  1. Started with a few fish around March this year. First tank Mickey Mouse platys and a couple mollies. Been learning so much from aquarium coop on youtube and forum on website. Can’t believe all the great plants I’ve purchased past few months that are doing great (just had fake until I kept reading about benefits of live plants). Just so much to learn. Well regarding Cory thank you so very much on your advice to help my betta “Baby Blue”. Just a few days after I got her I noticed she had Popeye. Followed your advice and she is doing great! Have added live plants and a betta log to her 10 gal home. Not sure if she is blind in one eye but after using salt as you suggested she seems so happy and healthy now. While tending to her I lost one of my mollies in the other tank. Looking at the rest I noticed one platy had ick. Thank you Cory first for recommending one keeps ick on hand which I had and then I watched and followed your recommendation on treating ick. Day 4 of water changes and ick-x meds and no sign of ick now. Hopefully stopped the cycle. Both of you are so AWESOME ! Thank You Both so much for being there for us newbies. ~ Nini
  2. Colu Thank you so very much for your help. Blu’s Eye is reducing in size since being in aquarium salt water. Couple more days then I think I will redo Maracyn meds again. I did notice I had purchased Maracyn oxy and that it said it is not an antibiotic so I purchased and quickly received the Maracyn from aquarium coop. Not sure what the difference is but thought I should get the one suggested. Blu seems quite happy in the 10 gal tank. I did purchase and placed in the tank a betta log which she immediately swam into. She swims to the front of the tank when I walk by. She seems to always be hungry! Question - Do I need to change out all the salt water when I begin the next Maracyn treatment? Or just add Maracyn? Again thanks so very much for you advice. It is reassuring to have folks like you willing to help people like me who are new to this wonderful world of fish keeping. Nini
  3. Saw “Baby Blue” in Petco while buying some small animal bedding a little over a week ago. Just took hold of that small plastic cup and took her home with me. Yes we named her already. I know it sounds strange but it’s like she’s bonded with us already. Two days after getting her I noticed her one eye was larger than the other. Been medicating her with Maracyn for four days, eye still swollen but not as much and she seems happy in her 10 gallon tank. It has a heater and sponge filter and I added a smooth rock. I ordered a betta log and food from aquarium coop due here tomorrow. She eats out of my hand and follows it around. She swims to meet me when I walk by the tank and comes up to my hand when I put it in the tank. Sometimes she lays her tail to the side and lets it roll over /cover my finger. I think she couldn’t see at first as she would miss the food pellet a couple times til she got it lined up. She’s much better at that now. Questions: med bottle says medicate for no more than 5 days. Is that it? Is there something more I need to do. How long does it take to heal? If it does not heal will I be able someday to add say some neons to keep her company? At what point can I add live plants? Thanks for any advice to help her.
  4. I was just going to ask for HELP on similar situation! Last March I sent in message how I lost all my neons within minutes. Couldn’t figure out what happened - I’m very new at fish keeping. Today I lost 4 minnows I’ve had in a small pond it’s actually a wine barrel with a liner. Got fish free months and months ago it’s a county program to keep mosquitoe population down. They have grown and have been doing well. Had lots of green water so decided to replace some of the water about 25%. Added api quick start one two pumps - all 4 fish died. This is exactly what happened to my aquarium with tetras as I described last March. I am now very hesitant to use declorinators ever again! Just don’t know exactly what happened but it has happened twice now. They were only little minnows but I really enjoyed them and feel awful. Thinking of getting some snails to help with algae - please any suggestions helpful. Sad day...
  5. I’m 73 years old and very new to fishkeeping. For years I bred and showed mini wire haired dachshunds, conformation, obedience, rally, field trials and agility, Had the privilege of one of my girls going best in show. I was responsible for every puppy it’s entire life. As they can live 16-18 years I had to stop as at my age they could out live me and I can’t get around as before. So, a new hobby - fish keeping. Found AquariumCoop and You Cory. I am learning so much. Currently have a 10 gal with some mollies and Mickey Mouse platys were sold to me as mollies. One little fry that’s doing well. Tank is about four months old now, have added a number of live plants and sponge filter and have not changed water in three weeks although I did add a pitcher full yesterday to replace condensation. Test strips show all ok. I am now a believer in live plants. Thanks so much for the expert advice and encouragement I’m learning so much. I had a void when I had to stop showing my dogs but enjoying my fish so much. I sit on the floor for long periods of time and just watch them. They,re just great. I’m looking around for a larger tank for them. Thank you again Cory for all you do. Mary
  6. Ken Thanks so much for the info. I am actually looking at Aqua top air pump ap100 on the coop website. Would like to run sponge filters and the other device off of one air pump if possible. Wasn’t sure if I could do this with the nano pump but verifying how silent it is is a plus. Again thanks for the quick response.
  7. I’m new. Running two aquariums 10 gal with sponge filter and 37 gal with sponge filter. Also have hanging filters that came with units running. Using a small air pump to run both sponge filters but not adequate for both. Also want to add another air run unit That won’t work right now. Would Aqua Air 100 work? thanks Mary
  8. Not sure if this is the place but could really use some help. Use to raise and show miniature wire haired dachshunds but had to stop as they can live to 18+ years. I am responsible for every pup as long as it lives and at my age now they could outlive me. So now new to the wonderful world of fish and have my son to help. So have a 10 gal and a 40 gal tank. Filled with artificial plants but I did find aquariumcoop and Cory on utube and have since purchased a water sprite for each tank. Have had them a little over one week and doing great. My problem: filled 10 gal with five neon tetras waited a few days then added a baby girl beta. All doing great beta even schooling a bit with neons. A week later added five more neons. They were all tiny but got together and were schooling. Seemed ok and content. About three days after I changed a quarter of the water. I sat watching them it’s so therapeutic. I added a bit of quick start and then watched in shock as the neons died one after another in a matter of no more than two minutes. The beta seemed ok but was dead the next morning. I also noticed that the lights on the cover had come close to the water line. Should I not have added the quick start? I just enjoyed the fish so much I don’t want to give up but I don’t want something like this to happen to little ones again. Also I added three mollies to the bigger tank and the next day there were babies! I thoroughly enjoyed every morning and evening watching all swimming around for about a week and a half until I found one morning only one of the eight babies were left and then one of the mollies ate the last one. If babies or fry happen again I am ready with a place to put them just wasn’t sure if they could be safely moved when so little. Sorry this ended up so long. Enjoy your site and getting ready to place another order. art
