  1. Welcome back! I took a 20+ year hiatus. I've had a lot to learn (nitrogen cycle) but a lot (plants make everything better) is still valid. My biggest issue is differentiating between "new" and "better" because I've seen lots of fads and theories come and go, not necessarily in fishkeeping, but in life. A 10 is versatile and is a good place to start.
  2. Your tank is beautiful! I'm glad you "listened" to your platies and took their advice. Yes, fish are a wonderful distraction.
  3. Beautiful setup! I really like the way you've used the large pebbles to transition between the foreground and the planted area. It has a finished look and the stars will be the fish instead of the plantscape. I look forward to seeing your fish.
  4. Nice tank! Welcome back to fishkeeping. I've also returned after a long hiatus.
  5. Welcome and hello from near Houston, Texas! I'm doing the "re-newb" thing, too, after a 20 year hiatus. I bought a BiOrb and a betta which almost immediately wasn't enough. I then bought a 20 gallon and all the requisite "stuff" but haven't been able to set it up just yet. So I bought a 10 gallon which my 7 yo grandsons have hijacked, lol. They're earning ownership of it by "leveling up" their fishkeeping skills. I absolutely love that you named your gourami Gimli Gloin. That's perfect!
  6. Hi, Danielle! I'm LaDonna. I'm fairly near Houston, Texas. Your tank is beautiful. I've never kept aquatic turtles but I shared my home for several years with a geriatric and somewhat spoiled Russian tortoise who'd been rehomed following the death of his previous guardian. Like you I joined fishkeeping as a kid. My hiatus was about 20 years. I was really missing it so I'm back and learning the new stuff. Right now I have an odd looking betta in a 15 liter BiOrb and I'm setting up what I intend to be a lightly stocked 20 gallon with a mixture of live and silk plants. I plan to try introducing the betta into the community tank. I have a Plan B if he turns out to be aggressive.
  7. Hi, Manny! Im fairly near Houston, Texas. After about a 20 year hiatus I'm fishkeeping again. So much has changed I feel like a newb again. Right now I have a betta in a 15 liter BiOrb and I'm setting up a lightly stocked 20 gallon tank for him. I have a mixture of live (anubias so far & a few others to follow as I relearn how to keep them alive) and silk plants. I also have a Plan B in place in case he doesn't want tank mates.
  8. That's a good looking tank! I'm just returning after a hiatus too. I feel like a newb again, lol, so many changes!
  9. Hi Chlo! Your bettas are both beautiful and their names are perfect! It looks like you're taking great care of them.
  10. Hi! Your plecos are just gorgeous! I love those guys! I love corys too. I've never seen baby ones. Best wishes with them.
  11. Hi, y'all! I'm fairly near Houston, Texas. My dil bought me a BiOrb 15L and a Petco Betta. Her twins named him Charlie. Now I'm a fishkeeping newb again. So much has changed after 20+ years away from it! Y'all will soon learn that I'm not much of a photographer. I can't seem to show the beautiful turquoise radiating pattern in Charlie's tail and the turquoise blue iridescence over his body. He's a bit smallish, maybe young, and swims laps around his tank so I'm in the process of setting up a lightly stocked 20g for him.
