  1. The betta seems to be doing just fine. If he’s active and intact, why change his surroundings? Aquarium co-op suggests to use maracyn differently than what’s directed on the box. I’m leaving to go out of town Saturday. If I dose now, leave medication in for a bit over a week, do you believe there will be detriment? Or will there be more detriment to said fish if I do nothing.
  2. My young telescope goldfish has been losing scales and looking more and more red over the course of a week. The goldfish shares a 40 gallon with two other young goldfish, three baby banded gudgeons and a betta fish. Temp is kept between 70-72 degrees Fahrenheit. Little nitrates. 7.2-7.6 ph Very hard water Moderate to high buffer My plant load keeps nitrates way down. I’ve given one dose of Maracyn. All other inhabitants are doing just fine. Help!!
  3. Yes, I male two females. Shes always the odd man out. Always being chased by the other two. Has been since I got them a couple months ago. Symptoms are the white spots. No lethargy. Eats eagerly. Doesn’t hide.
  4. I need help with this Sailfin molly I got a trio and she’s constantly being chased by the other two What is this? I’ve treated her for what I thought was ich in the past with ich-x and salt. She’s the only one that’s ever affected. I’ll quarantine her and then as soon as I place her back in the main tank it’s back. she eats, is not lethargic. Just dropped fry 4-5 days ago.
  5. Nitrates are now down to 25-50ppm after two water changes, some dead leaf removal and a mild gravel vac.
  6. I found my problem. After reading a few more forum posts, I was informed that I haven’t been shaking my API liquid tests correctly and probably not mixing the reagent. Shook the nitrate 1 and 2 bottles added it to my test vial and boom, 160ppm nitrates. I will perform water changes ~ 50% every 4 days or so. Fish look fine, thank goodness.
  7. I recently purchased the Aquarium Co-Op Multi-Test Strips. Before that, I was using the API test kit. I tested my water and the test strip read that I had 50-100 nitrates. I water changed based on these results. I test again today, about 48 hours later and no feedings, my API reads 0 nitrates but the test strips are still reading 50-100. My tank is around 2 years old and planted but lately I’ve had a lot of dying back and algae growth. Not sure what to do.
  8. Just performed a 30% water change because I found my buddy breathing heavily at the bottom of the tank. Removed decor/plants I care about in case you suggest dosing with salt. All other fish are unbothered. Ammonia was 0.
  9. Yes he’s eating. I’ll test ammonia and get a picture of him in a little bit (lights are currently off) His mouth looks a bit better today and I’m noticing a bit more movement on his gil.
  10. My oranda is only using one gil and the affected side seems to be swollen. I understand this swelling could be wen growth but it’s most prominent on his affected cheek and mouth. He also hides in the upper corner of the aquarium and will occasionally tip forward. I’ve dosed the water column with general cure. Only new additions are some wood I put with Java Fern and Bucephalandra. All other goldfish are fine.
  11. That’s awesome! What size pump did you use?
  12. As soon as our basement remodel is complete I will be setting up my first pond. I’ve purchased a 300 gallon Rubbermaid tote. I made a DIY canister filter (5 gallon Lowe’s bucket) filled with bio rings and coarse sponge from Aquarium Co-Op. I acquired an Eheim 1262 pump, which I’ve never used. Will this be too overwhelming for my DIY canister? I’m using 1” PVC and 1” to 3/4” flex tubing.
  13. My juvenile Ryukins all have bubbles in their stool. I feed them a varied diet of Repashy, frozen brine, Saki Hikari and duckweed. I have two sponge filters (with air stones) in the tank and the tank stays around 72 degrees. My oranda and Ranchu have never had this. All swim and act normally. Should I be concerned?
