  1. Little update as I've been very busy, I no longer have this tank and have now got a 340L instead which is fully cycled and ready for my fish, its running 2 307 canister filters and I absolutely love it. Cannot wait to finally get the fish in 🙂
  2. So ive decided that its time to get round to fixing up this tank, so started off by removing the old silicone which was scarily easy to remove that i generally didnt even need a razor to cut it out, it was also an extremely thin bead all the way round so i have no idea how the previous owner had water in this without it bursting. Anyway after clearing out all the old silicone i went round with Acetone and cleaned up all the seams, now going to tape up with a 1cm gap on both sides so it can put a decent seam on it. Tho the only problem i seem to have at the moment its removing the top braket as it has about half a tube of silicon holding it down which is proving pretty difficult to dig out, never saw a tank with a euro brace and 2 braces across the middle before but i ghuess it adds to the overall strength of the tank. I'll keep you all posted as i go along.
  3. Checked the actual weight of my tank and its actually alot lighter than i thought it was going to be 😕 so now i really dont know what to think lol
  4. 1. Deans fish room 2. Deans how to breed Rams 3. Building an urban fish farm 4. Peru Trip 5. How build a brine shrimp hatchery
  5. Already spoke to my brothers and their happily to help which is lucky, yeh im alittle heartbroken as 540L would mean I could practically have any fish I've ever wanted to keep, im a huge cichlid fan and as we know they get huge so I was kinda looking forward to thus, even spoke to the wife about moving house lol 300L is still a decent size tho so can still house a few good sized fish.
  6. The tank and stand weigh alot less than what this one does plus when filled is half the weight than if I were to use this one.
  7. Nope she didn't have them and the planning department are having trouble finding them. Just going to cut my losses and sell it, got a 300L lined up when I can finally sell this one.
  8. So after alot of conversations and deliberations, it is with sadness ive decided to sell the tank as its just not worth the risk at the end of it all, therefor put it up for sale and ill be looking to get something lighter, perhaps 300L or something. Truely heartbroken by this because it wouldve been an awesome tank to use. Keep you all posted, thanks for all your help and input over the last few days.
  9. So just alittle update, cannot get hold of my landlord so have asked a few neighbours, one of which mentioned they have a fish tank also and have done for 20 years. They asked me in and i took a look, its a 4ft breeder sat on a custom made wooden bench in the same place i plan to put mine. They have confirmed the main floor is concrete with a floor build ontop and my best plan of action is to put a thick piece of wood down with an extra 1 inch diameter to help with load but also said due to the shape of the stand it would be fine on its own if i chose to go that route and that the tank should be fine either way due to the concrete floor. Still waiting on another neighbour coming home who has the actual blueprint of the building for further confirmation.
  10. I live in the Capital city and do not know any caber tossers as thats not really a thing anybody does here, slightly offensive and stereotyping there.
  11. Im mainly just scared that if it did go through the floor it would kill either my neighbour or her daughter :/ i'll find out more from the landlord in the morning.
  12. Nope, I live in Scotland and joined last month no problem, the link you posted also sends me to the membership tab on the youtube channel so its working for me. Its odd its sending you back to the homepage tho
  13. Yeh like i mentioned from what ive seen these flats/apartments are basically concrete boxes with floors built ontop of them, was just panicking abit when i did a weigh calculation and it can back with 3/4 of a tonne lol Im going to contact my local council tomorrow and just ask for info as itll put my mind at ease, tho looking through my rental agreement it makes no mention of no waterbeds etc in it at all so at least thats something.
  14. I live in Scotland, up until the mid 70s houses were built purely with stone, stell and concrete. The only thing ive found out about this building so far is that in the late 50s it was used as a paper factory, i may go to the national archive when it reopens in a few weeks and ask there for some information as asking our local council is usually not advised (they are awful). I will read up on the link you sent as any help is very much appreciated, ill be devastated if i cant go ahead with it, so looking forward to finally owning Oscars and other large Cichlids.
  15. So i purchased a 500L aquarium (after using aquarium calc its actually 540L) with a steel tubing type stand, it is crazy heavy (took 3 of us to carry it up 2 flights of stairs and barely made it) once i fill it with water i estimate it to be roughly 3/4 of a ton, my apartment is an old 1950s building made from solid concrete and from what i saw as a plumber lifted boards in my bathroom a few years back my floor is also concrete with beams across it and floorboards fitted to that. My question is basically should i continue to fill and stock this monster tank, i cannot find any blueprints or floor plans for these apartments anywhere so have no max load to go on.
  16. Yeh i was thinking of just setting up the 307 with optimum filtration and biomedia, see how that goes, ive got a wavemaker for pushing detritus and debris back to the filter and i have a few air pumps laying about and was wondering about adding a few big sponge filters in the tank if it comes to it.
  17. Yup started with a 110L, then got a 65L Fry tank, now just went out and got 500L but becuase of the size of my tiny house the 500L will be my last as i literally cannot put another tank anywhere.
  18. It was Corys video that started me questioning if the 307 might be enough if i setup the foam and media in a particular way. https://youtu.be/SIMNLeXB8Pc
  19. Mulm is fantastic fertilizer for plants, you can use it to water house plants and cacti etc for fantastic result, its also excellent for accelerated tank cycling 🙂
  20. Its still fully boxed as i dont have the new tank until later today, problem is money is really tight and after spending on substrate, rock, lights and other bits and peices this was all i could afford. I was however looking at an All Pond Solutions EFX+ which is £40 cheaper and does upto 1000L but it has mixed reviews so im alittle bit dubious about it.
  21. Thank you both, I will post up pics and updates as i go along with the 500L but i first have to decorate my lounge as it was the deal i made with the wife in order to get the big tank 😂, pretty fair deal i would say aswell
