If I place it outside my fish room, is that problematic? If it’s outside the room but in the uninsulated garage will it essentially pump cold or hot air?
-
It’s ok if they get wet but I make minimal mess normally

That’s probably a better solution so I don’t have to sink a huge fastener. It’s highly unlikely a child can bring it down but if you have small children you can understand the disasters they are capable of.

Update i prematurely said I was done with the stands. I have to level and shim them. I intended on painting and staining but after much thought I realized that I don’t personally care. This room is for me and my children to enjoy, the build thread is just a loose way I can share some of the experience. I’m only mildly handy but certainly have a passion for the hobby. A fish room that’s less than 60sq feet is crazy but entirely doable. i want to screw these racks into the wall, I have some 6~ inch hex screws that would be perfect. I think it would add extra stability and safety having little ones around. rather than staining last night I elected to cut foam board I got from hobby lobby. It was easy and fixed any twisting my racks had, Minus 1 20 long rack it’s not super plum front to back. I’m able to get all 4 corners level with a door shim under foam board which isn’t what I dreamed of doing but I believe is a sufficient solution. Small rimmed aquariums like a 20 long only really need the corners supported anyway. I love the look of the white bottom. I also pulled all but 3 of the 23 aquariums I bought at the last DPG sale out of my rafters and cleaned them. I used windex don’t tell the fish police! LOL. It’s gonna be a few weeks before I have any inhabitants and I will have to do leak testing and such. Otherwise I don’t let the stuff near my aquarium or I at most spray a paper towel with it a room away to avoid over spray. I still need to buy 4 ten gallons

Getting burnt out and scared to look at my check book right now. I will be in it for about 3k when said and done. But to be honest the last reef tank I kept was that much to just start and it was only 42g and not top of the line anything. It’s an investment. I’m freaking out, this is a dream come true

Made huge progress today. Got all 4 racks done. Haven’t decided if I’m going to paint or stain. Honestly I don’t care about that. I also decided to not paint the aquariums. Room is a dark gray so that’s a sufficient background. I’m resting all the aquariums in white foam board and that’s also pleasing to me as a bottom. Most the aquariums will be bare bottom initially, minus the corydoras tanks. garage is slightly bumpy and unlevel. Using door shims for leveling and I intend on fastening the racks to the wall with at least 2 points of contact. I trust my work but I will activately include my 3 children in the room so I want to eliminate any chance of an accident. My rails aren’t super level so I hope the foam boards will allow even contact on the corners, if not I will go from there. Likely sanding would be next step. stay tuned!

I plan on doing species myself. I’m probably going to do 3-4. Any harm in starting them in 10s!
-
To come back to your comment again quickly the rubber mats are great but not when it’s 30 feet worth of tanks LOL. I will get all the tanks wet for awhile before I have inhabitants
-
Going to get a bit of foam today and call it good. I’ve built stands and the biggest was a 125. Going to see what the arts and crafts store has for styrofoam first if not the dollar store foam boards are sufficient
-
I can’t wait to start spoiling some corydoras. Do you do any cold water changes and if so what kind of difference. Also, what sand you keeping them on?
-
I’m on the finishing stages of a room 27 new aquariums. I’d like to cover my cost eventually
-
Great. Would you say 6 is generally a good start for most corys? I have 6 empty 20 longs I’d like to try a few different types
-
I had a good idea initially I believe with flooring foam underlayment but then it occurred to me dollar tree sells big sheets of foam board that’s kind of chunky that would work well. At least I think lol. also it would be easier to spray paint board than 27 aquariums
-
You have success with them? What size breeding group do you like to start with? Thanks for the feedback
-
What are some easy corys to breed and raise fry?
-
Pretty fish for sure. Good looking dude. What size tank you keeping him in?

I will! I hope to get all 4 stands done tomorrow I will report back.

Not certain I didn’t take enough time to fidget. Basically a 10 gallon on the top rack rocked ever so slightly. Not sure if it was a discrepancy between the two rails or the aquarium.
