  1. CPD are are 72-76 F and BN plecos are 72 to 82 right? Shoot for 75ish then? The tank is 51" by 38" by 21" tall. I have about 6 caves scattered around the bottom with some java moss to offer cover as well. Anything I should change?
  2. I have a 110g stock tank with about 6 CPD's in it and I have 4 juvenile super red Bristlenose plecos arriving shortly. Any issue with combining the two other than the plecos eating any eggs the danios drop? I'd like to breed the plecos once they are old enough and can be paired off appropriately but I don't want to stress out the more skittish CPD's either. I was considering using a pond basket or a divider to keep them separate since the tank is so big but I'm thinking this is probably necessary. Thoughts?
  3. Any particular brands you recommend? Also, what do you recommend for mounting them? I see there are some various brackets available on Amazon but it is hard to tell what is trash and what is treasure sometimes.
  4. I'm looking to setup a filter sock system with a holder of some type in a freshwater sump/refugium. Any brand or system recommendations?
  5. Yes I believe I've watched that video but he doesn't seem to talk about hardness, mostly PH (or I missed it, which is entirely possible.) The tank is setup and running and has been doing so for a few weeks. My local fish store doesn't have any puffers in stock yet so we are just patiently waiting and trying to make the new tank as appropriate as possible. I'm wondering now if perhaps my KH is okay but the GH is a bit soft and I should be up in the 70-140ppm for GH. It would easy enough to adjust the softener to reach that but I just can't seem to find consistent numbers anywhere.
  6. We are looking at setting up a pea puffer tank and I am on well water. If run through our water softener our GH is about 25ppm and the KH between 120-180ppm. I've seen lots of conflicting info about ideal hardness for them. Should I be mixing this softened water with RO to reduce the KH or is this pea puffer appropriate?
  7. I've considered using the nano sponge but I think the air-stone bubbles would drive me/us nuts. I've been running just a stone in there without a filter as it is getting established and my wife has commented more than once that she isn't a fan of the constant bubbling. I guess if I went with a filter it would be more of a pump style since it is in such a common area...although I'm sure that wouldn't be entirely silent either. I guess my preference is for light only but I'm worried if I don't run something in there the plants will die (Montecarlo) or I'm going to find dead shrimp since it seems that most people suggest keeping the water moving in some way.
  8. That is a slick little sponge filter. I didn't realize anything existed like that. This is the other one I was considering. https://www.amazon.com/Aqueon-Quietflow-Internal-Filter-Gallon/dp/B06XW2B39Z/ref=sr_1_11?crid=1S5MUPH9RLTO1&keywords=internal%2Baquarium%2Bfilter&qid=1653244668&sprefix=internal%2Baquarium%2Bfilter%2Caps%2C100&sr=8-11&th=1
  9. I have a heavily planted 3 gallon rimless tank setup for shrimp that is on our kitchen countertop. I'd like it to be as clean looking as possible so my original intent was to leave it without a filter but I'm second guessing that choice. Is the nano HOB they sell here at the Coop the best choice for this purpose? Is it foolish to go without? I'd appreciate any input! Thanks!
  10. I just picked up a Fiji Cube 11 gallon aquarium with an overflow and I'm trying to find a stand for it I can hide a sump/refugium in. It measures a solid 14 inches square. The closest I can come to fitting it is this JBJ stand. https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/jbj-nano-cube-12-gallon-cabinet-stand I was hoping for a nice flush fit but it appears Fiji doesn't make a stand to fit this particular aquarium. Anyone have any other stand suggestions or ideas that might look nice with it?Thanks! https://www.fijicube.com/products/11-gallon-w-external-overflow-rimless-nano-tank-fiji-cube?_pos=1&_psq=11-ga&_ss=e&_v=1.0
  11. I've got some large bunches of pearl weed (more than a foot tall) that are really thriving and sending out roots all the way up and down the long stems. I've been trimming the tops off and planting the cuttings with success (going for a carpet.) Is it reasonable to just bend the whole bunch over so the new shoots can root directly without trimming or is this going to create a strange growth pattern that I will regret? I know I'll need to trim everything eventually but I'm wondering of this could be a shortcut.
  12. I'd be worried that the breeder box would turn by default into a septic tank with a UGF as it would also be pumping all the waste from the parent fish into the box as well (depends on the fish load obviously.) In one of Cory's guppy videos he talked about using small stones piled up around an air lift tube to achieve this though. The fry seek out the cover and get pulled up into the tube. I think combining that with the breeder box would be handy though. I wonder if there is a small pond basket or something that would fit in the more standard breeder box since the GL-1 is hard to find. This would create a barrier for mama and then would be easy to remove once she has dropped her fry.
  13. Ah I see. That would be really handy to have. I'm surprised they aren't more widely available. Where did you pick yours up from Tedrock?
  14. I'm looking to pick up a Ziss breeder box for some guppies and swordtails that will be dropping fry soon but I notice this particular box doesn't have the "V" shaped seperator to keep the hungry mama away from her babies like some of the less expensive options do. Is there a known add-on or modification using a floating basket to make a separation between fry and female until she can be removed?
  15. So would you feed the Xtreme Nano along with some regular flakes or is it one or the other?
  16. I've read through several fish profiles for White Cloud Minnows but there seem to be a lot of generalities listed ("brine shrimp but don't forget some vegetable matter, a good flake food, maybe daphnia etc.") I was just going to pickup some brine shrimp I'm not clear if I can feed that alone. Can anybody recommend some of the specific products they use for their minnows so I can be sure I'm buying the right thing or things? I'm probably making this harder than it is but just want to be sure I don't miss anything. Thanks!
  17. Thanks guys for the clarification. I see in one of the Aquarium Co-Op blog posts that the usb nano air pump can be used for outdoor ponds if kept dry but I’m assuming this isn’t meant for long term use. Should I be aiming for the AP100 instead and just combine the dual outputs to a single sponge filter?
  18. I’m setting up a new stock tank outdoors that I will be stocking with some fancy goldfish. I’d like to purchase some Aquarium Co-Op sponge filters and I see the large size is for 40+ gallons. Should I be using 2 of this size for a 110 gallon or does the “40+“ mean 1 is sufficient?
