  1. I recently spawned a batch of Cherry barbs and now have about 30+ in my 29 gallon with about 15 ember tetras , tons of Crystal red shrimp and about half a dozen dwarf corries (hastatus). Everyone gets along great and often school together. The tank is heavily plant particular with suswarsertang which the shrimp love.
  2. I will add my 2 cents. It looks like it could be a juvenile candy cane tetra/rosy tetra.( Hyphessobrycon Rosaceus) or Hyphessobrycon Spc.
  3. I keep amanos with both Crystal bee shrimps and cherry shrimp with no problems
  4. I use AquaPlanner it has a lot of nice features. I think I brought the paid version to eliminate adds and or unlock all features, but it has been awhile so I don’t remember. I use it on my I pad. I set up multiple aquariums with stocking, water parameters, notes etc. Also you can pictures of your stock etc.
  5. No live stream today? 7/25/2021
  6. I often use The wet spot, and have had good luck with them.
  7. I have a 125 gal heavily planted aquarium with about six ottos in it. The tank contains numerous different schools of tetras along with various corries and dwarf chain loaches. All the bottom dwellers can sometimes disappear for a day or so, but always turn up again. My lights don’t come on till 2 pm and turn off at 10 pm. Ambient room light usually allows me more opportunities to view my light sensitive inhabitants. I do see them with the lights on, but not as often. I have my lights on at about 50% intensity (which is still more than adequate for my plants.) I think most of us have far more light than most fish are use to. If possible lowering light intensity may allow you to view your ottos more.
  8. I think I recall Cory mentioning this at some point, that there would be a schedule of aquarium events so that members could see what events are upcoming. Events such as Aqua shella, Live-bears association etc. Does anyone have a list and am I remembering correctly about what Cory said. I have never gone to an event before and would love to. I know Cory & Zenzo have an event calendar specific for members ,but I referring to world wide events.
  9. Hi everyone I have been in the hobby for a long time, and during that time I have never quarantine new fish. I know, you would think I would no better, but I always thought the meds would do more harm then good especially if I was going to breed them. I have had only two instances of a major outbreak in over 30 years. One I was able to get through with a lot of hard work and worry with only two casualties in a well stocked 125 gallon aquarium with various schools of Tetras and Corries. The second instances years later caught me off guard and cost me nearly the entire tank. Needless to say, I have changed my opinion on quarantine. Having said that and having rebuilt my dream aquarium back to its original glory and now having had it up and running for more than 5 years , I will always be quarantining any new fish. Now that I have seen the error of my ways, I want to know how long to quarantine if I use the Aquarium Co op, method of preventative treatment. I have listened to and watched the various videos, so I get the 3 med one week treatment, but after that initial week how much longer do most of you quarantine your new arrivals. I was thinking another 2 weeks after the first. I was also wondering should I start water changing out the meds with 30% weekly for the following 2 weeks, before placing the new arrivals in to my display tanks.
  10. It depends on the type of fish you’re keeping. If you are keeping Discus or Rams, then your fine. For most community fish and plants that is a bit high. Does the tank stay at 83 plus or does it drop down in the evening or early morning? If it reaches that temperature only periodically during the hot summer months, but drops down later in the day and would not worry to much. I set my community tank to 74, but during this time of the year it gets up to 80 ,but cools back down during the night and early morning. If your aquarium is constantly 83+ during the summer months and you can afford it I would add the Ac to keep the temperature a little lower, depending on the fish you keep.
  11. I have a ten gallon aquarium that I set up to maintain a back up supply of daphnia for my outdoor five gallon bucket cultures of daphnia. I added standard ramshorn snails to the tank, because I had read somewhere that they help when added to daphnia cultures. I started with a bare bottom tank and hard airline tubing with a trickle of air pump in. After some time the snail 🐌 waste started to accumulate and in attempt to reduce the frequency of water changes I switched to a sponge filter. This set up work well for both the daphnia and snails. I then decided to redo one of my Crystal shrimp tanks that was jam packed with Anubis barteri and subwassertang. I removed most of Anubis and all of the subwassertang. I now had an excess of plants and no place to put it, so I just floated in my snail/daphnia tank. My daphnia seem to decrease, but the snail population exploded. It’s hard to see the snails in the picture, but trust me the population is booming.
