  1. So moving on, I watched one of Cory`s videos about contaminated tanks and he said to put a crazy amount of salt in it and turn the heat up to 100 and leave that for about 1 week, then rinse and do it again. Dose anyone have any input on this?
  2. So tonight when I got home from work the last of my eight African cichlids died, I drained the tank put everything outside so I can sterilize things this weekend, I put the two Plecos in a 10 gallon quarantine tank and I’ll continue to monitor their condition but they seem fine still. I double checked the pH level before draining the water and it was 7.95
  3. I have a digital tester and the PH in the tank reads 7.8, 7.9. I have several other tanks and keep good water perimeters so I feel like I can manage a good balance, maybe this fish species is just out of my experience level.
  4. So I had 8 cichlids and 2 bristle nose plecos in the tank and after 2 courses of metronidazole and have lost all but one cichlid and the plecos. 😓 So at this point my question is should I take out the 3 remaining fish and put them in a different cycled tank? What do I do with the 125 now?
  5. Just wanted to add a little more information, the tank is 125 gallon long, there are 6 African cichlids and two bristle nose plate those that are babies, all of the African cichlids are still juvenile, We have done water test with the API test kit and all levels are perfect with everything. Four yellow labs and three have died so far, the fish in the photo has both cloudy eyes, and another one has one cloudy eye. The tank has been running for approximately one month. It has a 4x canister filter and a sponge filter, we lightly sprinkle in African Cichlid pellets two times a day, approximately a teaspoon each time. I gravel vac 25% water change once a week. We have eight other aquariums that have absolutely no issues. The tank in the photo is the one on the right that’s having the issues
  6. My fish are dying and they have cloudy eyes? What is happening???
  7. I did a post on a local fish group and have some interested people, so hopefully I can get them a home
  8. Ugh I don’t know what to do with them
  9. I don’t know what this is and someone gave me 6 of them, I don’t know anything about them
  10. I thought that the softener water (salty water) would be harmful to them.
  11. We are moving into our new house and I need some advice asap, I don't know which way to go here. The new home is hooked up to a water softener, we can bypass it with some slight modifications, we are also on well water. I brought some of my fish over last night and I brought there water with them. I don't know if I should use the softener water? the well water directly? The well or a bypass is all cold water and will take a long time to heat up. I have only tested the waters ph at this point and both well and softener are about 7.2ish. all my fish are in temporary 10 -30 gallon tanks until I get the big tanks filled, but I don't know what to do, I'm in serious stress mode here.
  12. I have 2 of these and I can not remember what the LFS told me they are. I love them! they are funny active curious small and just fun to watch. Thank you
  13. I feed a couple different things in a weeks time. twice they get frozen brine shrimp. Extreme flakes (I just started to offer), tiny hikari vibra bites. sometimes I also give tiny dried shrimp, I offer zucchini to my plecos, I just got some community repashy also. its a community tank with lots of fish that can eat different sizes and things. he has looked at all of this and don't have any interest in any of it.
  14. No I really have not noticed anything odd. I am always worried about him and always keeping a close eye on him
  15. I purchased two baby red shoulder severums at the same time/place about 4 months ago. One of them was bullying the other one so after a few days of getting them I removed the bully into my peaceful 75 gallon planted tank until I could get him his own home. The severum that was the bullied one never really came out from hiding and died shortly after. I would say it lived about one month from the time I purchased him. So now it has been about 4 months and they bully severum has not grown at all. For awhile I thought he was going to die because he looked pale with his stripes barley showing and hid and never ate. In the last two months he has gotten his colors back his black stripes look great he comes out all the time now. He seems interested in food and try's to get some but spits it back out. I feed him in his own space to help encourage him to eat. I assume he is getting something because he is still alive, but he has not grown at all since the day I brought him home. You can see in the photo that he is out at feeding time. All of the other fish in this tank are in perfect health. He is still only about 1 inch in size, I don't know why he wont grow. Any suggestions?
  16. This our four aquariums we currently have. Just got done doing a 10% water change with the new attachment my hubby made 😊
  17. I am so excited to share our fish keeping journey. My husband and I live in MN in a rental house and just made a purchase agreement on a home. We are currently in a cramped one bedroom rental and have 4 fish tanks. Our landlord said no cats/dogs so we decided to get a small 29 gallon fish tank and life has not been the same since. We, (but mostly me) are addicted now. I currently have a 20, 40, 75, & 125. I recently found a guy selling all his fish room tank/equipment so I made him an offer and we got 15 tanks from him in various sizes from 10 to 125 gallons. Our new home is much bigger and is a split level. I have already been trying to design on paper something in the lower level so we have an idea of where to put a few tanks right off. I am nervous about moving my 4 tanks and making sure everyone survives the event. We plan on keeping our rental an extra month so we wont be rushed. I want to set up 4 new tanks and get them cycled then move the fish over. Any ideas would be welcome. The new house is only about 40 minutes from our rental. I will post our journey as we move through this process.
  18. Can I please get some advice, I just purchased several different types of the Extreme fish foods. I was so excited to start feeding this better food to my fish! but apparently my fish are not so excited about it. Once I put some in each (4) tank they all seem to come up like they are starving like usual but take a bite and spit it back out, they look like, what the heck is this??? Should I keep trying to offer this to them (like eat it or go hungry) or just give them what they are used to, (like cheap pet store flake/pellets) Just a note that the fish within the 4 tanks are angels/geos/platys/rams/rainbows/blue acai/severum/neons/tetras/rummy nose, and a flowerhorn tank. so just basic fish that should eat it. thank you
