  1. @Guppysnail They will hopefully be available early this spring I will remember to post on here and they will also be on Aquabid! here's another pic of the parents
  2. @mynameisnobody I use straight RO/Di keeps the PH around 6.5 they seem to thrive in those conditions
  3. @mynameisnobody do I have the update for you!!! The Fry are growing out quickly, recently they were moved into their grow out tank I have roughly 50-60 fry that are all around .25"-.5". The parents are currently courting I need to start lowering their PH again I bring it down to 5ph to get them breeding and as the fry grow out I have been letting it creep back into the high 6's. I haven't tried transitioning to Tap water yet mostly because they already need such low PH's and low TDS and my water is harder than a rock.... I'll try and remember to use the forums more I am mostly on my Instagram posting updates!
  4. @Beardedbillygoat1975funny you say that! I actually got this pair from him! I know him from Instagram, I was luckily enough to be crazy about that genus right when he started to share his online and I was always keeping a tank open ready to accept them! they are an amazing fish I can't wait to get these fry growing out and sending them to more breeders!
  5. @anewbie they seem to be less aggressive but unsure if they are actually to other fish though
  6. Hey everyone! I got my pair of ivanacara bimaculata about 3-4 weeks ago been wanting these fish for over a year since I laid my eyes in them! These have been a huge part of my hobby I’ve been keeping ivanacara adoketa for over a year but getting the second species has been a dream!!! After keeping them and slowly dropping their PH to 5.2 and boom breeding! I’ll keep this thread updated as the fry grow out but I love these fish and am extremely excited to get these growing out and sharing with others! Here’s also a pic of their breeding tank
  7. This is how the lights look at 100% with a pretty tinted blackwater tank but honestly great coverage I love the way it looks! also have a 48inch on the shelf underneath so it kinda shows how bright it is above the 15's with how it looks on the 80 gallon both at 100%.
  8. hello followers! another decently large update!!! Starting off with the Rack itself the 80 is on I have added in the middle shelf and added 2 15's! These will work as my QT and Grow out tanks for now and might end up turning one into a spawning tank for the hendra or the ivanacara! also made some lids for these with just 2 pieces of glass each covering each other and adding a little handle on the front! Now for the 80 rio negro biotope! it is fully scaped and I have 25 cardinals coming in as well as 12 corydoras adolfi in the coming weeks! they will probably sit in the QT tanks at first to allow me to view them make sure they are looking good but then I will be adding them to the main tank! I am using manzanita wood for the root structure and then the river side I have umbrella grass planted with a small dashing of leaf litter and some larger seed pods to cover up the spongefilters! Borneo bowl hasnt had much to update on but it is looking good and the hendra are really starting to come out more and show off their colors! Ill post some gifs down belwo of these little guys! hope y'all enjoyed this update!!!
  9. Update on the Borneo Bowl! Its been a couple weeks since I last updated this thread and I have all the inhabitants of this tank! I got my 15 chili rasboras which are thriving they have been in the tank and eating for about a week and a half doesnt seem I have lost any they are finally shoaling and foraging around in a more natural manner! The other inhabitants came in on tuesday and are acclimating beautifully. They were extremely skittish and hid the first couple days but are finally coming out and getting a little bit more natural color! The Betta Hendra pair Rosie and Sam (shown below) will only get better over time and hopefully I'll be seeing some breeding colors soon and some more comfortable activities in the tank!
  10. like I promised I got a pretty big update on the Office Fish room! last week I got my Betta hendra pair for the Borneo bowl and the week prior I also got my 15 Chili rasboras which all are doing great eating and exploring the tank! here are the chilis! really coloring up and shoaling is really cool around and in the log. This is Rosie and Sam the Betta hendra pair. They are acclimating well to the new tank and hopefully in no time I will get some breeding behavior. Also I have finally filled the 80 with sand and added the leaf litter in yesterday! Hopefully next week I will be getting my hardscape and will be able to finally really get this tank finished and coming together! after the leaf litter was added I’ll be adding more after the hardscape is in! Hope yall like this update and I will be posting more of the 80 when I finally get the hardscape going!
  11. I will be doing a large blackwater scape with the 48inch light ill make sure to post my findings with that idea in mind!
  12. I just got the 48 inch light for my 48x24x16 80 gallon and boy does it light up the entire thing! The spread is crazy! I’ll post another pic after I fill this bad boy later today hopefully
  13. So I just bought a RO buddie DI 50 GPD for my little fish room, I have a 15gal desk tank, a 13 gal bowl and a 80 gal tank that I am setting up and I think that'll be plenty for my needs, depends I guess how patient you wanna be about getting water for you tanks? I can wait for 50 gals I have plenty of buckets and time so I feel like 50 would be plenty for just your 20 but I guess that is up to you.
  14. Big update!!! I have moved into my new apartment and that means I finally have my own office thus room for more tanks!!!!!! I have planned a new rack that is holding my QT tank and my newest addition being a 80gal! It is 48x24x16 and will likely be a rio negro biotope that my ivanacara will be moved into with a whole host of new species I will be keeping! QT tank with filters cycling! rack and 80gal! The other big project that was mentioned in my last update on here is the Borneo Bowl! It does have it own update journal page but its always good to mention it when talking about my entire hobby as it is right now! I have it planted with a bunch of crypts and a ton of Buceaphalandra! This 13 gallon bowl aquarium will be holding a pair of betta hendra and a small shoal of chili rasboras probably 10-12 chilis! Borneo Bowl in its amber glow! The hendra pair I will be keeping’ last but not least the desktop tank! The ivanacara are currently still in this tank until I can get the 80 filled and cycling but once its all good to go this tank will be getting a huge rescape and home to a super fun new species I have really wanted to keep! The desk tank will be home to 15 nannostomus sp “super red cenepa”! I am very excited to see if I can get them breeding and sold locally! ivanacara readjusting! new haphazard scape! Very temporary That is my update for now! More will be coming as the 80 gets filled and scaped as well as the Borneo bowl getting its new inhabitants!
