  1. @Guppysnail Thanks very much for posting the link to this post, very helpful indeed. Thanks again, amazing work and amazing article πŸ™‚
  2. This is amazing, great work and thank you all!! πŸ™‚
  3. I just ordered some Bacopa Caroliniana from the CO-OP. I'm going to try this Alum bath method for 24 hours when I get the plants. Thanks for the advice! πŸ™‚
  4. Ok, thanks πŸ™‚ I already use root tabs in the areas of the Java Ferns. I think I'll try going back to changing the water once every other week at ~30% every time instead of every week. Thanks for the plant suggestion also πŸ™‚
  5. Just tested my water with a test strip which is what I've always used. This is my first aquarium so I should probably invest in an API Master Test Kit, but, the test strip read that my Nitrate level is between 10 and 20 or so.
  6. I apologize. I didn't test my water last night after work. I will definitely test it tonight and post my Nitrate levels. Thanks again πŸ™‚ Cool! That's a great idea! I have very low lighting. Just two 5 or 10 watt bulbs that came with my Aqueon Basic 10-gallon aquarium kit from Petco.
  7. This is very cool! Looks amazing too! Thanks for the suggestion! πŸ™‚ Thanks for the suggestion! πŸ™‚ I dose one pump of Easy Green once a week right after my water change. I never thought about using plant weights for Java Fern. To just let them sit on top of a piece of decor or something you mean? Great idea! Thanks! πŸ™‚ Thanks for the suggestions on replacement plants πŸ™‚ I'll probably order some before the cold weather hits this year. Thanks for the plant suggestion! Also thanks for the advice on fertilizer! πŸ™‚
  8. Thanks for the response πŸ™‚ I do have a test kit but haven't tested in a while. I will be sure to test the water when I get home from work tonight and the lights in the aquarium are on. Thanks again πŸ™‚
  9. Beautiful!! This looks amazing!! Way better than my first aquascape πŸ™‚ I only have two groupings of Java Ferns. You did amazing!! πŸ™‚
  10. Hi everyone. I'm seeking advice on an easy to care for low light plant to replace my withering Java Fern groupings in my 10-gallon Dwarf Endler aquarium. The Java Ferns were originally bought at PetSmart and have been doing great for almost a year and a half until about a month ago when they really started to turn brown and yellow and melt. I may want to just replace them entirely. The only thing I've done different in the past month or so is change the water at my normal ~30% change every week instead of every other week. The fish seem happier but the plants have started to not do so well. By the way, my Java Ferns are in gravel and not glued to anything above the substrate. Do you all think if I just bought new Java Ferns and properly planted them i.e. Super Gluing them to something above the substrate they would do better? Preferably I was wanting to try a floating plant but I don't know if that's a good idea. Any suggestions on what plant to try, maybe one that does well in gravel or if I should just try Super Gluing new Java Ferns above the substrate, is very greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for any advice :)
  11. Hi @Doc Aquatic ! Welcome to the forum! That sounds awesome! πŸ™‚
  12. Thanks for the positivity πŸ™‚ I just hope over time it doesn't hurt or even kill my fish.
  13. Thanks so much for the fast response @lefty o, I hope not. I just tried looking for it again with my plant tweezers and I can't find it.
  14. I've never done it before, I've thought about ordering from the Co-Op because they take such great care etc. that I wouldn't worry that much about things like parasites or diseases from their plants. As for another website I can't say much other than I would quarantine the plants for a while, I've heard around two-weeks or longer for plant quarantines. I've also heard that giving the plants a salt bath during quarantine is a good measure for preventing the spread of any issues that may come with the plant. I'm sure other more experienced members of the forum will have better advice but just wanted to give you what I've heard πŸ™‚
  15. Hi everyone. So just a few minutes ago after I did my bi-weekly tank maintenance which is basically changing 25% of my water and gravel vaccing, something odd happened that may or may not be a huge deal. The tank for reference is a 10-gallon planted aquarium and I have some Java Ferns and three Dwarf Endlers. So, I usually put a half cap full of Fritz beneficial bacteria in the tank after adding back in dechlorinated water and after a good gravel vac. This time though I noticed a very small piece of what I'm pretty sure was the foil seal on the Fritz bottle made it into the tank water. I couldn't get to it before it sank to the bottom and now I can't find it. Will this kill my fish? Like if the foil seal corrodes or introduces metals into the water? Thanks very much in advance for any help/advice :)
  16. Thanks for the response! Well I already have a couple groupings of Java Ferns and will be plucking the off-shoots of reproducing Java Ferns to re-plant at some point. That's all I plan on having in this tank I think for now at least. I asked this question 1 because I've had to trim around 5 or 6 leaves that had melted away and was just wondering if CO2 would help the plants live and grow healthier. Also, I saw a Fluval CO2 kit on Petco's website for $35 and was thinking, hey if it's that affordable why not look into the benefits and risks of it lol πŸ™‚ If only the Co-Op would come out with a CO2 kit and refill cartridges for a good price I would of course buy it right away from them instead of the big box store. πŸ™‚
  17. That's awesome! How hot does it get?
  18. Welcome to the forum πŸ™‚ That's really cool that you used to collect wild fish!
  19. Hi everyone, I'm trying to find some advice on the benefits of a CO2 system in my 10 gallon planted aquarium. I know that CO2 can have great benefits for the plants, but is it 100% safe for the fish? I only have three Dwarf Endlers in the aquarium. I know that the CO2 should only be running when the lights are on, correct me if I'm wrong. So would that mean that if my lights are on from 1pm to 11pm that the CO2 should be running all or most of that time? Any advice is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance πŸ™‚
