  1. We just added a piece of cholla wood yesterday that came from an established tank. So far, they have been swimming around and exploring the Java moss mesh wall in the back
  2. Our new shrimp are here! Drip acclimating seemed to go well, and the shrimp have been added to the tank. Already they seem so much healthier than the last batch we got from the bad sellers. Fingers crossed that they continue to thrive!
  3. We have two cats as well, and have had one of them for 14 years. We just got into the fishkeeping hobby, and I cannot stress how much our cats JUST. DON'T. CARE. They can easily reach any of the three nano tanks that we have, and they just don't even bother going near them. They don't appear to understand that there are actual food in there. I would say just make sure you have lids in case the cats get curious.
  4. As our green neon tetras are also slow eaters, we have started crushing up the micro pellets with a pill crusher. The pieces are still slow sinking, which gives them time to grab them, but now the pieces are smaller so they can eat them easier. Also, we do give them fry food as well.
  5. I told @GameCzarthat I picture him running around with his tentacles waving going "OH NOES!!" everytime. He doesn't get in the stream at all, but he doesn't like the new water changes at all either. His big thing is temperature, so I either have to leave the water sitting out for hours to let it be the exact same temp as his water, or I can drip add it so it doesn't shock him. Seriously, the first time I just poured water back in his tank, I thought I had killed him. Diva? Definitely
  6. My betta loves to play in the water stream too, we call it his "shower time". My mystery snail, Fred, on the other hand, acts like Chicken Little when you add water back to the tank (the sky is falling, the sky is falling). He is overly dramatic and acts like it is torture unless we drip add it back in so slowly he doesn't notice lol
  7. Also, Amazon frogbit is great for bettas too. Both those and the spangles were big hits with our betta, who liked to hide in the roots and pretend we couldn't see him... (spoiler alert: we could still see him)
  8. I have had really good luck with anubias, and the nana petite for sure. Also, water spangles (salvinia minima) make GREAT floaters for the smaller tanks, although they can spread fast, so you have to watch them. Also, java moss gives a lot of cover. Nice tanks, by the way 🙂
  9. I was just thinking that if there was a way to do a virtual tank on the computer to where customers could set up various plants that the coop sells and see what they would look like when grown, I bet it would help sell plants. Customers could play around with placement and types based on some standard tank sizes, and then when they get the look they like, they could add to cart and buy from aquarium coop... Is such a thing a crazy thought?
  10. After someone, I think @ARMYVET (maybe) mentioned a vase with a snail in it, I am obsessed with this idea. I have a sister in law that just really wants a snail, and I am trying to think of a good set up... but I have questions. 1. What kind of snail would live best in a 1 gallon-ish vase? 2. What kind of plants would do well in there? 3. Would it need a lid? 4. What about air stone? How does it do gas exchange? I would like to get it all set up and present it as a finished product for her, so I would welcome any and all suggestions....
  11. Such a beauty! Good on you for rescuing him!
  12. Of course he has, you seasoned his food for him last time 😆
  13. No clue, just named them after old black and white movie stars. Still honestly don't have a clue about fred either
  14. Our new black racer nerites.... Bela (top) and Boris (bottom)
  15. Snails are the best! Definitely keep
  16. Well I say we got two nerites. We have one that immediately came out of his shell and is eating algae like a preacher at a potluck, and the other one who hasn't let go of his brother's shell since I put them in the tank 🤣
  17. This post has made me very happy. I love snails! Matter of fact, we just got back from picking up 2 nerites to help Fred out with some algae. Got some black racers
  18. Mystery snails are not great at algae eating. They will eat algae wafers sometimes but it isn't their primary diet. Now, nerites on the other hand, they love the algae.
  19. We have green neon tetras and they will investigate Fred's food, but they don't mess with it
  20. I use a feeding tube down to a dish, and use sinking foods. The food goes down the tube and settles in the dish, and the tetras in the tank with fred don't mess with it. I guess it depends on the other tank mates
  21. Fred says hello back. He is two months old, likes long walks around the tank, enjoys fine dinners of crab cuisine, and often enjoys an after dinner snack of water spangles. He hasn't stopped growing yet lol