  15. @lefty o I think that might be the case I’d just leave it empty and grab a bigger piece and get it cut just sucks might be wasting a lot to gain an inch 🥲
  16. Alright so I need help…. I have this rack that can handle 1500 lbs and it’s 48x24x48, I got 2 custom rimmed tanks that are 48x24x16, unfortunately with the rim the are more around 49x25x17. It doesn’t quite fit on the rack by centimeters. I have a piece of 3/4 inch hardwood plywood underneath the tank as shown here there is some over hang on this tank but the inner of the rim are held by the plywood I’m just a little worried about the overhang… should I go buy a new piece of plywood to cover the over hang or am I making this a bigger deal than it is???
  17. It happened! It has been filled! The Borneo biotope has been filled and has a filter and heater in there! The goal is to let this tank sit for a week and then I will start testing the water, the sponge filter is a pre-cycled filter so hopefully it’ll jump start the cycling process! here are some pictures over the last few days of it being filled! This is night of being filled this was the next day! and this is it today in all it’s dark murky glory! my goal is for it to clear up but I also want a very deep red water color for this tank as it’s representing the peat moss swamps in Borneo which are known for being a deep deep red color water! I’ll keep this thread updated weekly unless there’s something cool happening! Hopefully fish will be coming in the coming weeks!
  18. Big update!!! I have officially moved in to our new apartment and that means….. THE BOWL IS GOING TO BE FILLED!!!! Tomorrow…. When the stand is moved from the old house 😅 BUT it has been planted! This is before: this is after: The plants are a bunch of buceaphalandra species and a few smaller crypts! Hopeful that everything grows in and nothing dies off completely…. Never kept buce so wish me the best and any tips to keeping them alive are needed! also stocking for this tank has kind of shifted! I have a friend in the hobby who is moving out of the country and I will be the keeper of his Betta hendra pair!!! they have bred for him and hopefully they will enjoy this new tank! I have a couple months to get this tank nice and ready before he’ll be sending over to me! I’ll post an update tomorrow of the tank filled!!!!
  19. LACK OF SPACE FOR NEW TANKS! without a house living in apartments makes it really hard to have lots of fish and tanks.....
  20. Good Idea I will buy and extra sheet probably in that case as I do plan to put plywood on all the shelves!
  21. no worries about it being on the second floor, the new place I am moving too is a single story town home, I know alot of people secure bookshelving to walls to make sure that nothing ever moves so I was thinking the same but it might be over kill... I am also probably just paranoid with it being my first rack I'm sure it will be safe and fine as I am not even going to be close to pushing the limits of this rack which is probably the safer route
  22. I am moving in May and starting to look into setting up a rack for this new place. my idea is using a Gladiator Shelf that is 48"x72"x24" and I am planning to put 4 15's on top, 4 15's on the second shelf and 2 40 Breeders on the other 2 shelves leaving the bottom shelf for storage of some other things, might consider a middle rack being my storage shelf with the 40's being the bottom 2 shelves. It will also be secured to the wall and on a level tile laminate floor. Has anyone used these shelves? they seem sturdy and I wouldn't even be close to maxing out their weight limits. I would be putting plywood that is sealed on every shelf just wanted more opinions on this as I am not experienced and this will be my first rack. please let me know what you guys think about this?
  23. I thought the same and often aren’t sizable enough to really keep anything fun but I’m trying to end the stigma 😂 This will be a journal of the process totally! Also the crypts I’m going to be using wild versions for the buceaphlandra and crypts! I’m really trying to get it right. This project will be stalling out a little till the end of may but I’ll do an updated once it’s moved and filled up!
  24. Welcome everyone to my latest project! This will be an on going thread of my new boreno bowl biotope aquarium! First off I’m choosing a rather controversial aquarium being a take on the betta bowls everyone cringes at and super sizing this build. This tank is a 13gal bowl with a 19inch diameter and is 16inchs tall. I’m going to be using an aquarium co-op medium sponge filter and an aquarium co-op heater. With this being a boreno biotope I will be keeping a pair of betta apiapi and possible a small shoal of chili rasboras. The plants for this tank will all be native from boreno peat swamps being buceaphlandra and cryptocornes. The substrate is a base layer of peat with a mix of cutch and cinnamon bark and a mash of different species of leaves. As shown below my mixture! This is my latest dry run of the tank laying out my hardscape and botanicals into the bowl. I will not have this tank filled until I move in may but will keep everyone posted through this thread when an update arises! Hope y’all enjoy this project as I dive into the world of biotopes and bettas!
  25. Hello everyone! I am back! It’s been a while hadn’t realized I hadn’t updated this since July!! A lot has changed!! I got rid of the inhabitants of this tank and have dove into a whole new adventure! I sold my cardinal tetras and apistogramma Agassizii for a pair of Ivanacara adoketa! this is my newest breeding project for the desktop aquarium! I received these guys a week before thanksgiving and they were extremely skiddish for months! Over the last month and a half they have come to life accepting food from my hand and constantly out and about! This is my true black water tank with a ph in the 6 - 5.5 range consistently and I switched to using only RO water for this tank! I am also working on a new project that will be done in the summer, it’s a boreno biotope tank that’s I’ll feature plants from boreno peat swamps, a pair of wild bettas from the area and possibly a shoal of chili rasboras! It’ll be a 13 gal bowl that’s pictured below! I will have an entire post when this is up and going to explain my entire process but I am soooo very excited for this tank! Hope y’all enjoyed this update and will stay tuned!
