  1. Those are adorable! Do they need live food, or would freeze dried work?
  2. We need some ideas, people! We have a 3 gallon tank that is standing empty. We don't want to go with another betta, and we have done Celestial Pearl Danios before, so we would like something a little different. We have a shrimp colony in another tank, and snails everywhere. Another constraint is that we don't have ready access to live food, so peapuffers would be difficult. Any ideas? The empty tank is sad, and we want to bring it back to life!
  3. Come on.... we all have them. That one tank that is amazing, that grows plants like nobody's business, that the fish love, that the shrimp love, that just thrives.... but it is ugly. So we never share pictures of them, because they don't LOOK the way we want them to. We don't find them pretty enough to share. So I thought I would make a place where we could share our ugly tanks that rock. I will introduce ours... please show me yours! Meet our 5 gallon, acrylic, curved tank that was part of a kit. It never looks clean, it always has algae, we can never get the substrate nice looking.... but this tank rocks. Plants thrive in here, plants that die in any other tank. (I mean, just look at that anubias in there) Our cherry shrimp LOVE this tank, and are always moving about and active. Our green neons LOVE this tank, and have done very well, and stayed healthy. This tank never seems to have parameter problems, but we never share pictures of it. Why? Because it isn't the prettiest, but if I am being honest, it is our best functioning tank.
  4. Aquaman, ruler of the 7 seas, and King of the Themyscira tank, wanted to say hello 🙂
  5. Do they need to be kept together or are they okay more solitary?
  6. This was always one of my favorite stories about Mister Rogers: Mister Rogers would narrate himself feeding the fish each episode with 'I’m feeding the fish' because of a letter he received from a young blind girl who was worried the fish were hungry. The fish story appears in "Dear Mister Rogers, Does it Ever Rain in Your Neighborhood?" a collection of letters received by Rogers from children throughout his career, and his replies. The book reads: "One girl and her family wrote to tell us there was a special reason why she wanted me to talk about feeding the fish each day." "Dear Mister Rogers, Please say when you are feeding your fish, because I worry about them. I can’t see if you are feeding them, so please say you are feeding them out loud. Katie, age 5." "(Father’s note: Katie is blind, and she does cry if you don’t say that you have fed the fish.)"
  7. I chose my username because what else would the wife of the Czar be called? Lol
  8. This is really cool! I love the way you did the exploding wall
  9. Thank you! I tried to do exactly that, I wanted a tank that comic nerds would appreciate the references but that non comic people would just like the tank for the visual
  10. I love the name! But then again, we are also nerds with an entire Wonder Woman themed Themyscira tank, so of course I love the name!
  11. We have two cats, but they are both spoiled cats with first world problems. They will watch a lizard run across the floor right in front of their nose and then look at me like "you gonna do something about that" The only thing they care to hunt is to find where I hid the treats this time lol
  12. Haha! I thought about breeding plecos, but I honestly have no where to give them to if we had a bunch of babies. We don't have a LFS that we could take them to or anything
  13. The males will get redder as they get older. The females are usually an orangish-red lighter color from what I understand
  14. He is for now 🙂 we have plans to add nerites if needed. Oh, and there are also some bladder snails in there
  15. Annnnnd..... just like that, another female dropped fry. We netted them into the grow out tank with the surprise babies. Our estimate is a total of 25-30 babies right now. We saved as many from the main tank as we could see. Have to check again once the tank calms down some.
  16. Update time! First we have an updated picture of the tank as a whole. The plants have started to grow in, and we added some hornwort in the back corner. Aquaman finally showed up to do some maintenance on the jet. It is the first time I have seen him on it, but hey, it is invisible, so I shouldn't be surprised it took him this long to locate it. The chilis (I call them my amazons) wouldn't stay still so it was hard to get a good photo of them. But they are also very curious, so a couple came right up to the glass to say hello 🙂
  17. For the record, guppy fry will also chase the red dot too, just not as vigorously lol
  18. In a bit of sad news, though, out of the 8 guppies we got from Petco on Wednesday, we have 3 left. They were fine the first couple days, and then within a day we lost 5 of them. So no more guppies from Petco for us. We lost the platinum one, Ivory, but we still have his brother, Ebony. We have two of the females left, but sadly lost both the mosaics. I know fish die sometimes, and I know big box stores are a gamble, but man, the last couple days have been rough. We really needed those surprise fry to lift our spirits, so they came at just the right time. I THINK they came from one of the females we lost, honestly.
