  1. Could be. Do you have aqua-soil / root tabs / fertilizers under the Flourite subrate? The Flourite itself won't provide any nutrients to the plants. If the new growth is green the old leaves may have used up their life and are on the way out. I would remove them so they don't cause ammonia spikes.
