  1. Hi, Thanks for your interest. Yes I did record the location where the survey was found, this was mainly used to asses the response rate for the survey. However I did run some comparisons between that and a couple of the questions with no association found between where the participant found the link and the question answer. There was however a number of differences between geographical location (see paper). I hope that helps πŸ™‚
  2. Thank you both, but I couldn't have done it without the fantastic engagement from the community.
  3. Hi Everyone, I am pleased to announce the publication of this work! The link to the paper can be found here https://doi.org/10.1016/j.aqrep.2023.101503 It is open access so everyone is able to read for free. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask πŸ™‚ Thank you to everyone who took part πŸ™‚
  4. Hi Val, Thanks for checking up to see how it is going. The results have not yet been published, I submitted back to the Editor some minor corrections this week but the manuscript has been accepted for publication so I should have something soon to share with everyone. The journal publishes online so there should be a pre-print copy available relatively quickly. The journal is also open access so it will be free for everyone to read. πŸ™‚
  5. Hi Everyone, Sorry for the Radio Silence it has been a very busy few months. I just wanted to keep you all updated on the progress of the study. The paper has been submitted to the journal, it has been approved by the Editor and has gone out to reviewers for peer review. This process normally takes a few months. I want to thank everyone, including the Forum owners for their assistance with this project. And I am looking forward to sharing the published work with you all soon!
  6. Just FYI there are two days left, if anyone still wishes to fill out the form
  7. 🀣 I appreciate the enthusiasm, Some studies occasionally try and add a prize aspect to try and increase numbers, but getting funding for that part and ethical approval is a little harder.
  8. Thank you very much, Please feel free to share the link with anyone you think might be interested πŸ™‚ The more responses I get the better my results will reflect the hobby as a whole.
  9. We are into the last 10 days that the Survey is live. I encourage anyone who still hasn't taken part, to do so if they wish before it's too late. On a happy note just over 5% of those who have interacted with or viewed the thread have taken part in the survey, which is above the average so thank you to everyone who has taken part so far! This still represents about 1% of registered users so, there is still room for many more responses! πŸ™‚ The response rate is the metric which will make or break this study, so I encourage all who can to take part!
  10. That is a common problem with social media surveys, Which often have lower response rates than interview or targeted surveys. But thank you both for completing it, greatly appreciated! πŸ™‚
  11. Yes you're right, Even if it is just a "No" in the fish breeding column and then anything you may want to add eg the vet question and you're done! πŸ™‚ Every response is valuable and having people who don't breed take it gets me a good sample size from the whole hobby so please don't let the title put you off taking it, I need a good representative sample from the whole hobby. I want to see how prevalent it is so if just people who breed fish take it, my estimate of how many fish are being produce by hobbyists is skewed because my samples are taken from just breeders.
  12. That's how I feel at the moment, trying to get people to take part 🀣
  13. Thanks Hobbit πŸ™‚ 15 days left for anyone still wanting to take part in the survey.
  14. Thank you both. I promise I wont be pestering you all much longer πŸ™‚
  15. Just wanting to keep this thread afloat a little. Thank you everyone for the great support! Approximately 2% of the forum members have filled out the survey (which is a typical response rate of social media surveys) However there is always room for more responses! The survey closes at the end of January so if you haven't already please consider taking 5 minutes to fill out the form. :)
  16. Thank you both. I really appreciate the encouragement.
  17. Hi Everyone,We are still looking for a number of responses to make this study statistically valid. We have just over 1 month left of the survey being live, so please if you haven't done so already consider taking 5 minutes to fill out the form.https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSekib6KJMiaNgtOAXUH_rvUv3obYGOFaUbUvGqzuWcd3u6r7w/viewform?usp=sf_link Thanks in Advance! This is an external study being allowed by the forum but not sponsored or supported by the forum itself.
  18. Hi Everyone, We are about half way through the time period of this study to be active. Good news is we are on track for this study to be the largest survey of fish hobbyists in the scientific literature (to my knowledge). So please, if you haven't already take 5 minutes to fill out the survey and help improve our understanding of the hobby! https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSekib6KJMiaNgtOAXUH_rvUv3obYGOFaUbUvGqzuWcd3u6r7w/viewform?usp=sf_link This is an external study being allowed by the forum but not sponsored or supported by the forum itself.
  19. Hi Everyone, A big thank you to all who have completed the survey so far! We are half-way to the minimum required number of respondents, so please if you haven’t yet responded please take a short moment to do so. We are looking for a wide range of experience, so if you keep fish, please take some time to fill out any question you can. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSekib6KJMiaNgtOAXUH_rvUv3obYGOFaUbUvGqzuWcd3u6r7w/viewform?usp=sf_link This is an external study being allowed by the forum but not sponsored or supported by the forum itself.
  20. Hi Everyone, Were are getting slowly to our goal. Thank you to everyone who has so far completed the survey. If anyone is still interested the link is here This is an external study being allowed by the forum but not sponsored or supported by the forum itself.
  21. Hi Ken, Apologies for the late reply. This survey is planned to be live for 6 months or "when a suitable number of responses have been collected". At the closing of the survey there will obviously be a lot of data analysis to do which I can't give a solid time frame for as that depends on the data. After analysis I can start giving talks etc, but a requirement of publication in academic journals is that the work is not published elsewhere first, so it will not be disseminated in written form until it has been published in an appropriate journal. The time frame of this varies but once submitted can take around 10 weeks for the peer review process. The results will be published in a suitable high level academic journal eg., Aquaculture, or Journal of fish biology etc. However I am endeavouring to make the publication open access so it is not hidden behind a paywall. I will also seek permission (from Mod's) to post the findings to this forum, as well as others, Facebook groups, magazines and hopefully talks and presentations. I am sorry I can't give an accurate time frame but I hope this helps, and if you have any more questions just le me know.
  22. Thank you for answering πŸ™‚ That's ok, any answers are greatly received. And there is only one compulsory question to account for varied experiences πŸ™‚
  23. Currently C.A.R.E is in 2nd, 11 responses behind 1st and 1 ahead of 3rd. (out of the Forums) Loving the friendly competition πŸ™‚
  24. Hi Everyone,Thank you to those who have responded, I am still looking for more responses, so if you haven't filled out the survey yet follow this linkThis is an external study being allowed by the forum but not sponsored or supported by the forum itself.
