There are different species of amano in themselves — I have Australian amanos and they make the Japanese amanos look tiny! But to answer your question there are bigger freshwater shrimp than amanos... like vampire, bamboo, and banana shrimp 🙂 I feel like what happened here is your tank didn’t have time to mature — also shrimp need to be acclimated differently than fish. Did you drip acclimate them? Did you just plant it, add water, and put everything in?

So he’s alone in a 1 gallon with an air stone. He’s been holding on for 3 days — I can see he wants to live and I want to help him. I ordered meth blue too as I saw some said that can help too 🙂 what do you recommend for a treatment with a 1 gallon? I could do a 3 gallon tank but the fish really struggles with swimming so I thought less water volume was best

I think my cat swiped this swordtail causing an injury and leading to the fungus growth. All other fish in my 60 are fine so I have no idea what would’ve caused this, the cat is the only thing I can think of. The fish has been isolated for a few days and I’m treating with ich-x (for the malachite green) and aquarium salt. He is still alive albeit just floating all over the tank. Any tips for treatment? I manually removed the fungus because I felt terrible for the poor fish.

I am not saying this is advisable but I do keep a single neon in an unheated tank and the fish does fine/thrives. Why do I only have one? Because they're way too finicky for me and I had a die off and this was the lone survivor, 8+ months later s/he is still thriving by themselves. The fish is really just a beast.

I am at a loss!!! Take a look at this koi platy...struck down by something like epistylis, I have been treating with both kanaplex and metroplex (separately) for over two weeks with food. Everyone’s eating. Is this a disease I am missing? I literally cleaned the entire tank already, took everything out, scrubbed it, vacuumed...why isn’t this clearing up? I am absolutely losing my mind. Other fish in the tank don’t seem to be affected (hard to see on the albino corys) and one of my three dojos has a few visible spots

But melafix treats bacterial infections and pimafix treats fungal infections so together they’re sort of a general cure med, no? I’m pretty confused, I thought these meds were good... my issue is I want to treat this tonight and Amazon can’t get me Kanaplex until Friday 😞 I don’t want my fish to die before then....

Limited on stores around me so Petsmart it was. Only could get my hands on melafix and pimafix. Trying to treat epistylis and probably a secondary infection like columnaris. I know you can soak food in something like Kanaplex, can I do the same with these meds? Have you done it? Experiences please

Yeah I just don’t have a QT tank set up so I’d have to dose ich x in my community tank and it’s just a mess with dying things blue (I have seiryu stone) I’m at a loss 😩 I wanted to see if the ich would go away on its own with the high temps for a week or so

Hi all, had some ich develop in my tank after adding a few new fish. Didn’t have issues for a few days but now all new fish (a few tetras and three platys) have various stages of the parasite. I want to try to treat naturally, aka no meds. I have read about just increasing the temp to 86, exhausting the ich’s life cycle etc, but the thought of shocking my fish from the high temp is terrifying me. I love my fish and I would be heartbroken if I cooked ‘em. in the tank: 3 dojos, 3 neon tetras, 5 cories, 3 platys, some shrimp and snails. Only fish affected with ich are the tetras and platys (new fish). I’m actually amazed my other fish never seem to get it... who has kept dojos at this temp for 2 weeks? Anyone?