  12. One other thing to keep and eye on is the actual number of remaining shrimp. I just watched and old video of a round table with shrimp king and he mentioned that you want to have at least 20-30 adult shrimp to keep a good breeding colony. I would agree if it’s not water quality that it most likely not enough food.
  13. I agree with all the previous post, but you could add a few more fish to each school if you are worried about aggression. The more individuals you have the more impressive schooling behavior you will have as well.
  14. While I have no personal experience with Stiphodon gobies,I do have ember tetras, hill stream loaches and Crystal shrimp in a heavily planted 29 gallon which also includes cherry barbs. My shrimp population is growing and doing quite well.. From what little I have read about Stiphodon gobies I think it could work. I would if possible keep some of my shrimp in a separate aquarium just in cases until you see how it goes, considering the price. In fact my 29 didn’t start out with the Crystal shrimp I added some of my overflow that I had from a planted 10 gallon dedicated to just the shrimp.
  15. I have also considered pre soaking Vibra Bites, I keep various schools of small tetras in my 125 aquarium (Cardinals,Embers,Glowligts,Black neons,Three line pencil fish, etc.) My fish go right for the Vibra bites, but then spit them out and try again only to spit them out once more. I feed my fish lot’s of live and frozen foods, so I think they are use to softer foods, hence why I have considered pre soak a bit. I haven’t tried it yet, but I’m still considering it. I have also considered hold back the live foods for awhile to see if they get use to the Vibra Bites, but I really love feeding the live foods.
  16. You could put them in the larger tank (I also don’t think that it would be over stocked) or you can add more to the current aquarium ( more green neons with additional school of similar fish.) I think currently they may need more fish to make them comfortable again.
  17. Corydoras hastatus is a very nice mid water dwarf Cory. A large school of those would be cool.
  18. Thanks for the advice, the zip lock bag and damp paper sounds like it should work for my Anubis and Java Moss.
  19. Thanks for the compliment, but truth be told I really don’t do anything special I think my success is mainly not getting in the way of nature, and as Cory likes to say SST (Seasoned Tank Time). My Aquarium have been up and running for over 10 years.
  20. Hi all Has anyone had experience with selling on aqua bid? My main aquarium is a 125 gal planted community tank which is heavily planted with Anubis barteri and Java fern. I have had this tank set up for many years, which has let the Anubis & Java fern become well established. (some might say overgrown 😀) I want to slowly add more plant diversity and open space to my aquarium. Prior to COVID I would take excess plants to my local club, but currently we are not having in person meetings. Has anyone had any experience with selling on Aqua bid? In particular shipping plants like Anubis and Java fern . I have purchased live food starters from Aqua bid, but I have never sold anything. Any insight would be much appreciated.
  21. Congratulations on your successful breeding of wonderful little fish. I will have to try harder Not to Breed my fish😊 This was very well written account of your happy accident 👍
  22. @Daniel @ererer Here is my “system “ for culturing grindal worms. I got my starter culture from aqua bid. Grindal worms are not always available like white worms, but they do show up every now and then. I find them much easier to culture as they are not susceptible to heat like white worms and you only need to sub culture every 2 to 3 months. I use eco earth as my substrate ( easily available at most petco or petsmarts) ,and disposable Tupperware (which I put in the dishwasher and reuse) I use a nail to punch holes in the top. I also lay a plastic mesh on top of the eco earth and use dry cat food to feed the grindal worms. (I spray the cat food with water to soften it up). Just drop one eco earth block in 5 gallon bucket cover with water and let it sit and soak up the water. Just squeeze out the excess water and you will get a peat moss like substrate. One block will last you for a long time. I just put the excess in a large zip lock bag or large Tupperware container and keep sealed until I set up a new culture. See attached for a look at the supplies and set-up. Hope this helps
