  1. Okay so attempt #2 much better success! My angels laid again Wednesday before last. I have about 25 swimmers now! The water change situation is working well. I ordered a pipette with my last order and kept most of the white eggs removed. I think the low survival rate is due to 2 things. #1 They like to lay on my hob intake tube so maybe the eggs aren't being milked well because of the flow. #2 My GH is around 300. So maybe the eggs can't respirate properly? I'll try like 50% distilled water to start out with next go.
  2. I have been using h2o2. A cap full about every 12 hrs. or so. I am going to look for methelen blue at my lfs. Better luck next time I hope!
  3. Ok so first go was not very successful. After 2 days most of the eggs were fungus pretty bad. I saved about 10. 4 of those became wigglers. This morning I watched the 3 survivors become free swimmers! Ok great! After about an hour 2 of those were hung up in the mesh on the overflow tube and dead. So I pulled the mesh off to "save the last one". Went to petsmart and found a piece of foam to cover the overflow. The little sucker went down the tube into the bottom! So pulled it out and put it in an external breeder box on another tank and now its gone too! Soo... I made a new sponge to cover the overflow tube. Seems to work well. My angels should lay again Tuesday. That will be attempt #2.
  4. Update: So I have been out of town for the last week. The tank with the new lid & 5w. heater installed runs between 79 and 81 deg. I took out the frogbit. It just died as expected. I added a small bit of pothos, just to see what happens. My angels laid again today so here is attempt 1.
  5. Update: I made a lid to cover about 90% of the top ( my plexiglass was a little too narrow). I also added a 5 watt heater to the bottom section. The water temp was 72.5 in my little fish room which runs about 78. I'll let that run a couple of days and see where I'm at.
  6. Sorry for the delayed reply. The white tube is attached to a nano sponge filter bringing water up from the bottom. The gold tube is the overflow tube. It has a piece of fine mesh wrapped around and sticking above the water line to prevent fry from going in, hopefully. The top does hold water independently. Probably a airline down the overflow for water changes. Its kind of inspired by Master Breeder Dean and his tray system. As for the fry, I'll start with angels cuz they are already breeding. I don't know how long they will be there. First time trying it.
  7. I set this up with a sponge filter attached under the air uplift tube. It is 7.5 gallons total. 2 gallons in the top portion. Has anyone tried a setup like this? How were your results? Any thoughts or tips for improving the design?
  8. Thank you both for the reply. I will move it to a larger outside pot and see if I can get it into one of my outside tubs. I figured for a buck it's at least a learning experience!
  9. I bought some aquarium Lilly seeds at an overstock store locally for a dollar. I threw a couple of seeds in my qt tank as its not being used atm. One sprouted and one rotted. My questions are. When should I plant it in my tank I want it in? Should I remove the seed husk before I plant it? How deep in the substrate should I plant it? Should I expect any die back moving from one tank to another?
  10. Possibly. I feed 2 to 3 times a day. All the fish in the tank are juveniles.(except 3 guppies) so maybe I could step it up to 3 times everyday and check results.
  11. I was really just wondering if anyone else had seen this type of behavior based on a specific food. Another really interesting thing i learned recently.. lol
  12. So you think should hold back the granules on this tank a little bit? I did notice a little pectoral fin damage on my other angel. I think i have a 55 gallon coming tomorrow for a late fathers gift! Probably just split those 2 angels up and solve the problem for good if that happens.
  13. I have a 65 gallon tall. Water parameters good blah blah. 2 angel fish a few cardinal tetras and a few guppies. A work in progress... I rotate feedings between Live mosquito larvae, extreme flakes fluvel bug bites flakes and bug bites granules. Everything is fine usually. But when I feed the bug bites granules one of the angels gets aggressive to everyone in the tank. When I feed any of the other foods there is no chasing at all! Anyone else see this behavior?
  14. Thank you
  15. I have a 65 gallon. Cycled with a few guppies. Just added 6 cardinal tetra from a chain without quarantine... I believe its a ich outbreak. Am 0 Tries 0 Trates<20 I treated with super ice cure 6 packets. Only had 4 left couldn't find any more locally so I bought liquid super ice cure. They have different active ingredients. I treated again today with the 4 remaining packets (40 gallon worth). Was that the right move? Or. Is it ok to mix the two meds?
