  1. Which heaters do you use for the hatchery. I'd like to conserve space rather than use a big clip-on lamp, which doesn't do the job in winter. The 1 aqueon nano, I had, piped it up to almost 89 Thanks 😁
  2. Thanks all 😁❤️ My 100yo house has oil heat and water. Sooooo .....🙄
  3. What heater do you use for the BBS kit ? Using my little shop light in winter just isn't cutting it. The rest of the year it's fine.
  4. I knew the straps were old. My tap is always low acidic, plus driftwood and plants. In March with snow run off they bump stuff up. Gh/kh was always low but I supplement with things I listed previously. Yes I need a test that works to finish my experimenting 😁on 2 existing fish-less tanks by bumping the gh/kh up a smidgen for my snails and shrimp. I guess I'm just irritated this api test is bad
  5. It's more a dark yellow. I went on Amazon to look at it and there are a lot of comments about the same issue as if some lots were bad
  6. That's the tap which has about a 6.4-6.8 PH. Used 5 then 10 drops Total TDS tap: Treated w/ Equilibrium as per above - Photo 1 Tap w/Prime - photo 2
  7. Sigh... it's supposed to be good thru 2024. 😕
  8. . I feed a lot of calcium and include cuttlebone, crushed coral etc . Thanks 😁
  9. Following the gh test instructions, the color stays yellow. This is 1 Co-op test strip I had left and it may be old. I used another 3 trying to figure this out. I'm setting up a snail tank atm. When I got weird readings I tested my prolific cherry neos tank and these are the readings. It makes no sense. I was about to test Equilibrium in a cycled plant only 10g and/or a 5g that I have to bump up my ph and hardness, for future dosage reference. The 10g previously had a betta that passed with a tumor and a mystery snail that's now mating/producing clutches in another tank. Feeling clueless.
  10. Awesome. I had a bunch of broken up almond leaves as leaf litter prior so the water was already full of tannins 😃
  11. If the salt did this I'm assuming the 1 feeding w/kanaplex didn't assist but should I keep it up for 7 days ? He's like a different fish. Swelling/white is gone 😳
  12. That's a lot of pellets how do you store the leftovers 🤔 since he'll never finish all that and would like to use for other fish in case I need it.
  13. Grabbed this guy that was dropped off at my lfs today. I had a cycled planted 5.5g, w/ no fish, that I had been debating on using for a betta or shrimp. He's eaten live bbs, has a healthy appetite, and is quite active since I've brought him home So far I added 2 tbsp salt. I've used 1 scoop kanaplex mixed w/1 scoop focus then put 1 scoop of that mix in with a 1/2 tbsp of defrosted bloodworms (2.5 cubes).A full tbsp of bloodworms seemed a bit much to make. The other scoop I'm debating on adding to repashy or pellets/flakes to freeze/store for future use He's eaten 2 bloodworms as I meant to have only 1 in the tongs. What would be dosage from here on out per bloodworm ? Ph 6.6 Amm 0 Nitrite 0 Nitrate 10 Gh 25ppm Kh 50ppm

    Surprise Cory

Well that group photo, those are dropping eggs weekly and parents are in that group. I have 20 or so itty bitties growing out. Time will tell 🥰😁

    Surprise Cory

The parents breed weekly. I throw out a lot of eggs. I currently have 2 small groups of fry growing out (1 & 2mo old) and there may be some just like him in his future 🥰
  16. 😲This is the 1st time I've seen this cory in this 40g. He must of hitched in as an egg on a plant or piece of decor in May when I was moving plants and decor into my 40g & given his size. He has somehow avoided detection until now, despite weekly water changes. 😲 The dark large dorsal got me curious. I thought there was a slim chance he could be a hybrid with axelrodi I had moved from the tank when my bandits started to breed. But there is nothing I've seen in the Ln9 line that comes close even if it's something from his parents line. I had noticed fry I grew out to sell/trade having darker dorsals since but they're gone now and am starting a new round of fry. I'm wondering if this could be a mutation ? Below are photos of him and his choice of parents.
  17. 2 of 3 of my shortfin are a bit bigger than my boy ATM compared to the longfin. I'm thinking I should start him out with a big girl in case he gets a little overzealous. 😜 These sf girls were ready 4 months ago too....
  18. Yeah finding another male is difficult part. I've grown these all out from an inch (which explains my luck w/1 male). I may have to start with the best of the half siblings.. lf/sf offspring x lf/lf.. Of course selling the rest could pay the price for a breeding male shipped etc etc ...eventually
  19. I've heard lemon longfin bn tend to run genetically weak or are fragile. In my experience, I've had some issues with them. Presently I have 1 longfin male, 2 longfin female & 3 shortfin females all ready to breed. I was thinking of trying to create a stronger line by longfin breeding with the short fin. I've been thinking of this project for awhile; to make a stronger longfin line, as I love them., rather just to pump out fry. I space out breeding to let my boys recover. I keep the females in their own tanks to control the amount of breeding. They are from 3 separate sources. I'm looking for options on how to go about this. This will be this male's 1st breed and I'm trying to decide on whether to start with a shortfin gal (that are several months older and larger than the male) or with the more petite female (1 is about the same size as he is) I know I need another male but odd are what they are. 😉 Raphael and his harem 🥰
  20. Well a few hours ago I took this photo. So going to do an antiseptic dose to be sure. It seems to have broken/fallen off. 😀
  21. I noticed this tiny white fungus? on my angelfish. I'm assuming it orginated from an injury when he got himself in a tither while I was cleaning the tank last week. He swam into/under the corner just as I was propping up a piece of driftwood to clean under it. I noticed it yesterday as I was doing the regular w/c. I opted to dose Melafix and pick up Pimafix today as I decided to treat it as a minor issue. I dosed the entire 40g as I don't decent sized quarantine for him. I added a 2nd dose this morning and a few hours later I was surprised it was almost gone (see 3rd/4th photo) or fell off. Should I dose for the rest of the weak and/or use the Pimafix a few days as antiseptic?
  22. Yeah they are somewhat out of control. They make a mess and eggs are everywhere because of all the pleco food and fresh veggies. I had 20 baby albino bn in there so there was a buffet for the snails too, apparently. I already removed most of the snails i could but there's a bunch of gravel sized ones and a plethora of eggs everywhere. Also, as I said, I don't need it right now but want to save the bb (for use in a few weeks). I want them gone. It was a bad idea to add them imo. Most of the snails are going to a lfs as puffer food. Once this mess is cleared up, I'll have blue eyed lemon fry that will be big enough to move in. So I need to keep the bb.
  23. Just sold the last of my juvenile plecos and I am cleaning the bare bottom 10g tank. (I had fry split between 20 and a 10). I made an error😳 by introducing blue ramshorns. I have driftwood and a potted plant in the tank w/ 2 filters (a sponge and corner filter as seen below) Atm its half drained and I wondered if I could use alum to kill the plethora of snail eggs or if y'all can offer another solution. I don't need it right away but would like to keep the bb for my next breeding (after this is dealt with)
