I just posted a video where I show off my new fish room and talk about all my breeding projects. Already posted it under my photo journal so I feel a bit silly posting it here as well, but it's a cool look into what I'm doing and what progress I've made.

    For a quick run down:
I am working on a new kind of guppy. I want to make "Koi Guppy" that look like actual koi. those are in the pond in the video. I have got the orange spots on white body, but want to go for calico.

I'm also trying to get "Santa Clause" guppy's. I started with one and random females, and what I have now is the 3rd tank.

Then there is my newest fish, the Pseudomugil Luminatus (blue eye neon red rainbow fish) Just got the males 2 days ago. Super excited about this.

I am likely to start a 3rd guppy breeding program with some of my culls who have got this BEAUTIFUL emerald green color to them now.

We have a pea puffer trio who we someday hope will have babies someday

I will be doing a Pygmy cory breeding tank in the next month or so

and I have several neo-Caridinia breeding programs revolving around my Main line of blue diamonds.

Just curious where did you get your Pseudomugil Luminatus?

You could keep over 20 of CPD in a 20 gallon, even more. They are tiny fish. They are egg scatters so you would need to provide a spawning surface which you could pick the eggs from or leave them with parents to hatch and grow up (this will decrease the number of surviving fry). They are relatively easy to breed otherwise

Killifish are eggs scatters as well, similar requirements as the CPDS. The amount of fish that can be kept together varies depending on the species. You could keep more than a dozen rocket killifish in that size tank.

I recommend doing more research about the species before deciding to breed them.

Ok, I'll do soem digging around. Do you breed CPDs at all?

    Love this!

    I’d suggest trying a cool water U. S. Natives tank. What about…

    (1) Rainbow Shiners

    (2) Valisneria Americana

    (3) … I’m still figuring this last one out myself … trying Darters, maybe

Ooo! Thank you very much! How large of a tank?

  4. Hey all, I made a more specific post a few months back of suggestions for breeding combos with specific fish.

I want to maximize profit for my tanks, I have mainly 10 gallons and 20 highs. I keep.

    guppies

    Cories

    Mollies

    Ricefish

    Shell dwellers

    Limias

    Goodeids

    And things of that sort.

I want to have all my tank just as aquarium co-op's breeding for profit article says (10-20 gallon, guppies, cherry shrimp, and java moss) The article also mentions apistos with java moss. I am looking for some suggestions of other breeding combos for a 10 gallon or 20 gallon. Fish that can live together and breed peacefully, good plants and potentially shrimp for that tank too.

    Let me know any ideas/

Bigger the tank the better. I always make a point to not attempt breeding in tanks less than 10 gallons, and if I can 20's. Smaller tanks fluctuate a lot with parameters, and when you're working on breeding you want to keep up with feeding heavy meals of good foods (not over feed, but just enough to keep weight on the fish.) With a heavy food intake you're going to get a lot of waste output. Vacuuming substrate or bare bottoms takes a lot more water than most think, so keeping up with the waste means you're going to be doing decent water changes. Small changes in a big tank are big changes in a small tank, if that logic makes sense.

Ok, thank you. I didn't feel right putting them in a small tank, but the breeder said they'd be fine. Just wanted some insight from fellow nerms

Personally I believe that shell dwellers neeed a bigger footprint than a 10 gal.  They like to redecorate their tanks to their liking and when breeding have staked out territories.  Even if you start with just 2 you will have more...a lot more soon...LOL

    Just my thoughts

Ok, I plan on pulling the babied to grow seperatley but what would be good in a 20?

  7. Hey all

I am looking to do a second shell dweller tank. Currently have a 10g multi tank. Even thugh we have 80+ tanks most of mine are 10-20 gallons or discus tanks because I generally work with the small fish with small spawns. I want to do another 10g shell dweller tank but don't know what kind of shellies. Not many in a 10. I heard the occelatus pair can be in a 10. I am really curious to see what size for Neolamprologus Ornatipinnis Kigoma.

My questions to all the shell dweller breeders are....

    What species do you breed

What size tank do they need

    How many in that tank

And any other info you have (Like where I may be able to find some)

I may be able to do a 20 but I would love some ideas for my 10g

  8. It could be possible. I have dalmation mollies that are almost all black with a little white and a lot of the babies came out "flipped" (more white with black spots)

Not sure what makes a midnight ram (I assume gold ram is in the genes) so the lighter ones may be gold rams or midnight waiting on their color!

Sorry I couldn't be more help!

  9. Hi all! I was wondering if anybody has breed bloodfin tetras. If so here are my questions...

    How to breed them

How to tell male and female

    How to induce to breed

How to tell after female has released eggs

    How long until eggs hatch

When to take her out (Overnight?)

I have my account setup, but I haven't set up to stream yet.  I have two monitors.   I'm looking for a camera now that will capture underwater footage I can stream, so externally powered.   I'll let you know what I end up going with!

I do follow a few Twitch streamers, and we have a good time talking fish in the stream.

    Awesome thank you!
