  1. Water parameters are good. 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, PH 7.2, 20 nitrates. Water temp is 78 deg. He did poop after the first Epsom salt dip but hasn’t after that.
  2. My Beta is in bad trouble. As you can see by the picture he is either bloated or a swim bladder problem or both. He has been like this for a while. I treated him with Melafix for a week, then Pimafix for a week. I posted on a Beta Facebook page and got blasted for those(sorry, I’m learning). I have given him a soak of 1 TBS Epsom salt in 1gallon of water 5 times (over 5 days). No change. I have not fed him for 4 days. I don’t want to starve him and I don’t know what else to do. Any suggestions?
  3. I am only dosing with easy green. The substrate is Carib sea eco complete cichlid sand in one tank and eco complete plant substrate in the other. Both have canister filters without carbon but I did put crushed coral in both.
  4. I have two cichlid tanks that have been setup with plants for about 6 months and I can’t get my Anubias and Java fern to thrive. I have three other tanks that are doing awesome but these two are not. My water parameters are 78 degrees, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, 40 ppm nitrates, 7.6 PH, KH 4 deg. GH 8 deg. I also dose easy green once a week. I get a lot of brown diatoms on the leaves and rocks. I am also getting holes in the Anubias leaves. Any suggestions as to what I do to get these plants thriving? I included pictures. That you for your help.
  5. I came home from vacation and found this on the lid of my 5G. I’m sure it’s Mystery snail eggs but the question I have is must I have a male and a female to hatch? I only have one mystery snail in this tank along with two nerite snails and 3 cherry shrimp. TIA.
  6. Tonyjuliano you are correct on the size. I edited the post. I also included a picture of the area that I want the tank to get a reference as to the style of tank. Maybe "peninsula" is the incorrect description of what I'm looking for. I want the tank on the wall with the red mark and I want the majority of the viewing angle from the perspective of the camera taking the picture.
  7. I have a small corner that I want to put a peninsula style tank in. I am considering a BioCube 32 or Fluval Flex 15 for this corner. What are your opinions on these two units? I'm not crazy about the plastic look of the BioCube but I can get more tank for the width that I have space for. I only have 26" of wall that I can take up. What are peoples thoughts on these two units, or do you have any other ideas on what I can get? I want to keep the look of the equipment clean and not visible that's why I am considering these two units. Thank you for the response.
  8. I have a PH and cycling question. I have a 5 gallon Beta tank that was cycled and a PH of 6.6 and 0 nitrites, 0 ammonia, and nitrates of 40 each week. I look the gravel out and replaced it with pool sand. When I did I lost my cycle and took the fish out. It’s been two weeks now and my PH has dropped so low that it’s barely yellow in the API test tube. I also have a 75 gallon planted tank with eco complete substrate and the PH is 7.2. Will the PH come up as the tank cycles or do I need to do something to raise it? I don’t want to put my Beta back in until the PH and cycle are ready but he’s getting stressed in the 1 gallon tank he’s in now. Any suggestions?
  9. I have a yellow molly that is losing its color. I have three other yellows and don’t look like this one. I do a 50% water change every week in my planted 70 gallon. PH is 7.2, ammonia 0, nitrites 0, and nitrate 40 ppm before the water change. The fish acts normal and eats well. The only stress could be from the one male molly that doesn’t leave the three females alone. Any ideas?
  10. My mystery snails shell is changing color. Should I be worried? It is still very active and looks good but the shell is almost turning translucent. I have a 75 gallon planted aquarium and I tested the water yesterday with my API master test kit. PH 7.2, ammonia .25, nitrite 0.25, and nitrate 20. I did a 25% water change after the test. Water temperature is 78. Thoughts?
  11. I got this red dwarf Lilly bulb from aquarium co-op in the Mail and put it in the tank 4 days ago. From the time I left for work this morning to the time I got home tonight it grew a cover of algae. This is a new 75g tank and I don’t have any algae yet or algae eaters. Should I be worried and if so what should I do? Thank you for all of your help. This is a great forum with great helpers.
  12. I haven’t completely figured out my exact fish for the 75g yet. I do plan on adding more plants, a couple of Amazon swords, Monte Carlo, and I would really like to find some banana plants. As for fish I definitely want rummy nose tetras, ottos, coreys, and I’m researching dwarf gouramis, fancy guppies, killifish, and maybe shrimp.
  13. I have a Marineland canister filter and I just put an Aquarium Co-Op medium sponge filter that isn't in this picture. I dont have fish in the tank yet. Still waiting for it to cycle.
  14. Hello from Irmo S.C. I just recently got started in the hobby. It all started because my wife ordered a moss ball. After she got it she put it in a container and realized she wanted a Beta to go with it. The next day I saw the glass container wasn't big enough to keep a fish happy. I went to Petsmart and bought the Top Fin 5 gallon aquarium and within a month I was hooked and started a 75 gallon. I just started this adventure a month ago and I found Aquarium Co-Op and KGTtropicals on youtube and they inspired me to go full in on this hobby. I am looking forward to learning a lot from this forum. Thank you in advance for the answers to the questions that I have.
  15. I am very curious about this also. I have a new 75g tank that I am currently cycling. I have some live plants and Eco-complete substrates. I do not have any fish and have not placed any food in the tank. The tank has been up for about a week and a half and I noticed a white substance floating in the water and on the intake tube. I watched Corey's video about heaters yesterday and moved my heater and when I did a huge cloud of white came off of the heater. I did take a filter out of my 5g tank and put it in this tank to help cycle. Is it possible that I brought this problem from one tank to another?
