks that have shrimp as the shrimp will only eat bad eggs. I hope this makes sense I appreciate all feedback!!
  9. Hi all, just curious on how people carry out in their pleco breeding process. I have around 15 fry in a cave rn( free swimming) and the male has left the cave for another. I only have snails and the pair of plecos in the tank. Would it be reasonable to move the fry into a plastic breeding box or do people generally let them be and figure out how to find food for themselves. I’ve never seen them outside of the cave myself.
  10. Unfortunately I don’t live near Washington🥲 maybe I’ll just risk ordering some and seeing if I get lucky😅 thanks for the pointers I kinda figured they would be too young most stores around me sell F8s or Dragon puffers unfortunately haven’t gotten to see if I could sex them myself.
  11. Hi, I have heard of how it is possible to sex pea puffers in order to attempt to get “less aggressive” puffers or in other words get more females, but I have never experienced doing this in stores are puffers generally too small in stores for this or is there a place that sells puffers experienced enough to sex them?
  12. What kind of substrate are you using? It could be the reason it dropped to 6.0. In planted tanks if you have root feeders or any plants, depending on how nasty is nasty of course, siphoning the substrate isn’t as necessary as you think. I have tanks I never clean the substrate that often maybe once a month or two I go over them for debris but the rest my plants use for nutrients. I hope you can figure out the cause so it can be fixed and your aquarium hobby continues!
  13. Hi all, I was curious on which heaters that were somewhat compact people have went to when buying or setting up a 10g fish tank. In aq co op’s tutorial on breeding apistogrammas where dean setups the tank he puts in a heater and I was curious if anyone knew the brand or a similar one that works well? Appreciate any help on this!!
  14. Neocaridinia most likely, but I never know what I end up with in this hobby😂 that’s good too know will have to grab a few crypts!! Do you keep any sort of tetras or rasboras? I thought of maybe trying a nice pencil fish school in if I felt I needed something above them.
  15. Hi all, I was looking into seething up a tank for some habrosus corydoras to breed in a colony style I’m not sure if I’ll invest in a fish to keep around the top to keep with them, but will shrimp and snails decimate the egg population or if I plant heavy enough should I be able to see fry eventually. Appreciate the information!
  16. What fish do you keep them in? A community setting or just like white clouds above them?
  17. So I was curious on how rare females are in Hillstream loaches. Should I buy more than 6 if I’m searching for a a pair or should that be enough to atleast get one female with luck. Just curious on other people’s experiences with this fish!
  18. Hi all, I am in need of replacing my light and I want an easy option I don’t have any demanding plants just low light ones ( anubias, Java fern, hornwort) I was curious if anybody has any shop lights or if I should just go with a Finnex stingray 48” I’m not too picky I have Finnex stingrays and love them, but wanna try maybe the super budget options that still grow plants I’m not afraid to scrub some algae;)
  19. Hi all, my ph ranges from 7.4-7.6 with harder water (260ppm+) I do not have a way to purchase any apistogramma locally. That being said I would like to breed something new to me and was curious if any like borelli, agassizii, or any other variations could actually breed in harder water.
  20. Hi all, just curious on everyone’s go to fish for the top part of the tank? Preferably peaceful fish!
  21. Hi all, I have seen many different preferences on what conditions for a tank to keep angelfish in and I’m curious on other people’s opinions. I have heard nothing under 18 in depth, 40 breeder is too shallow, a 29 is fine, but with all of this I am not looking for a community but maybe a pair and then a bottom feeder to clean up after them. What are ideal conditions for raising angelfish.
  22. Thank you very much exactly what I was looking for!
  23. Hi all, I am looking at a way to switch up my use of air and curious on when I should consider a Linear air piston pump a reasonable idea to possible cut down on electricity usage and to still provide air to my tanks. I have 6 tanks 3 being 10g a 20 tall a 35 and a 55 all having sponge filters. Any tips or info on the pump in this way is appreciated!
  24. Hi all, I am interested in keeping different fish than live bearers and actually have them breed. However, my water is hard like (300 ppm) and high ph 8. I’m not 100% sure, but have heard some species like panda corydoras and a lot of fish that prefer lower ph will live in hard water with high ph, but if they ever do spawn the eggs will be no good. And as I have researched a lot of fish I want to keep like a Apistogramma and rams prefer neutral to softer water. So my solution or potential would be to get a RODI system and mix with my water so that I could have a ton of success with other fish. Is this simply the most efficient route to go about my water? Or am I overlooking something simple.
