  1. Unfortunately there are no clubs that I know of in West Texas or Eastern New Mexico. The manager of the home is willing to work with and even fund any project. There is just no one that they know of locally to step up.
  2. This last week my daughter got taken to the reginal kids hospital. While there My wife and I were given a room at the Ronald McDonald House where they took good care of us. The ladies were wonderful. What makes this a fish / aquarium issue it that each house has one or more tank for people to watch and relax around. We all know how being around one can help with peace of mind. The two at the house I stayed at were sad. The fish populations were a jumbled mix that were fighting each other, all the plants were artificial, the filters were outdated and although nice to have could have bin so much better and easier to take care of. I live over 3 hours from there but I was convicted that my skills could help them. I was wondering would there be interest in this community to start perhaps an adopt a house campaign to partner with Ronald McDonald House to show off what we as a community can do and help out the kids and families while sharing our passion. I am willing to step forward and say that I am willing to do what ever I can to make this happen if any others want to join in.
  3. I don't need to import them. I live in what was once there territory. Not found a single farm or breeder that has them. May have to see what it takes to legally wild collect them.
  4. Hi, just wanted to ask, how are the Texas Cichlids doing?
  5. I am trying to get some Texas Cichlids and am finding them impossible to source. Does anyone know any breeders? Is that something that is a void in the market? I live on the lower Pecos river and know that some verities used to be found here....
  6. I am bringing this thread back up because I noticed something today that someone might want to look into. While I was placing an order today I got several additional items suggested to me. That's normal, so no complaints there. The trouble was that every item was something I had bin looking at and is at the moment out of stock. Suggestive selling only can work when you are trying to sell things that the person can order. No idea how you have that set up, but someone might want to look into it. Thanks
  7. You should only start to be worried if they start going "Muad'Dib" If that happens they may start trying to dehydrate the other fish as well as the tank and that could end badly.
  8. She does, but the schools tech policy is that they are not allowed any tech that is not approved by the IT department and the school can take any tech in the building for inspection other then your phone. There are a lot of rules that are intended to keep the kids safe but do not make much sense in that regard. We also have fairly regular power outages or spikes due to the wind so having something that we do not have to go to the school to reset is important.
  9. What kind of timer would be recommended for where you have no net or electronic signal? I am setting up a tank in my wife's classroom and it can not be connected to any network. It also has to be able to keep going even if there is a power outage.
  10. Truth be told I would have done a bit more research my self but had bin up for over 20 hours and passed out just after I posted. The info is kind of fun to read.
  11. @Biotope Biologist Thank you for the information. I figured posting this here would spur on some conversation and get more and better information then the article had in it.
  12. I agree, but figure that a little information can go a long way.
  13. I came across this news story this morning and wanted to see if anyone else had seen it. I know is is always important to wash you hands after working on your tanks, but this is a whole new level of worry. https://www.yahoo.com/news/clue-emerged-possible-source-rare-182056652.html
  14. Thank you for all the info. Starting to meet with some teachers to see what they would like.

  16. Part of the reason for this is a retired teacher friend of mine let me know that he has a stack of 10 and 20 Gal tanks with hoods and some other equipment that they are wanting to get rid of. So thank fully I am not super worried about things falling into the tanks to often.
  17. My wife is a teacher in a special needs preschool and we have bin talking for a while about me setting up a tank in her classroom. I am not new to the hobby but the special challenges of setting up the tank in a classroom full of 4 year old's has me thinking. Has anyone here ever set up such a tank, is there things I need to consider beyond the normal? I know that the kids are going to be more hands on at the beginning of the year then they should be so are there fish that handle tapping on the tank better then others? Anyone with any info or thoughts I would appreciate hearting them.
  18. Great information on the different choices, but have a question. In the end of the video when talking about using plants as filtering moss balls were mentioned. The last time I heard anyone talk about them was that they were no longer available due to tiger muscle infestation. Has that changed?
  19. I would gladly take some. I am mirroring my photoperiod to the local day night cycle so they are having 14 hours a day and I am over feeding as well as giving algae wafers.
  20. This may seem a bit backwards to many but I am trying to get a bit of algae to grow in my tank and as of yet I have never bin able to get any. I have bin wanting a little beneficial growth because my fish would enjoy it however for some reason in the 14 years I have had this tank there has never bin any even when I added a bottle of quick starter that advertised it would encourage algae growth. Any advice would be very welcome. This is a 55 Gal tank, my water is very hard, I planted it about 2 months ago and most of the low light plants are doing fine.
  21. @BBQRacer I do a bit of 2D design and printing as well, bin wondering though are there any filaments that are aquarium safe?
  22. Thank you! Such a pleasurer to work with people with a passion for what they do!
  23. Tried it on two different computers using Win10 with Google Chrome. Was only able to display 13 of the 22 items in the cart.
  24. Please take this as a friendly idea as I truly enjoy your site. I just put in a plant order and was applying some gift cards I was given. Due to the number of plants and varieties the list was so long that I could not see the link to add my gift cards with out zooming out to 35% view. I am not sure what the workaround would be other then adapting the code to be sure you can scroll down all the way on the page.
